Don't buy these. Every one of them leaks around the supplied seals. Also, the seal squeezes out when I tighten the inside nut. I was careful not to over tighten. There is no groove on the base of the valve for the seal to rest in to prevent it from being squeezed out. If you don't tighten enough to compress the seal, they leak. I bought valves like these from other companies and they perform much better. I bought these 3 June 2025. I just now got around to installing them on my honey buckets. I'm past the return date so I'm probably stuck with them. I would not recommend you buy them. ... show more

I am in my third year of bee keeping and wanted to get honey buckets for storage this year of surplus. Dismayed at the cost of buying them from my local shop or online retailer ($30+ a bucket? No thanks!). I found food safe 5 gallon buckets at home Depot and ordered these to make my own bucket. They shipped quick, I had them in a couple days. And install was easy. The gate seems to seal ok but If you try to tighten the nut enough to compress the o ring the plastic nut will skip a thread and be loose again. Had to use thread tape the take up the loose fitting nut. Should have spent more money for better quality.

These are slightly more expensive then the really cheap plastic ones but they do not leak! They are machined flat and do not leak a drop. The second wing nut makes them very easy to use and when you shut them off the honey flow stops instantly. I've bought many sets of the various other cheap plastic honey gates, they drip when closed and take forever to stop flowing.
