I needed some more direct light on my bandsaw this this does the trick. The magnet is strong enough that I can put it anywhere; even tipped 90 degrees on less-than-smooth steel. Even at full extension it's strong enough to hold it's position and the magnet doesn't release. Having said that I would love if the magnet was just a hair stronger. No problem so far but I'd like some mode confidence that it would stay. The light brightness is what I'd call enough but again if it was a little more I wouldn't be sad. Nothing about the product is excessive and that's not really a bad thing. It does exactly what I need and I'd tell anyone else looking for one to go for it.

Let me start by saying that this item is available in two varieties: one variety has a permanent screw-on base and the other has a magnetic base. If your application requires a permanent installation, I’d recommend the screw-on base - which is what I ordered. Plus, you’ll save $20. Installation is a breeze for the screw-on base. It can be mounted on a vertical surface with two screws (which you provide) or a flat horizontal surface with a single screw (which you provide). I opted for the horizontal surface. I drilled a 5/16 inch through hole in my lathe’s end cap. I used a single ¼-20 Screw with a locking washer and nut with a touch of Loctite to secure the mounting plate to my lathe. See my photo. The light base then screws on using (4) M6 socket cap screws with washers (which are provided). An 4mm Allen key is included but I prefer to use a driver. Anyway, the permanent installation took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. I like this light because it provides more than enough light for my application. I like having a switch on the light head (as opposed to on the cord or no switch). It’s quite heavy duty and I anticipate that it will last a good long time. I wished that the cord was a bit heavier duty and the instructions could be written better. PROS: - Super bright light - Long 20 inch gooseneck - On/off switch on light head - Low power consumption, only 12w - LEDs are protected with glass cover - Plastic sleeve is mounted over the gooseneck - When you bend the gooseneck to position, it stays - Available with permanent mounting or magnetic mounting - Compatible with both 120v and 240v (we use 120v in USA) - Two mounting options provided - flush mount and side mount CONS: - The power cord could be a little more heavy duty - The instructions are written in poorly translated English (which is common) - the good news is that they are mostly not necessary - In the product listing it shows a single plug that goes into a standard two prong outlet. However, the product I received has a power transformer at the plug end. Overall, I’m happy with this light. It’s easy to mount and the bulb will last longer than I will. I've been getting back into woodturning, but usually, the spaces where I can set up my lathe don't have the best lighting. While I plan to make some lighting improvements for the garage workshop, it's still useful to have a more repositionable light near the lathe, or really any other worksurfaces. I've tried various solutions, and while there are pros and cons across the board, this one is a pretty good contender. Reasonably bright lights with a decent CRI, it's not overpowering nor does it create problems when trying to apply color or finish to a project. The flexibility and on-off-switchable magnetic base are also a nice touch for my worksurfaces (either on the lathe or near various metal surfaces or metal tool cabinets) It would be nice if the magnetic base had enough mass to support the arm and the light without needing a metal surface, but it hasn't stopped me from using this light, that said, even factoring in the cost of on-off magnetic bases, $70 feels a bit on the high side for whats provided.

This LED gooseneck light is so bright. The 35 LEDS will light up your work area sufficiently. Mounting the light is easy with the 4 included screws. The 20 inch gooseneck makes it easy to position the light wherever you need it. This light will look great mounted on your lathe, drill press, desktop, and even your wife's sewing area.
