These bars look great after they’re installed, but they have more flex than any bars that I’ve used in the past. My last car was a German car with OEM cross bars that could carry anything without any concerns. I had an earlier model Ford Explorer with square aftermarket bars that didn’t look great, but could also carry my bike and kayak at the same time with no worries on my part. These are listed as able to carry a bike, but after installing my bike rack, I’m not sure how well the bars are going to work. There is more flex than I’m comfortable with – I’d hate to have my bike fly off because the bars failed. Installation is more challenging than the other bars I’ve used. There are 3 different screw types and they all have different head types, allen, torx and Phillips. Getting the brackets lined up for the screws should not have been as difficult as these were. I should have pulled out ladder to look down on the parts when doing the installation instead of using a step stool. In the past, I’ve taken the cross bars off during the winter so the automatic car wash doesn’t catch on them, but these took so long to install that I’ll have to think twice about removing them this winter.

Got these rails in and surprised at the heftiness in the mounting racks. The instructions are basic and could be a little better outlined. Definitely reference your owners manual with correct placement and spread. Can be installed by one person but if you have two it will go faster. It clamps down on the rails very well and once you screw in the bolts they do not budge at all. These rails come with strap loops which will help if using cargo bags. Interested to see how it sounds when traveling down the highway. Old setup on my other vehicle starts to whistle a little. hoping these are streamlined enough to prevent that. I do like the locking capabilities so no one can tamper with the bolts.

I was impressed by how well these crossbars handled both a storage bag and two bikes on a recent camping trip. The lockable design is a nice bonus and adds some security when parked overnight. They didn’t whistle or rattle at high speeds, which has been a problem with past racks I’ve used. The matte finish looks sleek and matches the Explorer’s trim well. Overall, very happy with this purchase.

I initially had a struggle trying to figure out how to disassemble the end covers. They arrived pre-assembled, and instructions (step one) state to "separate the pre-assembled end cover". The first actual step is to use the key to unlock the end cover and remove it. Next, use the included tools to unscrew and remove the hex bolts and screw. After this, parts three and four (P4 - the bracket that clamps onto the roof rails) will disassemble. The rest of the installation was very easy. The crossbars are a perfect fit, the quality is nice, and all the tools you need are included. Great cross bars for a cargo carrier, roof box, or canoe. Weight limit note: Keep in mind that the cross bars have a load capacity of 265 pounds, but the factory Explorer roof rails have a dynamic load capacity of 175 pounds without a Moonroof (only 75 pounds with a Moonroof).
