Have had Polaris 280 cleaners for 18 years. Two completely new cleaners, each completely rebuilt 2-3 times, plus more frequent tires and geared wheels, plus bags, sweep tails, reverse valves, and two new pressure pumps. Add it all up and average it out and it's about $15-$20 per month for mediocre pool sweeping with the nuisance of swimming around the hose and occasionally having to untangle it. This Aiper Scuba S1 actually cleans my pool better than my weekly pool service at vacuuming my pool and way, way better than the Polaris. It is important to understand its limitations, which every cleaner is likely to have. It won't do my small circular spa that is 5' in diameter at the floor, much less the bench seat. It won't do the steps very well if you have it set to the walls, and not at all if set to floor only. That said, I don't have algae issues, but it hugs the wall all the way above the water line, so I suspect it would clean up light patchy algae but not a heavy build-up. Bottom line, if lasts more than two years, it's cheaper than the all-in cost of a Polaris with superior performance. I also recommend the factory renewed if available. Mine arrived and was indistinguishable from a new unit, from the packaging to the manuals and the unit itself.

Update: Aiper did reach out and took care of this issue. They did their best to make up for the inconvenience by offering a a refund which I declined. I did get the replacement unit and accepted a partial refund. I think the costumer service was good an made up for the initial issues. I purchased a refurbished Aiper Scuba S1 pool cleaner from Amazon because it was significantly cheaper than a new one. Unfortunately, I should have been more cautious. The unit arrived and worked fine initially, cleaning the pool effectively on the first day. However, it refused to recharge afterward. I tried all the troubleshooting steps—checking connections, outlets, and even testing the charger separately—but it was clear the issue was with the robot itself, not the charger. I contacted Aiper support, and they were quick to respond, which I appreciated. At first, they suggested sending it back for repairs, but after I explained it was a recent Amazon purchase, they agreed to ship a replacement refurbished unit once they receive the faulty one. That sounded straightforward, but I'm still waiting on the return process, and in the meantime, my pool is accumulating leaves and debris. It's been very inconvenient.

I've been using this cleaner for a few weeks now after getting rid of a prior Zodiac G3. I did like that I don't have to deal with hoses any longer, however I will say that although this cleaner works, I received better cleaning with the Zodiac. My pool is 3 feet deep in the shallow end with 2 steps and 8 feet in the deep end and this cleaner has problems climbing some of the walls and wont go up the shallow steps, whereas the previous cleaner was able to get. It also isn't super consistent in which it will pickup debris in the pool when it runs over it, but there are some areas that it just doesn't reach, so in order to get a fully clean pool when it's dirty I have to run the cleaner, charge for a day, run it again a day later instead of it doing a thorough run of the entire area on the first try. If your pool doesnt get very dirty, then it may work for you, however I live in an area with lots of trees and sand and it can get quite dirty at times, particularly during storm season that this cleaner just doesn't live up to. Otherwise, it appears to work somewhat well, I like that it has the multi filter basket for the fine debris like sand as well as larger items and is easy to charge and use. The app isn't super helpful unless you need to change the cleaning method or check the battery. So I had to remove 1 star just because it may be a little less of a value for me based on the cost, but depending on your needs you may have better results. You may just need a backup cleaner as well if you need more cleaning effort.

The media could not be loaded. Report after 1 week: Robot effectively cleans the entire pool, getting the walls and floor of the pool completely debris-free. It has some trouble with the steps, but I don’t think there are any pool sweeps that can effectively handle those, so it’s not really a factor. Unit consistently parks itself on the edge of the pool for easy retrieval. The included hook works well to securely snag the carry handle, and the robot drains water quickly and efficiently, meaning it is not too heavy to lift out, as long as you drag it through the water to a place where you can get good leverage. Admittedly, I’m a healthy adult guy so it’s possible people with low core strength might have trouble. Cleaning out the filter basket is a little less straightforward than my old Dolphin. The Dolphin filters would disassemble to the point where I could use a hose to spray out the debris and fine stuff. Trying to do this with the basket style filters is a little more challenging, as the design creates a lot of splash back.

A few months ago I bought this product, and I noticed the battery wasn't lasting long enough. I mentioned it in my Amazon review without expecting anything in return; I hadn't even contacted Aiper. To my surprise, a few days later, I was contacted by Aiper customer service (Colin) who wanted to know what the problem was. He decided the best solution would be to replace the unit, and that's exactly what happened! Now everything is working perfectly. I've discovered a great product and an excellent company that supports its customers every step of the way.
