Our chicken coop is attached to a reinforced dog kennel that provides additional protection to our chickens that prefer to roost outdoors in the warmer months. Each morning we were needed to open the kennel door to allow them to free range during the day, and then each night we needed to be home to close the kennel door after they settled down for the night. So glad we found this automatic door opener that now opens automatically to let them out in the morning and automatically closes at night once they return. We programed the door to open at 7am and to close later at after dark when we know they are no longer roaming. When home we continue to check on them and find that the door always works perfectly. When away from home we now feel confident that the chickens are able to use the door daily to exit the enclosure and are safely protected at night after it closes at our preprogramed time. It is very easy to install and just as easy to program. Once programmed I still have the ability to open or close the door at any time of the day with the simple push of a button. The door on our chicken coop is sized exactly the same as this automatic door opener so if we wanted to use it on the coop it would have fit perfectly. Instead of using it on the coop we located it on fencing by simply cutting a hole slightly larger than needed and then framing the opening with pressure treated lumber. We have a beautiful rooster that is quite large that hesitated to use it at first but simply coaxing him with some food on the opposite side encouraged him to walk through the door and after that he was no longer hesitant to use it. This is a time saver for us taking care of the chickens when we are not home, and a life saver for the chickens making sure they are safely protected after dark.

The door works very well for the price. The only thing I am not happy with is that the description states that it has anti-pinch protection to keep it from closing on a chicken. I assure you that it most definitely does not. So make sure to set the closing time much later than the time the last chicken may enter the coop to keep them safe. Regardless, I am still satisfied with the door as a whole for what I paid for it. It works as intended. But they do need to remove that from the description because it is very untrue.

i've installed this on my coop door, built a small frame, and probably going to need to adjust the mount (push it out a bit from the door) as i have fencing on my door for air flow, any thing that gets in the way of the door will stop it from opening, but this is my fault not the products fault. very easy to setup times and it works just like it should!

Update: Finally was able to get this set up on the wall of the chicken pen. Installation was fine, used included hardware and followed instructions. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get the door to function properly. It was fine inside when I tested it out, but once it got out into the elements, it would not fully open on its own, regardless of how many times I tried resetting and recalibrating it. Not to mention, it was very easy to just force open, which I had to do several times when it got hung up on whatever it is that got in there. It wouldn't be very difficult for this to be forced open by a raccoon or determined canine. I don't recommend this door if you plan on using it outside where dirt can get into it. *********** I got this to attach to the wire mesh of my enclosed chicken run so that the flock can be allowed to free range in the morning automatically if I sleep in, or if I'm out late, I can ensure the pen is locked up after dark. This should also prevent my dogs from getting into the run and digging in the dirt if I just leave this open instead of the walk-in doors. I have yet to install it onto the mesh, but think I will need to reinforce the area with some wood trim to ensure it mounts securely. I don't consider that an issue with the product though, just a modification I'd choose to make given the application I intend to use it for. If this was being installed onto a wood or solid area, I don't think it would be a concern. I am a little worried about the battery compartment, as it seems like the only way to really ensure its closed is to use the security screw. Not a huge deal, but if the security screw goes missing or something, the cover tends to just fall off. I wonder about the actual weather-proofness of the cover as well, but again, if the screw makes it secure, that it should be fine. The material of the door itself seems like it will be strong enough for my purposes. The motor is relatively quiet, and I did try out the pinch test with my hand. I think it would be sufficient if there was a chicken that decided to sit in the opening. I don't think the pressure from the door would do any damage, but it is a bit delayed in popping back up, so in the few seconds that it takes to realize it needs to reopen, I could see the potential for a bird to injure themselves if they struggle to get away (thinking of like a pinched toe or something.) I don't think its a huge concern though, as the pressure from the door isn't that much and it does eventually reopen. Just something to consider, especially if you have spazzy chickens. I will post an update with pictures once I actually get it installed on my pen.

The media could not be loaded. This automatic chicken coup door works as intended. Included a video so you can see it working and the amount of noise it makes, which isn't much. I will likely set it to open at 6am, but close manually so no one is left out for the evening in the cold or for the hawks to swoop in on here in Central Ohio. Packaging was good. Just necessary amout of packaging without it being wasteful. Extra mounting screws and AA batteries included, which is a nice touch. If you need a coop door, this is worth a look.
