  • The best streaming box!
We have had Amazon Fire TV Plugs, ROKU's, and others. This time we splurged for the Apple version which was well worth the extra cost. The main chip in the device is an "A" apple chip, the number escapes me. What does that matter? Well it lets you watch TV without lag or the device over heating. Additionally the remote is rechargeable like an iPhone. The remote is a solid metal device with touch controls. It also seamlessly controls your television volume and on/off. The only regret we have is we would have purchased the 4k version because it has a gigabit Ethernet so you can hard wire to your router. Removing yet another device from an already overloaded WiFi is a good thing. ... show more

  • Great Device
Quite happy with this device. Stable, consistent WIFI connection. Great picture and sound. Remote battery lasts quite a while. Bought in July, charged for the first time in September. Remote is not as comfortable to use as Roku's remote. It is very thin and the touch area is sensitive (can be turned off or adjusted). Voice works perfectly when holding voice button down. I also found that the YouTube app was a bit weird - kind of overly sensitive to get to in-video items, i.e. "like", "subscribe". I find that I have to let the video play for a while before I am able to navigate to those items, but that's on YouTube's end. I also have yet to find a Rumble app for Apple TV. ... show more

  • Easy and top rate, fits in with my other Apple purchases.
Like most of my Apple purchases it’s just plugged in and worked. Your mileage may vary, but I don’t want something I have to replace every couple of years ( because it’s the size of a pack of gum, and it was built to last about that long) . This one will last, if it’s like my previous Apple TV, a good, five or six years, it’s up to you when you want to replace it. Set up was simple and trouble free. The remote is much improved from previous AppleTV’s, I will note it takes getting used to the fact that the touchpad is very sensitive. This can be changed via settings, the touchpad might not be for everyone’s like, and you can deactivate the entire functionality if you want. ... show more

  • Good upgrade over earlier
Compared to an earlier model two or more years older, the user interface is considerably more agile with heavy thumbnails. Some apps are much less efficient than others. So, a faster device deals with such apps noticeably better. I doubt I’ve learned and mastered all of the remote’s features the previous models smaller, plastic remote lacks. I do like the extra heft and robustness. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for a household like that of Johnny Depp & Amber Heard; the hefty metal remote can be a wicked weapon. I didn’t use voice recognition/commands enough to comment on how much improved this is or not. The volume control seemed no different. Rumors say, this model is to be retired, and new ones will succeed them. They ought to be better for gaming but I’ve never done that on any model. For the faster smoother UI for poorly written Apps (heavy thumbnails), I’d get one. I expect these will have one of the new media engine cores. Apple’s new products have different processor cores to handle different workloads better than general purpose CPU/GPUs. Another core better handles voice commands. My current year, new iPhone shows all voice command stuff is far more snappy. ... show more

  • heck yeah!
I have been using a 2nd gen apple TV since they came out. BIG improvement in performance, capability, and interface. a few things I have noticed: 1) I'm not a big "smart tv" guy, but there are some very useful apps available 2) AirPlay much more reliable 3) i always have trouble with my cable box, appleTV, tv, and sound bar HDMI interface getting... confused. Since I have started using the apple TV remote to start up and shut down my system, I have had no issues. 4) the only bad thing i have noticed is the little track pad on the remote that is integrated into the multidirectional "button". it is so sensitive that even trying to page though things, it would send the focus off to another area. With some ... much practice i guess i could get used to it, but i don't really see the purpose. It can be turned off in the settings, but there are functions, like picture in picture, that seem to require it to access them. in the end, drink deeply of the Apple kool-aide and get one, I love mine! ... show more

  • Great Improvement over Gen 3!
Yes, you got that right. Since my old AppleTV still works fine (with the exception of some apps no longer works on it) I find the new features very good. Also, streaming services like Sling, Discovery+, and others I can now watch from my AppleTV, rather than airplay them from my iPad or iPhone. My old Gen 3 is now on my other TV, where I only need it to watch movies and TV shows. One pet peeve, even though I gave it a 5-star rating, the user interface is too touchy for me. It may just be a matter of me getting used to using a lighter touch with the remote (or just using SIRI to start my apps for me!) ... show more
