The portafilter is 51mm large, and pressurized baskets work best for this unit. It can fit third-party baskets like the "HUGH Leverpresso 51mm basket". However, I would recommend against non-pressurized baskets for this machine - due to it just not performing well with them. Although the portafilter ear placement lines up with the ears on Delonghi EC680 & EC685 espresso machines, the portafilter made for those machines does not work due to the depths of the basket. Something to keep in mind if you're an upgrader when it comes to espresso machines. The machine heats up fast and pumps out with high pressure due to its unregulated (pourable vibration) pump. This style of pump is most common in this price range and does a decent job, even if it means it has much higher bar pressure strength than is recommended. (High-end machines max out at only 9 bars of pressure, while this has 20 bars. The more bars a machine hands, the more extraction the coffee goes through - Which is not a good thing because it overextracts the coffee and creates a bitter taste. Despite this, you can still create great-tasting espressos, especially if you invest in an espresso-timed scale and measure when your espresso extraction reaches the optimal point, which is a better guide than brew time. The steamer works great, although that's not saying much as every espresso machine's steamer I've tested has worked excellently. The warming plate on top is more of a gimmick and doesn't warm your mugs in time, you're better off running hot water in the espresso mug first. The drip tray's grate is all metal, even though the bin is plastic, which is so amazing at this price point. Overall, this is a great place to start. Once you dial your setup into the strengths and weaknesses of this maker, you'll be making fantastic espressos. (Finer grounds than more expensive machines, figuring out the water to grounds ratio for this unit, etc) I would not feel bad about giving this espresso machine to a friend who is less espresso-savvy.

I needed a new espresso machine--my tiny previous one had begun blowing steam out of the top as I was also frothing my milk for my morning cappuccinos, and my husband worried about my burning my hand or arm at some point. So when I saw this espresso machine was available, I ordered it even though its footprint would be larger than my previous machine had needed. But once I unboxed it, I saw that it was not unduly large: its height still fit under the built-in cabinets and easily had the required 5" above its top. It coordinates well with the other appliances, and the instructions about set-up and use were very easy to follow. Once I plugged the machine in, I found the buttons to be fairly intuitive to use anyway as I made sure to run the machine through several cycles that used almost all the water in the tank (about 10 cups). I was delighted to see one of my mugs fit tidily under the two coffee outlets since I routinely have a double when I drink my morning coffee. The steaming/frothing wand is both powerful and hot so that I can have a hot cappuccino rather than merely warm milk that cools down my hot espresso. I think this machine actually helped me make my cappuccino faster than my previous machine had -- not at all a bad thing. The foam made was decent as well, silky as described. Yes, I knew I wanted to try it out even though, given its late afternoon arrival, this cappuccino was my after-dinner drink tonight, since I didn't want to "learn" how to use the machine when I first get up in the morning. I know it'll be a breeze to use tomorrow morning (so long as I can get to sleep tonight after that double espresso in my after-dinner cappuccino). As someone who usually drinks one, maybe two, cappuccinos in the morning, one at at home and one at work, I find this machine to be great--and it definitely can make even more than one person's coffee in the morning more quickly than my former machine, which had to cool down in between. This machine would be ideal for beginning users of espresso machines, too!

Nice machine with all the features needed to make a espresso or a latte at home. 4-stars because the plastic is light-weight and does not say BPA-free anywhere on the plastic water tank or in the manual. It comes with a limited one-year warranty. It does not come with a milk frothing pitcher.

This is a nice addition for any coffee lover. There are lots of features for fun and interesting beverage making and a nice large water container. Handy to have a cup warmer up top and really like the double cup button. An everyday use around here and this Ilavie 20 Bar Espreso Machine is keeping us with our consumption needs with ease. Having this espresso maker in our house and at our fingertips has cut our fancy & expensive coffee runs to nearly zero. And now going out for that cup of expensive store bought beverage is more of a treat than an every day need which has made the whole experience more enjoyable. Overall satisfied and recommend having one of these machines in your home if you're an everyday coffee person.

For coffee drinkers I feel like this is the best gift you can get. I love this machine I use it every single day I love all the different varieties of drinks that I can make. It is super easy to use and really easy to clean. The temperature of the coffee is perfect. This is overall a great expresso machine and my favorite one I have bought so far.
