I've waited awhile since my purchase to write a review simply because I wanted to see how the product held up to extreme heat. It's perfect. I use it as an easy way to remove my sourdough bread after baking. For those who make sourdough, you'll know that the pot you bake it in must be preheated for about an hour at 500 degrees (maybe a tad less, but that's what I do). Then, you add your dough, sitting on this handy item and it bakes for about 40-45 minutes. My bread turns out perfectly with a nice crust on the bottom, but never burned. The real point in using it is to easily grab the side pieces and lift it out without burning yourself. I clean it just with a damp paper towel. I got into baking sourdough almost 2 years ago. I had seen these cool silicone bread slings on a popular sourdough account but they were sorta expensive for only 1 sling. Since I wasn't sure if I'd stick with sourdough baking, I found this product instead. More affordable and came with 2 in case you are baking 2 loaves at once. It basically replaces the parchment paper that a lot of bakers use. They absolutely work and make it really easy to lift your bread in/out of the piping hot dutch oven (still wear gloves though, the silicone gets hot!). This is a good quality silicone mat that’s very helpful when baking boules, and I’ve even done oval boules successfully with this baking mat. I did however notice that the colored edges began to flake off a little bit, so as long as I bake with the colored side down, I don’t have to worry about it flaming off into my dough.
