I moved into a new house and neither bathroom had grab bars. I’ve had them in the past and they come in handy sometimes. I prefer the smaller ones and I like the ones with the scored handles. These work perfectly.

My wife was recently released from the hospital after an almost 4-week stay. While she was there, I was able to shadow her when she did OT and PT. It was clear that a grab bar would be a must in our shower stall. Our bars are 16", which should work for many. However, 24" is often the size that some websites advise. These bars are available in that larger size too. The construction of the bars seems good. They are stainless but have little pits in the grab area, making them less slippery. All hardware is provided to mount the bars. I thought that they would have to be mounted into a stud. That is the best, but my construction expert friend told me that it was perfectly safe to use appropriate wall anchors. We had to do that in our shower, as the tiles prevented us from finding a stud, and the bar that we installed is very stable. Your mileage may vary, so make sure that you install the bars properly. There is not much more that I can say about a tube of stainless steel. They work; if you need them, you will be very glad to have them. Our bar allows my wife to safely get into the shower, offering her both safety and a measure of dignity.

We ended up not using these in the shower because they were needed elsewhere--we put them on our stairway as extra support for my husband who has back problems. The installation is fairly simple; they give you all the hardware you need. Just a warning that you should have a drill to install; you can just do it the old-fashioned way with a screwdriver if you have enough upper-arm strength. You do need a 5MM hex head tool to fasten the mounts onto the handles.
