Recently my garage door stopped working and made a loud popping noise. Well thanks to the internet I looked it up and found the common problems with my model is the plastic gears break over time, When I pulled the cover sure enough the gear was in pieces. After doing a little looking around on the internet for new gears by the maker of my opener, I was completely floored by the price they are trying to charge for one gear and nothing else. Now don't think right off that I am a cheapskate or anything but to pay almost $30.00 for one little plastic gear is pure crazy in my book, I would rather spend that money buying a new one that has all new parts and possibly a better design. Well the frugal side of me decided to take a quick look on Amazon for them and I am glad I did. I can get two gears that are the same exact quality and materials as the factory one for less than a third of the cost of what the maker was charging for one. I am always skeptical about buying the cheap part to complete a repair on something that could fall down and hurt someone or damage something. After the parts arrived I compared them to the factory one and it was the same exact materials, same size, shape and everything was identical. The parts have been in use for several months now and are no worse for wear that I can see, the gear shows absolutely no wear at all. At this point I say it is definitely a great way to replace the factory gear with an identical part for tins of money less than they try to charge you at the big box store it came from, and I have a second one in hand in case this one ever fails. Highly recommend it to anyone that needs this gear and doesn't want to pay the overpriced rate they try to shove down our throats these days.

Just exactly perfect

The install process is do-able, but wasn't fun. The part itself was perfect fit, and I even have a spare in case something goes wrong. I'm very happy with this piece, and the value. Classic Amazon life saver.

Inexpensive way to fix the garage door opener.

I followed the directions on a YouTube video. It took me a couple of hours to change the gears out. The directions were spot on. It just happen to be a very cold day, so I needed to wear gloves through most of the steps. The garage door has been running well this past month. It runs much quieter since greasing the gears. I would highly recommend these gears. Much cheaper than replacing the whole garage door opener.

Great cheap fix

This is a wonderful cheap fix if just the gear is bad. You will be able to tell when looking inside the door opener. My old one was so rounded off, all you could see once I took cover off was a bunch of white plastic dust. There are some videos on YouTube you need to watch if u don’t know what your doing. One thing I didn’t see many ppl mention was how hard it is to get the pin out to get the old one off. Luckily I had just the perfect size punch and locked it down in a vise and just hammered away. And yes u have to put same one back in. Make sure and only take bottom one out. Good luck and hope this helps. If I’d have known the difficulty I would’ve just bought the whole gear and sprocket kit so I didn’t have to mess with knocking the bottom pin out. I believe u can get whole piece for $18

Got fast delivery, installed easily & worked great!

This was the least expensive and I only needed the drive gear, not the whole rebuild kit, so it worked out well. If you loosen the chain so it can be removed from the sprocket on the drive mechanism, you can then remove the 3 screws that hold that sprocket and drive shaft in the unit. After driving pins out of the shaft that holds the drive gear, you can remove the drive gear while raising the shaft out of the top of the unit. A plastic connector also has to be removed from the very bottom of the shaft along with the small gear that it holds in place. Once shaft is removed & the drive gear is removed, merely replace with new drive gear and reassemble. This is a whole lot easier than completely tearing apart the whole unit like the instructions say with the complete rebuild kit. In the units I have repaired, the main drive gear was the only part that was bad...the rest of the unit was fine. BE SURE TO LUBE THE NEW DRIVE GEAR APPROPRIATELY....IF NOT, IT WILL ONLY LAST ABOUT 10 CYCLES!!!!

Part matched my original exactly, follow the installation instructions carefully

It's not the part that made this installation tricky, it's the complexity of working on a 20 year old machine that sits 8 feet in the air. This came with an instruction guide and the part matched my original exactly, except it had teeth where my old one had nubs. That's the key to a good parts company, the fast arrival and quality of the repair item. Took me about an hour to take apart and reassemble. I had a harder time reassembling my drive chain because I mistakenly took the tension nut off completely. Don't do that if you can avoid it. If you have done this, you really need channel locks to get that back on. Another hour to do that made this a 2 hour repair. Still better than calling service or having to needlessly buy a new one. With replacement parts available your craftsman/liftmaster should last forever.

item seemed to fit well, but when operated, worm gear is slightly off and ends up shaving the gears to the point where they eventually strip out. This was only after 3 openings/closings.
