Used this to jump start a 4.3L gm vortec after the key was left on just a few mins too long. It cranked on the battery about 1/2 turn and gave up. Using the jump pack it was able to start but it still didn't spin after stronger as others jump packs would have. It struggled a bit even tho the battery was only a little low. On the bright side, I like that this has the override button for completely discharged batteries! I'll update after I find myself in a situation that calls for this feature.

For background, I am the kind of personality that prides myself on being prepared for just about anything, especially on the road. I ordered this inflator/jump starter to add to the collection in my truck (includes jumper cables, tire inflator). I have a nice set of jumper cables, but thought one of these devices would be nice if I got into a dead-battery situation alone somewhere. To start, this kit is very well thought out and constructed. The carrying case is high quality and it includes all of the accessories you need to inflate a tire and the set of battery alligator clips. I tried out the air compressor function on my lawnmower, and it did an admiral job pumping that tire up (this will probably be the most frequent use for this device for me). The tire inflator has a few different setting categories (car, bike, sports ball, etc.), and you change units by pressing the "U" button. There are different ranges for each (i.e. the pressure setpoint on sports ball won't go high enough for a vehicle, and likewise the setpoint for vehicle won't go low enough for sports ball). I'd never used one of these battery jump starters before, and I wanted to be able to test out the battery boosting capability in order to write my review. I didn't however want to drain my truck battery for the purpose of this test (it's my only vehicle). Luckily, my great aunt had been away from her car for a few months, so her car battery was dead, which provided a trial opportunity here. I powered on the device and connected the alligator clips to the dead battery (the clips have ample spring to them and make good contact. I was surprised however that once I connected this jump starter to the dead battery, the indicator light on the jump starter never changed from the blue "standby" light. What this told me is that this jump starter is no help if you have a completely drained or dead battery. I whipped out my jumper cables and connected my truck battery to the dead car battery, and when I did this, the jump starter indicator changed from blue to green, indicating it was applying a charge to the battery. When I disconnected my jumper cables from the truck however, the indicator light went back to blue. So, the learning here is that this device should really be described as a battery boost. If you go to crank your car and the starter clicks but doesn't engage, or engages but doesn't turn fast enough, this jump starter may provide you the boost necessary to start your engine. BUT if your battery is truly dead or has failed for some reason, this jump starter will NOT be able to crank your car. Even despite these limitations, this is still something I'm going to carry in my truck. You never know when you may get into a situation where you might need it.
