Item: Scatach Store’s Mdl. 002 Lithium jumper battery 9-lier gas/7-liter diesel Price: $34.99 with vendor 50% discount on 04 21 24 PREFACE TO REVIEW… Let me start out by saying that in two of our vehicles and in one of my boats I have similar Lithium-polymer and Lithium-ion packs. The Scatach is, by the way, Lithium-polymer. Having various brands with slightly different ratings, I can say they’ve all worked well. My first impression was that this was one of the more basic jump starter units. There’s no tire air compressor included; just a starter unit. And for me, I prefer that de-centralizing of the two functions. I use large-volume 12vdc compressors that are ‘battery direct’ connected, given they draw more current. CRANKING POWER RATINGS… The Scatach model 002 evidently is available in two maximum amperage capacities; 3000-amp (Model No.X0044YZZFJ) and 4000-amp (Model No.X0044Z02V5). I’m guessing that the 4000-amp model will eventually replace the smaller capacity unit. An additional note; these jump units do not have a BOOST BUTTON on the charger-cable box. As I understand it, this feature is used when the battery is severely discharged, and the charger pack can’t recognize the battery. TESTING THE UNIT… One positive point; before trying to test this jumper kit, I put it on a smart charger block and it only took a couple minutes to go from 95% to 100%. As for testing, my work vehicle’s battery was just a bit low. And since I hadn’t driven the vehicle in two days the starter motor cranked a bit slower than normal. So I was going to see just how fast the starter would turn after connecting and waiting a half-minute. When I connected the first clamp to the battery, the Green and Red LED in the plug unit blinked. As soon as I connected the second clamp to the battery, I had a constant Green LED and went to start the vehicle. It started immediately and I could tell the starter motor was cranking faster than when the battery is low and unassisted. I was able to do three starts in a row. Not having a near-fully-discharged battery, I still have no idea if the unit would recognize, let alone bring the battery to a charged state whereby the starter could crank over the engine. (?) And by the way, that’s why I have two jump units in each vehicle. It just worked out that one is a high capacity unit and the other is like the Scatach 002 models, smaller capacity. IN SUMMARY… When I traveled through the Amazon vendor page I most definitely could see a number of options in similarly rated power packs. My initial experience with my first Scatach jump unit included an issue with the clamps. To be noted, Scatach immediately responded to my contacting them, and remedied the issue. For that I was impressed and would say that ‘vendor support’ is important and part of the value equation.

A couple of years ago, during a week-long hard freeze, I hopped in my car to run an errand and discovered my battery was dead. Geez! But no worries, previously I had picked up a multi-talented big-box-store battery charger during the previous hurricane season. Be prepared, the old Boy Scout in me thought. I made sure it was charged, hooked it up, and... nothing. The battery wouldn't charge, not because it was old and feeble, it was dead dead. Errands cancelled. It wasn't until the weather thawed several days later that a friend came by to give me a jump, after which I was the proud owner of a new car battery. So, "Be prepared!" sprung to mind when I came across this Scatach 002 4000A 12V car battery jump starter. It arrived with a 95% charge, along with jumper cables, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable (no charger), and a well-illustrated concise owner's manual, with appropriate user warnings. I have not had a need to test it, but kudos to the other reviewers who have - your diligence provides peace of mind. I decided to bring the charge to 100%, and the remaining 5% charge occurred in under 30 minutes without any heat buildup. The manual states that it takes 4-5 hours to charge the unit from low. I'm a bit surprised that this 4000A 12V is so compact and light (2 lbs). For those wondering, most small to midsize cars won't need more than 400 amps to jump start. That's likely to be enough for most compact SUVs and light trucks. Bigger vehicles will need more amperes, probably 1,000 amps. So this unit has the juice needed for an emergency. I like that this unit includes a 3-level accessory light for low-light or night utility, and it's handy that it has two USB-A type output ports (5V/3A & 5V/2.1A) for charging portable electronics. I also really appreciate the eight built-in safety precaution features. One aspect of the jumper cables that I like, is that their length is staggered so that the positive red clamp hangs lower than the negative black clamp, to help them avoid touching each other. However, my one gripe is that the cables are very short, so that in my car the jumper unit literally has to lean on the battery to make connection with the post terminals. The stiff, fabric-covered case is both attractive and functional. It's relatively compact size allows it to be included in a road emergency kit. This unit has a lithium polymer battery, which have an extremely low self-discharge rate, meaning they can retain their charge for a longer period of time. Bare in mind that ideal storage temperatures for LiPo batteries are between 35°F to 90°F. Such batteries can be discharged in a wider temperature range, typically from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C), however, performance and capacity may be affected at the extreme ends of this range. If you do keep this in your vehicle be mindful of outside temperatures. At very high temperatures, lithium batteries can be damaged, or worse. The upper temperature limit for lithium batteries varies depending on the specific chemistry and design, but typically falls within the range of 140-176°F (60-80°C). In just 20 minutes your car interior can get to 120 degrees in 90 degree heat. I live in south Texas where the summer heat reached close to 110°F last year. If the outside temperature is 110°F, one might expect a car interior to reach around 160 degrees, on average. Overall, I'm very happy with to have this jump starter battery in case of emergencies.

well I got it this afternoon. Great. When I opened the box, it was at 97% charge, so I plugged it in using the enclosed cable. After an HOUR of charging, it is still 97%.? WTF?? It was blinking like should. Will it work? I hope so. Not Happy and DO NOT RECOMMEND for a car backup, but maybe to recharge a phone, if you even can get it to recharge after First use.
