Overall I am pleased with the knife and my kiddo has been successful helping prepare some meals. This blade is sharp, and the sheath is designed to be a guide to keep little fingers safe. The blade is sharp enough out of the box after honing on a steel to cut cherry tomatoes with ease! Instead of using the sheath as a finger protector we opted to teach our kiddo the “pro” way of using a “claw” hand and a “pinch the blade hand” and then doing some hand on hand guiding to teach the “pull” slicing motion. I bought this high quality knife to use for teaching my neighbor's kids knife handling (they are 10 and 11). For their first real cooking experience, we made Filipino "Lumpia Shanghai" (spring rolls) together. During this recipe, they learned how to Julianne/mince carrots, dice onions and slice green onions. The sheath worked well to safely keep their fingers out of harms way. The knife is very durable and is really easy to clean. After the cutting was done, they mixed and measured the meats and hand rolled their spring rolls. I cooked the lumpia as they were not quite ready for cooking on a gas range (their mom's preference). They really enjoyed their experience. I feel that en-culturing the love of cooking to kids is very important. Being able to do so at a reasonable price is a no-brainer... next we will be making pizza dough and slice up toppings for personal pizza/calzone/stromboli. I didn't want to get a plastic kids' knife that couldn't cut the veggies properly, so I looked for a stainless steel one that was slightly sharper than the plastic knife.     • I never knew I’d love a knife but here we are

I LOVE this thing. My child was absolutely terrified of knives. He wouldn’t go near the kitchen when I was using a butter knife. He also has trouble with food pickiness. Got him this knife for his 7th birthday and it is no exaggeration to say it has been life changing. It is a real, sharp knife. It cuts and functions well. But the real MVP is the knife cover/finger guard. He is practicing proper hand posture for safe cutting, and he and I both feel a lot more comfortable and confident while he uses it. It’s a great size and weight for him and his 4 year old brother has also been able to practice with it.
