The 1.5-inch Bunkie Board , Split Bunkie Board provides a surface foundation for any platform beds, bunks and daybeds. It adds support to the mattress and will keep mattress stay in good shape thus extending the life of your mattress. It will give a firm bottom support for the mattress and raises the mattress up for about 1.5 inches. When a mattress is placed directly on slats or metal spring, the mattress will have the tendency to rip or sink. These can be avoided with the use of a Bunkie board. Using a Bunkie board doubles the mattress' life expectancy. This Bunkie board is a good alternative in lieu of a box spring that may be too high for day beds. This is a review for the foldable king-size version. No one else has reviewed this yet. The description says it's solid wood and doesn't have a picture showing the inner construction. These are not solid wood! Each quarter is a wooden frame with just two slats in it, with cloth surrounding the frame. That means the slats are about 10 inches apart and the cloth suspended from the wood slats does a good deal of the bed support. The outer frames themselves are nice, solid boards though. My mattress manufacturer says my memory foam mattress can rest on boards 10 inches apart — this is assuming bare slats without additional support — so this product works for me. But the split king that doesn't fold could have worked as well since I found out after ordering that a solid surface, like a bare floor, is not recommended. The way that it's constructed into four quarters makes for more rigid boards in the middle though, providing perhaps better support. ... show more

    • Here's the whole truth!
This bunkie board came in one piece, not two. It fit perfectly under a regular twin mattress (not XL). I had asked the question how many slats are in this board and got the answer of 9. No. There are 7 slats. This is not a solid board like plywood and it's not meant to be. Bought this to replace a 15 year old existing bunkie board and got exactly what we had. It does give extra support but not so much you're going to notice it that much. What it will do is extend the life of your mattress double or even triple the time than without one. We have a platform frame and the top/bottom of the mattress would bend down and get stuck that way. It was ruining our mattress and making me sleep funny (head always tilting down). This has fixed all of.our issues and I've been sleeping like a baby. Only raised the bed a coue inches. Well worth it!
