  • Best value for the money. Seen others and they can't compare!!
Simple, easy to assemble and a dependable tool to keep the pool clean without a lot of personal attention. Just connect the hoses to the pump inlet scupper and let it do the work. I have been using these since 1983 and they last about 10 to 12 years each.

  • Great product. Bought it first in 2006, re-buying in June 2017.
This has been a great product. I bought the first Ranger in 2006 and am replacing it with a 2nd Ranger June 2017. The only reason I'm replacing my original is the hose sections have become frail from the sun and chlorine. The vacuum head itself, while tattered and banged up, still functions, so I'll keep it as a backup. I've had to modify the head some over the years as the yellow weights, which hold the unit under water, sometimes come loose. I believe the chlorine cause the plastic pieces that hold the weights in place to become loose. I've used JB weld to keep them in place and usually have to reapply yearly. Overall, though the ranger works well. I have a 24' round pool and it cleans the floor and walls of the pool. Proper adjustment is needed to get the vac to cover all areas of the pool, but once that is done, it works great. Also, by using this vac or any other, the water temp is more consistent as it pulls the cooler water off of the bottom and recycles it back onto the top. ... show more

  • Great vacuum for Intex pool
I purchased this to use with an 18' Intex Easy Set vinyl pool. I no longer use the Intex factory pump and filter, but rather a sand filter and pump from Hayward, so I cannot guarantee it would work with an Intex pump. I purchased the Baracuda Ranger because my pool is near trees, and ends up with too much dirt and debris on the pool floor, most of which is too small to be removed with a leaf net. The Ranger is very easy to assemble, setup and connect. Assembly takes only a few minutes. The hose is made up of many sections of hose that connect together to give you the precise length necessary for your pool vs. having one long hose that needs to be cut to length. It does a great job of keeping dirt and debris off the bottom of my pool, and even climbs the sides to clean them. I often let it run all night, and since I usually run my pump and filter 24/7, this is not an issue for me. It takes me about 5-10 minutes to get the Ranger in the water, flood the system, and get it started. From there, I can pretty much walk away from it and come back to find the pool floor clean. Suction is powerful enough to clean my pool floor, which is not completely smooth. The Ranger picks up dirt and some leaves, although it sometimes misses leaves because the pulsating action of the Ranger pushes them away as it approaches them. I just use a leaf net to get any large leaves off the bottom before running the Ranger. I'm very pleased with the Ranger, and would recommend it to others. ... show more

  • Great cleaner!
Very happy with my purchase! I have a large in-ground pool, 15x 40, and my friend's pool guy recommended this one. I thought, "I doubt that this will work well on a diamondbrite regular pool since it says for above ground" but he said "trust me" and I'm glad I did. I saved a ton of money and it works great. Yes, you have to adjust the hoses properly to get full coverage, but that is the same with any cleaner. I also had to add weights to my hose so it would go under the hose attached to my in-wall dedicated cleaning port, but that is not the cleaner's fault. My port is about a foot under the surface which creates an obstacle for the cleaner hose to bypass, but with fiddling around with the weights, I figured it out. It also got caught in one corner by the steps, but another minor adjustment and it does not do that anymore. I get full coverage too. Make sure you have enough hose, but not too much length, and make adjustments to the system to get full coverage. Anyone complaining about the above issues most likely does not know how to make these MANDATORY adjustments, or they have a pool design that won't work with any of these types of cleaners. ... show more

  • Save your Money
I never review products much but felt I needed to on this. We just installed a 28' Doughboy, I was very excited to try this automatic pool cleaner. My complaints are as follows: After many hours of being in the pool it missed several spots, it goes over and over the same spots continuously and also the vacuum gets stuck around the skimmer area where it's plugged in due to getting tangled around the hose. I did end up getting in the pool with it and guiding it to the areas that it missed which wasn't too bad but considering it's an automatic I shouldn't even have to do that much. I will say it is quiet and aside from the items I pointed out it did a pretty good job. It also does climb the walls. I've only used it twice so we'll so how it goes from here. I read several people say it stopped working for them after a few hours and mine did the same but I just turned my pump off and restarted it all and it took off again. Something I did learn, I have two returns and both are pointed to make the water go in a circular motion toward the skimmer, I pointed my one return toward the center which did seem to help the vacuum from going in the same direction which was just around the edge of the pool. I think the circular flow was causing it to go around and around versus hitting the center of the pool as well. ****UPDATE*** Going on 4 summers with the Zodiac Ranger I've bit the bullet and bought a robot cleaner after borrowing a co-workers. I can't say I would recommend the Zodiac at this point. It loses suction constant. We thought it was due to our sand needing changed. Changed the sand, no different results. Then thought maybe our pool pump wasn't strong enough due to it's age, bought a new pump, still no different results. Plus it always missed the center, got stuck on my ladder and went in the same pattern. A robot cleaner is a lot more expensive but I PROMISE you, after using one you wouldn't think twice about this junk. No more hoses, no more leaving your pump running to vacuum, no more constant watching to see if it's still jumping. Plug the robot into your electrical outlet, drop it in the pool, walk away and come back in 2 hours the cleanest your pool has ever been. The only upside I liked about the Zodiac is it did a great job in cleaning and climbing the walls so I'll keep it for the occasional need for that. ... show more
