I have spent a lot of time and money searching for a good CF PLA filament. I just wish I could have started out with this product, as my search could have begun and ended with the first order. This filament prints very clean and smooth, no zits or blobs, no stringing, even with complicated parts. Consistency of part quality is dead even across all 4 of my printers. The resulting parts are very strong, and with 100% infill, astoundingly strong for PLA. Dimensional stability is very good. The adhesion to my glass beds is excellent, but once cool, parts are very easy to remove from the build surface. I like the clear spools, you can actually accurately gauge how much filament you have at a glance. I especially appreciate the zip-lock bags and dessicant packets provided for storage of partially used spools, as I live in a very humid climate. This filament costs a little more than other brands, but IMHO it is worth every penny. I use it at 220 degrees, 60 degree bed, .4mm hardened steel nozzle, .15 mm layers. So far I have run 3 spools through my machines without a single clog, so I am puzzled at some of the other reviewers comments re. clogging. Sometimes I even go down to .08mm layers for small detailed parts, with no problems whatsoever. If it were possible to give this product 7 stars I would do so. 2-17-19 Update; I have now ordered/used a total of 12 spools of this excellent quality material. I use it for everything I print now, because nothing else I have found provides the strength and smooth finish it provides. The CF content adds a subtle sparkle to the printed parts and the yield strength far surpasses any other PLA material I have audited. I simply cannot over-emphasize what a great value this filament represents. I recently ordered a spool of bronze color filament from ZIRO and will be posting a review of it as soon as I try it out.

More impressed than I expected

I've been printing with PLA, ABS and PETG for years now. I've tried TPU, glow in the dark and other more exotics also. This was my first attempt with a CF filament so I cannot compare cross brand. What I can say is that it is impressively stiff once printed. I was attempting to dial in my settings and printed a temp tower with a bridge. Pulling it off the build plate I was a little startled that the thin bridging lines between the columns. Most other filaments have a little bit of give but this was really rigid with only a little bit of filament. It's also great a blending in layer lines a bit with its surface finish being less glossy. Things I found are - 1) be careful trying to print too fine with this. As with all filaments that contain other things trying to go too fine will lead to clogs. Consider a bigger nozzle if you can to add more confidence. 2) Do some retraction (and other) calibration first. I found it a little stringy so tuned my retraction a little higher. Too much heat will make this sag a little more than other filaments I've used. 3) As mentioned it's super stiff. Great for solid parts but not sure about things where you need to snap fit around something and it needs lots of give. Overall very happy. I printed an entire violin out of this stuff and it worked. Update: Ordering more. The surface finish is wonderful at blending layer lines. It is a little quicker to absorb moisture than other PLAs I've used which you can tell by the popping and slight increased stringy-ness. If you have a lot of retractions in your print and it's been sitting out for a while, you might want to make sure you dehydrate it first.

Decent filament

This filament looks very attractive. I love how it looks when printed. It looks like a shimmery grey/gray, definitely not the grey/gray from the carbon fiber weave most are used to or the off gold color you'd see in a weave. This filament has its uses, however, do not make the mistake I made and buy it for strength. It actually comes out to be weaker than plan old PLA. I have noticed that it seems way more rigid however. Layers do not seem to bond as well as plain PLA either, so beware if printing bending parts. I had no issues using with the Ender 3 v2. I first printed with the stock nozzle about 100grams before i read about it being abrasive. So I ordered a set of hardened nozzles, i print at 220 and bed at 60, I haven't hade adhesion issues unless printing very tiny models.

Great filament that prints very well with minimal effort

I bought this to print the lighter-duty components on the printer I am designing and building (using CF polycarbonate for parts that see heat or need more rigidity) and it has been great to deal with. I dialed in my extrusion step rate printing a 4 sided box with wall thickness matching my nozzle diameter, and figured out temp with a 4 layer temp tower. From that point forth, it has printed as close to flawless as I have ever seen. I actually ran over half the spool through a brass nozzle, as I forgot to swap it to hardened steel. I swapped nozzles, bumped up the temp 5 degrees and finished that spool and another without issue. As for durability/strength, it seems on par or better than other good quality PLA. Maybe a bit lighter too, but I haven’t done any testing to really know. I will say it has performed well for me. I used a full spool in the construction of my new printer, a 300x300x300 print volume Cartesian built from aluminum extrusion and printed brackets/joining plates. It’s a very rugged printer, using five 12mm linear rails; 2 on Y, 2 on Z and a single rail on the X axis. Frame is mostly 40x40 and 20x40 with a 40x80 C-channel side to side in the center for the uprights to mount to and 20x80 front to back in the center to mount the Hiwin rails for the bed. haven’t had an issue in just over 200 hours of print time. I assure you, if this seemed sub-par in the least, every piece printed with it would come off my printer without a second thought. I have far too much time and money wrapped up in this printer to deal with pieces not working correctly. And unless something changes, the parts made from this CF PLA are here to stay.

Good filament, different and better than expected

Great filament, different than I expected. Filament color appears dark charcoal color, almost black on the spool, but when stringing it through a 0.4mm hardened nozzle and holding it up into the sunlight, it actually appears to be a clear filament with carbon strands in it, so it prints like a dark charcoal, not black. The material itself doesn’t have a description aside from 3D Filament Carbon Fiber, and although the Amazon description says PLA and it prints within PLA temp ranges, the end item acts different as it isn’t as brittle as other PLA’s I’ve used. The layer adhesion was really good, far better than expected. Single layer wall did separate at the layer line, but it took some bending and pulling. 4 layer base didn’t separate or rip. It took a bit of effort to bend it and although I was able to bend it, it wound up folding without breaking... showing great layer adhesion, but also an interesting flexing. I believe when printing an actual piece, it will be very stiff and durable, so don’t consider this filament flexible, but rather more “impact resistant” than other PLA’s which are typically more brittle (by my personal experience). This test piece was a small piece, 20mm diameter x 5mm high ring/cup with a solid bottom... 4 layer base, single wall for the remaining print, no top. I’ll update this review if I find anything I don’t like about the filament when I print in larger scale of production pieces... but just based off of this initial small torture test piece, I’m impressed! Really good if you only do short prints

I should have listened to the negative reviews. Don't buy this stuff if you are just running a normal extruder. I have an ender 5 pro with that stock red metal extruder and the stock stepper motor. The problem is that it doesn't clog/jam the hot end, but the stepper motor itself doesn't seem to have enough force to push the actual filament through the hot end and onto the print bed. When I hear the extruder start to pop and skip, if I help it by providing some extra force by pushing the filament towards the extruder gear, with the additional force it is actually able to grip onto the filament and feed it through the hot end. For me, this issue starts at about 3 to 4 hours of printing. I would only recommend buying this stuff if it sells for 12-15$ since you'll probably waste at least 300 grams of it trying to make it print properly. On the few smaller prints I did, I would say this is the best filament I have ever used, but every other longer print I tried has just failed so far. The manufacturer should test this filament on several different budget printers and provide more detail on how to actually use it, since the temp, nozzle, and print speed tips aren't helpful enough to result in consistent good prints.

Finally got it!...be patient with this stuff.

I'm glad I waited to write a review until after I discovered the proper set-up/configuration for this filament and my printer! Took me 3 tries and voila! First print looked good but terrible lamination (.6mm nozzle at 230 degrees & 20% speed), second print had good lamination but clogged the nozzle, which is an ongoing complaint from many reviews (.6mm nozzle at 260 degrees & 20% speed), third time I decided to make a switch to a larger nozzle and saw immediate great results! I went with .8mm nozzle at 240 degrees & 50% speed. I'm running a CR-10 Mini, by the way. This material is very strong and has a nice appearance, little glittery specks from the Carbon-Fiber and a slight sheen. I'm guessing I can run a little cooler, like 230, and that may decrease the sheen a bit (as noticed on earlier prints). I will be purchasing more of this! In Summary: My CR-10Mini runs this filament very well with .8mm nozzle 240 degrees at hot-end and 50% speed.

Absolute Game Changer

Before you order this filament make sure you have either a plated nozzle or an A2 hardened nozzle!!!! Do small test prints to dial it in, exotic filaments require exotic settings sometimes. This is now my default filament if I use PLA. Firstly, the dimensional accuracy is outstanding once you have your printer calibrated correctly. I print at 210°C and 50 mm/s with no troubles at all. Also, ive had no issues painting on it with Testors hobny paints. Secondly, the rigidity is unmatched compared to standard PLA filament. I've printed everything from guitar picks that have amazing attack and little to no deformation from the strings, a shock tower for my RC car that holds up to the bashing, at the moment I'm printing a robot with a grabber arm and tank treads and havent had any issues. Lastly, I'm confident enough to leave it going overnight and not wake up in a cold sweat wondering if the print has failed. As I stated above this is now my default everyday filament.
