We purchased this cargo carrier for a 1500 mile round trip. We made sure it was strapped down tightly and used the non-slip mat. We did not have any trouble with it moving or making noise during the trip. There were no tears or rips in any part of it. We drove through very heavy storms on both legs of our trip. There was some water in the carrier. It was probably not enough to have soaked through the suitcases to get our clothes wet. I read a recommendation in another review to cover suitcases just with a large trash bag as an extra precaution. I did this and our suitcases did not get any water on them.

This worked really well for me for a cross country move. We loaded it up and left it on the roof at hotels. It was stable and secure and needed no adjustment after the first tightening. It was not waterproof but everything is in good shape because we bagged it (per the instructions). We also basically drove through a monsoon so it’s probably not that bad in normal weather. It gets 4 stars because of that and because the zipper is low quality and a pain. I would have happily paid another $5 for a heavy zipper. That said, the zipper did hold and still works.

Used on: 2017 Subaru Forester w/ roof rack + cross bars. Strapped to cross bars after laying out the provided rubber mat underneath. Packed about every cubic foot of space and it was easy to zip closed. Travelled 1900 miles in 10 days, stopping to unload the car topper bag every 2-3 days to camp along the way. Straps stayed pretty tight between stops, but as with all car toppers it's important to not travel far after packing it to retighten it because items shift around a bit. Overall VERY satisfied with it!! The velcro closures could be a little more sturdy. That's my only pseudo complaint. For the sale price of $99, I have little room to complain about perfection with how fantastic it performed in every other way. No tears or zipper issues along the way, and the zippers can be locked with a luggage or larger lock due to how wide the holes are. Easy to clean from bugs when I got home too. Storage bag to hold topper is alright, could be slightly more sturdy.

This bag has tons of room and was easy to fit on the roof of the car. The non slip mat worked perfectly. We drove 1450 miles and never had an issue. There was a bit of tearing near the zipper but overall it was perfect for our needs. The small bag it came with makes storage easy, took a bit to figure out the code for the lock since it didn't come with a code. For the price this was well worth the money.

Out of the box, packed it full and took this shell on a 500-mile road trip in Colorado. We experienced lots on sunlight at higher elevation and plenty of wind and intense rain over the course of several days. The shell held up really well in those conditions, as well as 70+ mph speeds on the interstate. No signs of wear or tear. With that said, the door hooks under the weather stripping of doors sometimes led to wind noise inside the car. Also, the front- and rear-facing straps on the shell could stand to be a bit longer. Overall, very happy with the purchase (after one trip).

Buy this one. I drove 1,600 miles through high winds, rain and ice. This cargo bag didn’t move an inch. All my belongings are dry. The bag never made a sound during the trip. I used both the straps and clips. Easy to install and pack. The orange layer protects the large zipper and the velcro further protects the zipper and contents inside the bag. I almost bought one that cost twice as much but I’m glad I bought this one. Quality materials. Well built!

It tore on the first trip on the underside from being on the ground. Hopefully duct tape will fix it. The instructions also weren’t super clear and ended up having to flip the whole thing with everything inside. I live in the desert so idk about water resistance

Best thing I could have brought for a road trip. Easy to install, held 5 sleeping bags plus 5 duffle bags, all items stayed dry, and nothing happen to it. It held up to our 1200 mile road trip to CO and back to WI. Would recommend!
