I specifically bought this vice because it said it was made in the USA. I was very disappointed when it arrived to see "Made in Tawain" in bold letters. I would rather do business with Tawain than China. I am keeping it as I gave it to my sone for Christmas and he specifically wanted one made in the USA. Too big to return. It is sturdy. But the description was deceiving and when I went back to look at it there was no mention of USA. You have to watch the wording on vices. Most say subject change in origin. Amazon, please clean that up. You really should have a made in USA section for purchases. It is basically impossible to find a reasonably priced vice made in the USA, if at all. It seems to me there is a niche there for someone.

After purchasing and receiving this vise, I can confirm that the newer versions are not made in the USA. They are made in Taiwan. Granted, it's still a nicely made vise and will definitely hold up as it's built like a tank. Alas, I wanted a USA made vise and hoped I would have received an older stock one, but did not, so I ended up returning it.

This vise is well machined, heavy, and I trust made out of nodular iron. The screw has little backlash for a vise of this type and is smooth. This vise is made in Taiwan. Watch for it on sale.

I bought this vise at the same time as a 6" of another brand on lightning deal (also ductile iron). The fit and finish of this vise is far superior to the other I purchased. Much less slop and backlash in the clamping jaw, smoother operation of the handle...floating/replaceable pipe jaws...overall a more quality offering.

Bought one of these 4 months ago, well pleased. Had purchased cheaper brand (made in China) a few years ago and the swivel base broke, tried several avenues and couldn't get a replacement part, don't think it would have held up in any case. My advise is, if you need a vise, bite the bullet and purchase a quality product, you get what you pay for. Also bought the 5.5" instead of the 4.5" model, originally thought it was a bit too large, it's not. In my case bigger has proven to be better.

Had this vise for a few years now. Absolutely great quality and a very satisfying purchase. Still running smooth as the day I got it. As you can see stamped "USA." Anyone claiming otherwise either got scammed by a poor seller or lied.

very solid product. the lack of rotation makes it slightly less versatile than some other vices, but the simpler design makes it much stronger. I tend to abuse mine, the vice and a mini sledge let me shape (cold work) 3/16" steel, didn't need to soften anything with heat.
