The fixed jaw features a V-shaped groove to hold round objects either vertically or horizontally while the removable handles help users easily install the vise into tight spaces. With five 1/2-inch mounting brackets positioned around the outside edge of the vise’s base, the WEN Cross Vise is compatible with the majority of drill press tables on the market. • I think it is a nice vise
Style: 3-Inch Cross Vise
I have a 15” Ryobi drill press which offers enough travel for this vise to work well. I’m not a machinist or vise expert. So this review comes from a novice. That said, it appears to be well made. It came mostly assembled apart from the vise handles. The vise does in fact allow for two axis of travel (X and Y) as well as allowing for the vise jaw to open and close. There are no brake levers on the X-Y travel but there are what appears to be set screws that functions as a brake to keep the vise from moving in X-Y. There are 2 such set screws for X and 2 screws for Y. When tightened, those screws prevent unintended movement. But if you force the handles on the vise to move X or Y, it will move a little. If the vise jaw handle is on the wrong side when this vise arrives, you can remove the top piece and reinstall it in the other direction. It is a dovetail vise. No wobble with the shim in place and it came with a shim. Very nice for the money. ... show more

  • Excellent Cross Vise!
Style: 4-Inch Cross Vise
This is my second Cross Vise. The first one was a no-name brand which was mechanically sloppy in all three dimensions, so I sold it cheap at a garage sale. This new one from WEN was a little expensive, but it is solid and smooth in all three dimensional directions. The handles for rotation are much more comfortable to use with really good accuracy in very small adjustments. Really happy with THIS Cross Vise, worth the money! ... show more

  • Does what it’s supposed to
Style: 4-Inch Cross Vise
Works like it should. It will need some cleaning because it came greasy but thats how anything like that comes so it doesn’t rust. It moves a lot stiffer than professional machining tools but thats to be expected. Overall Im very happy.

  • Works Great
Style: 4-Inch Cross Vise
Had to make some adjustments to the slides and some lubrication at first but after that it works great. Exactly what I needed for my milling head machine. Thanks

  • Received vise-now time to “Americanize” her.
Style: 4-Inch Cross Vise
Received and unpacked my Wen 4.25 inch combination vise with goal of securing to my 1hp 85 year old Delta DP600 17 inch drill press. Good packing and all parts present. Followed instructions throughly cleaned then came the fun part, inspection. Good heavy casting and the all slide surfaces machined well. Next step was the adjusting handles, oversized mounting bores to install on the worm shafts that took brass shim stock to take up the slop and 8mm acorn nuts with blue lock tight (so the threaded shaft ends that extend past the handle lock nut doesn’t tear up your knuckle when rotating. Next, replace the 4 Allan head rail tension screws without locking nuts for taking up slack during adjustment. Lastly, use shim stock to take up the wobble in the loose drive “nut” for the drive shaft-now you have a combo drilling/milling vise that is tighter and far smoother. Made in China, American tuned that is much improved and worth every dollar and more-now a darn good vise. ... show more

  • Priced to Sell, About Half the Price of Others With Same Construction
Style: 4-Inch Cross Vise
Here is what is good. It's a better design with a better fit and finish than most of the ones for sale in this price range. To be exact, you can find some identical to this one for twice the price. It's fairly sold and carriage moves pretty smoothly. I didn't completely dissemble it to improve the movement. I simply added some tacky grease to the slides. For the price (about $75), it is okay. And it fits nicely on a Craftsman 10" drill press from the early 2000s. I secured it with four 1/2" carriage bolts and one 7/16" carriage bolt in the back. No modification to the Craftsman drill press was required. And there is plenty of room to use it on the drill press. Here is what is not so good. The handle have sharp pointed ends. There may be a reason for these, but they kept sticking my hands through me gloves. They are quite sharp. I ended up grinding the sharp ends round on a table grinding and then buffing them smooth. It's much more comfortable to work with now. Next, there is a considerable amount of slop in the controls. And there's no way to improve this. I was able to tighten the slides, but the slop remains when changing direction. Overall, I'm giving this 4 out of 5 stars due to the slop in the controls which doesn't appear to be necessary with this level of fit and finish. ... show more

  • Not the best in the world but...
Style: 4-Inch Cross Vise
I bought the WEN drillpress and works flawlessly! So I figured why not buy the WEN 4" crossslide vise. CONS: It took a little sanding and lube to get it to work rightish. I had issues with backlash so I tightened the set screws down some vibrated out. Two broke in half I probably over torqued them. Over the weekend I needed to shape some 1/4 inch metal and broke the guide🤦♂️in 2 pieces. If you plan on using this as a cheap man's milling table/vise it will need more work to it than it comes. Doesn't handle vibration well out of the box. It also probably doesn't help when a money that doesn't know anything gets to play with tools (myself😅). Pros: It'll need a little work out of the box either way but, for small projects where your accuracy doesn't need to be 100% precise it's a great option to start out with. Good for wood and plastics. Not bad for drilling as long as it's not abused😅. Note: Hobbies aren't fun unless you spend money and break stuff in your shop and figure out how make it better. Don't tell the Wife 😬. ... show more
