Did my research and this is the best bang for buck in a DIY vise for your garage or workshop. Came packed fully encased in styro in a robust undamaged box. Finish and operation are flawless. Has a nice looking greyish bluish powder coat finish that is very industrial looking. All advertised specs were right on except for the crossbar length. It is 9.5" instead of the stated 10.5". Jaws line up perfectly, and the open/close action is smooth on the greased screw spindle. Mounting mine on 1/4" steel plate over 1" plywood work bench surface with some 1/4" flat bar underneath the front bolts. Can't fit another full plate underneath due to bench design. This ductile iron vise should last me a lifetime. Very pleased. ... show more

Admittedly I don't often write reviews but I feel a bit guilty as I do use reviews to guide my purchases oftentimes. Vises can be very pricey... granted you should theoretically be purchasing once-in-a-lifetime even passing them on to family, getting all value for your money but sinking that money up front is often hard to do. That being said... this vise seems very well made and appears it's going to last. I intentionally went with a vise that didn't rotate or is "double" sided with two jaws top and bottom. If you place a long or heavy objects in those types of Vises and produce heavy torque on the workpiece they'll move on you, I don't care what they advertise. This vise still has a tube or cylinder jaw and a fairly deep throat which is harder to find. It has nice wide jaws width wise as well as the nice 5.5" range of opening the jaws up. There are two additional indentations for holding circular objects in the main jaws (see photos) the clamp for hold the rotation of the vise itself seems sufficient.... we'll see as time goes on. I think this was a good buy. The vise arrived well packaged and in a box with a molded foam container protecting it well. You may think an object like this might not need protection but you'd be surprised. Hard objects do crack! ... show more

My old 3.5 in. Vice literally cracked in half. My new Foward 4.5 in. Vice is a little bigger, and can spin around 90 degrees both ways. I shopped around and for the price, and features, I chose this vice. I am very pleased, I hope to be happy for a long time. Thank you
