- Why choose this yarn swifter - metal parts are thicker and sturdier than wood yarn winder. Dimensions: 21" x 19" x 17". The storage case is 17.5" x 2" x 2" (prevents it damaging in transit and keeps it clean).
- What's the advantage - can be set up either horizontally or vertically! Better shaped, much lighter than the Wood Swift. Can be kept mounted on a table easily.
- The table clamp or clip is 1.75" (use it on a table thinner than 1.75"/4.5cm), which holds the swift in place and spins smoothly as you wind skeins. The clamp doesn't love rounded edged table. It stays put fine, but not quite as strongly anchored as on an angular-edged table. Note the clamp will leave marks on a wood table. Cover with something protective.
- The metal construction means this knitting yarn swift folds up more compact than the wood. It's very light and easy to work with. The end is designed so you can put the swift at any angle you want. Once you figure out how to use the clamp it's easy to set up either horizontally or vertically. The size is easy to adjust and it runs smoothly. If you have limited table space, you can use this hanging off the table, without it getting in the way.
- The yarn swift tabletop is a workhorse. We have used the yarn swifts with different yarn weights from lace to Aran, and wound scads of skeins of everything from crochet cotton size 10 to a heavy worsted, and it's worked for all. It can rock a little when using the top handle, but nothing to make you discard it. You can use it to unravel sweaters from thrift shops to reuse the yarn (cashmere, wool, alpaca). We unravel the sweater directly to the swift, creating 60" hanks.

I had one of these umbrella swifters but it broke in much the same way that an umbrella does. So, I switched to the only other model I could find which is wood that sits on a table top. It slipped all the time. So, I was left with no choice but to go back to this. It has 2 main problems. There are a lot of metal wire loops that catch the yarn. The mechanism for securing it to a table is complicated and not all that secure. It is time for someone to invent something better for fiber artists.

I tried the yarn swift today. I needed to cake 3 hanks of yarn. In the past I used the back of chair and struggled; taking me forever and not getting good results. I was able to quickly figure out the setup and attachment to table. The yarn at first got caught on lower eyelets but when I held it out straight while winding yarn it worked perfectly. I was done with the 3 cakes in no time. Why oh why did I wait so long. This swift seems very study and serves it’s purpose well. Shipping was fast and packaging was sturdy.

Easy to load. The yarn does get caught up in the tips occasionally, that is my reason for 4 stars. I will be winding a ball of yarn and the swift stops abruptly. It is easy to undo and get going again. I found if you have the swift level with your winder , it helps. I only need to wind yarn from hanks once in awhile so I am ok with this product.

It is a nice swift if you are on a budget. The yarn tends to get caught in the hooks making it frustrating to use if you are not careful.

If you knit much, you eventually will want a swift. You don't need one - you can always loop the yarn over the back of a chair and ball it that way, but you will want one. Eventually I succumbed, putting this on my wish list. After I got it, I received 18 hanks of yarn for a project. It was fun to watch the balling process with the swift spinning madly. This works. It sets up easy. It folds easily and stores back in its semi-rigid plastic square tube with no trouble. It is easy to get your yarn positioned on it. It will save you a lot of time at the beginning of a project.

I have always wanted one since started buying hand dyed yarns. They are braided and you have to wind into a ball. I got the winder but the yarn kept knotting. Since getting this, so much easier with winding up yarn. So glad I got it.

This foldable yarn swift exceeded my expectations. It took me about 3 min to wind a skein of Cascade 220 into a cake. You can’t beat the price and it folds nicely to store until the next use.
