  • Quirky
It does work just fine for light use. My PC doesn't have a disk drive but it's nice to have on hand in case I want to use some old media. I've not burned any DVDs so I can't speak to that. I did find that it has troubles reading a disc unless you close the drawer just right. Kind of annoying but an issue easily worked around. However there were a few occasions when I first used it where I had to unplug it and use a pin to manually open the disk drive. Its been working better recently, so maybe shipping bounced it around. The cord it comes with is very short. Probably not as much of an issue if I were using it on a laptop. ... show more

  • Works well.
Easily usable, worth the money. It works well for dumping and emulating PS3 games, which is what I mainly wanted to do with it. It works good for watching movies as well, I watched turbo on it and it was nice 🙂 good product!! The manual explains everything well and is easy to understand, so I had no issue figuring out how to use the product. ... show more

  • Don't blame the player, blame the OS
Windows 10/11 has no native ability to play Blu-Ray discs, and the 3rd party software options are either more expensive than a standalone blu-ray player, or else difficult to setup (read: VLC), so understand that getting this drive is only part of the total solution. If you are tech-savvy and know how to view hidden folders, then VLC (aka VideoLAN) is an absolutely free option that does work... with some effort. Otherwise, consider paying for reputable software such as Leawo, CyberLink PowerDVD, etc. For those brave enough to continue with VLC, download the full version from the official website, NOT the app store, and install it - make sure to select "discs" as one of the media sources. Next, download and extract the keydb.cfg file from fvonline-db.bplaced.net to a new folder, C:\ProgramData\aacs\ Next, download the libaacs.dll file from vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name (I know it sounds dodgy, and I don't blame you for feeling trepidation, but it is legit) and move it to the folder C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\ At this point you should be able to watch a Blu-Ray disc, but will get a warning that the menus on the disc can't be displayed without Java. If you want the menus then you will need to install Java with all the security implications that entails, as well as start VLC with a batch file and even though I'm old enough that my first computer came with DOS 4.01 installed as its O/S, I ain't gonna explain how to make a batch file in an Amazon review. Personally, I can live without the menus since I'm only want this drive to watch movies when I'm traveling and the "free WiFi" is so slow that mostly-text websites timeout before loading, so streaming is completely out of the question. ... show more

  • Do Not Buy It Scratches Brand New BlueRay Movies up
I have a tall HP Envy 8 so my USB ports are located in the middle of the back. Who ever thought that a 6in cord for this to hook up to a PC must have been either misinformed or has never owned a tall PC tower cause it barely has enough cord I have had to move my tower sideways to use this an I can not place it on top of it so it sits on the floor right up against the tower this would be a great player if it had a longer cord but I believe it is only for a laptop or a very short PC tower. Also I have CyberLink Power DVD 20 an 22 which can play Blue Ray disks but for some reason your player will only play certain disks I have the Alien Anthology an the player locks up on every one of the disks for no reason these disks don't have any scratches so I can't figure out why the player does this on these an some of my other disks unless I got a defective player. Until I can get a replacement or refund I will not be recommending this player. I will update my review later if things change. Update: I bought a Collector's Edition of all The Alien Movies called The Alien Anthology an I wanted to Watch the Aliens Movie cause I had not seen the uncut version yet that is why I bought this Blue Ray Player an instead of being able to watch it the machine scratched it up an would not play it all the way through it would play half way an then freeze up. This Seller owes me a $100.00 for my disc an what I paid for this worthless piece of crap that I have thrown in the garbage. Now that my other blueray as come an it worked great on the other disks in the Anthology an none of them have a scratch on them. So don't buy this spend a little more money an get a better Player believe me the ones just a few bucks more are going to be worth it. ... show more

  • Cheap and works, but takes a bit of setup
It takes a bit of setup to get it to work with VLC, but once it does its great. Used it on a laptop for a road trip with the player stuff into the pouch of the back of seat. For setup, download the latest VLC (at least 3.0.18). Go to vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name and follow the directions there for the two files listed (keydb.cfg and libaacs.dll). If you want disc menus for blu-ray, you need to download java 8. Set the blu-ray region in VLC by going Tools > Preferences in the menu, in the lower left of the dialog change it from Simple to All, in the tree view go to Input/Codecs > expand Access Modules > click on Blu-Ray and you can change the Region there. ... show more
