  • Good Chair, But Lumbar Support Is Unneeded
Color: Black
The good: -Chair seat is firm but not uncomfortable; I'm hopeful it will last better over time than my previous chair -Arms are adjustable up and down with a decent range -Mesh back rest is comfortable even with back issues -Chair moves easily and quietly across the floor -Easy to lean chair back even if you don't weigh a lot The bad: -Rollerskate wheels tend to make the chair slide across the room when I get up -Arm rests are a bit too firm and hurt my elbows -Lumbar support digs into back too much even when adjusted to be as loose as possible and was not comfortable in any position. I ended up removing it entirely All in all, I'm happy with the chair so far. Removing the lumbar support was a bit of a pain, because the six screws holding it on are kind of hidden in there and required a bit of creativity to cobble together the right tool to reach them. It also took about as long to remove the lumbar support as it did to put the entire chair together initially, but it is possible. Once the lumbar support was removed, the chair was much more comfortable. The rollerskate wheels are a mixed bag; I like how quiet they are, but I keep feeling like one day I'm going to try to sit in the chair and it's going to roll away out from under me. It also keeps rolling into my spouse's chair at the desk next to me when I get up. The seat of the chair is very comfortable and large enough that it should support a fair range of sizes. I also like how the arm rests can be brought in closer or farther apart depending on your needs. The head rest is fine, and it doesn't get in the way when I'm using the chair. The metal base is a nice touch, as well. I've been using it about a week now (for work and play, so pretty heavy daily use). I have some back issues, but the mesh is comfortable and yielding enough not to cause me discomfort. Overall, the chair appears to be solid and good quality, and I'm happy with it for the price I paid. ... show more

  • Good Chair, Headrest too low
Color: Black
Good chair, easy to set up. Adjustable headrest is too low for me (5'-10" with an slightly longer than average torso). I used it for a while but it is removable and easy to take out. Lumbar support is adjustable and really good. Only other issue is the seat itself is shallower (from seat back to front edge) than my previous chair. Makes it more difficult for my dog to sit with me. I bought it on sale for less than $200 and is great for that price. ... show more

  • It's a chair
Color: Black
It seems I made every mistake in the book. I was looking for "shims" when I realized they meant washers. I put the base on the seat backwards and couldn't figure out why there was no room for the seat back to slide in. Hint: the side that is open on the seat is the side that has the seat back slide in. After an hour plus I got it all straight and tight and sat in it. It's a seat. No big deal. When I work it supports the lower half of my back and not my upper back and neck. It's really no better than the one I replaced. The seat is firm but not butt killing firm. The skate coaster wheels move the chair a little to fast for me - I'm used to scooting into position, not rolling off my glass chair pad. I will get used to it, but let's not get over hyped about a seat. ... show more

  • A good starter chair that adjusts well
Color: Black
This chair works well for me, but the comfort of chairs can depend on your size and shape (I'm 5'6, 120 lbs, with a long torso, so the lumbar support hits me just right). A tall or large person might not feel the same amount of comfort. Main points: [+] This is a support chair, not a squishy chair. The seat is firm and because the fabric is made of mesh netting with little holes that are hard to clean, it's not a chair for slobs. If you eat lunch in your chair and rain down little bits of sandwich while typing, this is not the chair for you. If you want a chair that's like sinking into your couch for a nap, this is not the chair for you. Actually, most ergonomic chairs are probably not it. [+] The seat tension control doesn't do a ton, so if the most important thing in a chair to you is the ability to recline or tilt forward, this isn't the chair for you. [+] Alternatively, if you're like me and you find that most chairs don't support the line of your back, so that you end up with a gap between you and the back support, this is a good chair. The mesh back supports your back without being stiff. Once you get the lumbar support calibrated, it's really comfortable. But again, the lumbar support pushes up and down, not forward and back. If you're looking for that chair that's going to shove you to the end of the seat, this isn't it. [+] There are a bunch of chairs with this design offered by multiple vendors. You take your chances with all of them. I'm happy with this one: the arm rests raise and lower, the lumbar support raises and lowers, the seat chair has a tension knob, the head rest raises and lowers. Is it customizable to a herman miller level? No, but it's also 1/5 the price. You really do get what you pay for, and for the price, this as adjustable as your money will be. [+] The construction is good enough. I can understand how a handful of people might end up with parts that don't quite fit together no matter how hard you turn the allen wrench. If you're mentally prepared for that and are willing to send back the chair for a replacement, then don't worry about the negative reviews about quality. Not every chair that comes off a factory line is a winner, and this is a factory chair at a factory mass produced price. [+] The chair comes with a pair of gloves. Put them on and wear them while piecing the chair together. You'll be surprised at the grease that's on the gloves when you're finished. [+] Putting the chair together was extremely easy and can be done by a single person. Engineering skill doesn't matter, but patience (and not having a quick temper) does. Read the instructions, prepare the bolts ahead of time so you're not trying to put the washer on while you're holding the seat in the air. Start all the bolts so they hold, but don't tighten until they're all in. Make sure the metal bits are flat against the seat when you tighten the allen wrench, especially the arm rests. Once the metal seat adjuster piece goes on, the seat becomes pretty heavy and unwieldy, so make sure to get the arm rests on straight first. ... show more

  • Instructions of some sort might have helped
Color: Black
The chair arrived today. Instructions of some sort in the box might have helped. I looked everywhere....nothing. After a search on the Amazon, I was to find assembly instructions. Maybe the factory smells like this. It has a strong plasticky small, not great. Maybe it will go away soon. This chair doesn't seem to be able "lock" the back tilt into a permanent position when you set it. When you lean back, the chair tilts back and forth freely, the lever will not let you "lock" in a tilt. As soon as you sit back up, it will tilt back up to full incline. Originally, I was going to give it a 3 star because of the above, but as I continue to sit in it (first 30 minutes) it seems like a pretty comfortable chair. ... show more
