  • Satisfied 10 years, bought again
Size: Power Head Motor
I bought this same model in 2015 for installing hundreds of wood fence posts in Florida sandy soil and it's been very useful. I had to replace the two fuel lines and the priming bulb/bubble several years ago due to not emptying the fuel prior to storing it for a couple of years at a time. This month i had the same issue, which is not the manufacturer's fault, and in fact, long lasting fuel lines are not easy to find. After discovering my backup supply of fuel hose, and my extra fuel bulbs had deteriorated, i check Amazon to see if the model was still available and it was for much less than i paid originally but this one didn't include any auger. The replacement motor unit appears identical to the 10 year old version except this one has a zirk fitting to add grease to the gearbox and this one implements the string starter with an internal wind-up spring that appears to store up part of your cranking and then suddenly releases it to start the engine. It is a nice improvement and smoothes out the pulling. The 55cc motor is powerful enough to injure your shoulder if you strike a rock or strong root at full throttle. It can screw itself down on a deep root and, if that happens, turn the motor off and rotate the entire machine counterclockwise to unwind the problem. Same goes for burying it too deep, without periodically lifting it to clear the dirt, and getting it stuck in deep soil. One final tip is to use a regular post hole digger (PhD) hand to dig out a plug of grass. Otherwise this machine will clog the auger bit on the grass and not dig into the soil below it. If you're putting in more than about 10 posts, you will wonder how you'd live without this machine. ... show more

  • A piece of junk - NO Warranty
Size: Power Head Motor
It worked OK for about 30 minutes, then started smoking and backfiring. I contacted support and was told to adjust the air/fuel mixture screws, but the support person could not tell me which screws these were. I realized later that there is NO warranty and it is NOT returnable. Do not buy this garbage. ... show more

  • Gets the job done for common Home owner
Size: Power Head Motor
This works well, used it to dig 10 3 foot deep holes with an 8 in Auger. Dug down first 2 feet very quickly and then I had to clear all dirt away from hole and out of hole to do the last foot. This is not the one I would want if you do this for a living but if you have the muscle to handle one it is worth getting for the home owner digging multiple holes. ... show more

  • Better then I honestly expected.
Size: Power Head Motor
This little powerhouse is impressive. I bought this to do a fence repair job hoping it would at least make the job go quicker. I really wasn't expecting much for the price. It starts very easily, is light weight and packs quite the power for a small machine. Seriously though for the price compared to others, I was hoping it would at least make it through the topsoil. Not only did it quickly chew through that, it took care of most of the shale rock beneath the soil. I'm very impressed with this little power house. I can hardly believe the value. Great for a home owner who occasionally needs to loosen soil. The only improvement I would have liked to see is a wider handle configuration for more leverage. ... show more

  • Worked great
Size: Power Head Motor
We used this auger and 4” bit to set 75 4#4 and 6 6x6 posts. The soil was sand with hard-pan layer that you find in northeast Florida. First few holes the bit did not want to cut through the hand-pan. After I pulled the protective plastic cover off the bit at the end of the auger blade it punched right through. Duh! Motor started every time. Follow the ratio mixture for the two cycle engine. Let it warm up for a couple of minutes before using. Instruction book shows how to add gear box oil, but it doesn’t match the actual gear box on the engine. Instead there are two grease fittings that you add grease to. I wasn’t sure if there was any grease on the gears so I pumped some in. No problems with the gear box. The 4” blade was just right for the 4x4’s. Very little to back fill. I used a manual post hole digger to widen the hole for the 6x6’s. I would buy this again and would recommend it to others. ... show more

  • bad instructions, not standard shaft
Size: Power Head Motor
Like another review mentioned, it starts right up if you ignore the instructions that came with it… Both the manual and the stickers on the side of the machine are wrong. Runs good when you know how to start it. Pump the primer bulb 5 - 8 times, pull with the choke on about 5 quick times. Turn off the coke, pull and it’ll start in a few pulls. Note, that it will not start if the choke is on, ever, but you need those first warm up pulls. 3/4 is not a standard shaft size if you are thinking of using this for ice fishing. 3/4 might be more common in the ground digging category, but the ice fishing bits out there are mostly 7/8s. There is one brand I came across that has 3/4 bits, ION. But ION is ridiculously more expensive than the other brands out there. Like, excessively so. Completely defeating the purpose of saving money on buying a budget powerhead. The ice auger bit Xtreme offers doesn’t appear to be purchasable at the time I ordered this. 404 not found Amazon dog page error clicking on its link. I paired this with my Eskimo hand auger bit, which of course also isn’t 3/4…. It’s 11/16ths. But I went to Lowes and got a 3/4” galvanized pipe, a 5/8” galvanized pipe, and some adapters to connect them together. 5/8” was close enough for the 11/16ths bit. Some drilling and bolts for pins later I’m off to the races. All in all, nice little motor… But if you’re using it for ice fishing you’re going to be doing some DIYing to make it work for you. ... show more
