First, the surprises: Setting the projector up the first time is not super straightforward, but not terrible. I found the auto keystone correction tool unusable: for some reason it decided that the best position was between the wall and the ceiling 🤷, but the manual adjusting tool works pretty well and playing back and forth between the zoom and the corners stretching nodes, I managed to place it exactly where I wanted, covering as much as I wanted, so a bit of a job, but doable. It downloads the updates and, in my case, freezes during the last part. I restarted it, and the installation finished without problems. Connecting it to Bluetooth was easy, and it worked with my Edifier speakers on the first try. My previous projector with Fire TV had a grudge against my speakers and got divorced frequently, only to reconcile on its own. With this, it seems the relationship is stable and strong. Also, Google TV, the operating system, may seem like the right direction to go, but it's remarkably weak in features and, for instance, doesn't come with a proper web browser or support Chrome. Then the browsers you could download are sketchy, to say the least. I tried one, and the interface and remote control navigation were atrocious. And speaking of the remote, it feels consistent, and, in general, it is a great deal. However, be advised of a certain latency between the turn-on action and the actual reaction, which I don't understand. You point the remote, press, and nothing happens for about 10 seconds. Finally, some buttons seem to be in the wrong position, but you'll get used to that. In general, it's a good remote control. About the operation noise, it is mostly quiet except when it decides it doesn't need to be and gets loud for a few seconds. I assume the fan ramps up to max speed as the temperature rises, but the first time I looked out my window, thinking the noise came from outside, it was that loud. I noticed later that it used to happen: when you pause something for a long time, it goes into Screensaver mode and then turns itself off. Then you restart it, and the fan goes into take-off mode. Now the juice: it is INCREDIBLY bright, the images are ABSOLUTELY beautiful, and its overall quality justifies its cost. I've enjoyed a few movies in a way I couldn't have envisioned before. It's close to an actual cinema experience. And yes, you can watch it during the daytime, decently clear. I also connected a Sony DVD player, and it ran smoothly; they worked together very easily, so both Bluetooth and HDMI compatibility with external devices went really well. As a conclusion for the first few weeks of ownership, it's been a solid investment, and I'm very satisfied. I'll wait a few months, and if something comes up, I'll report it here. XGIMI Horizon 20 PRO My First Projector- I'm Impressed

I recently replaced my 65-inch Sony X900H after it failed. I was able to partially repair it, but I ended up with a loss of color on one side of the screen. After reading numerous reviews of the XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro and realizing I could get a much larger image for a reasonable price, I decided to give a projector a try. I'm a movie enthusiast with a Klipsch Reference Premiere 7.1.4 home theater system in my living room, and this is my first projector. I chose the Horizon 20 Pro because it offered excellent value for money, a higher lumen output, and the appealing design with the promise of a sharper picture with the distinctive red ring lens. The picture quality exceeded my expectations. In a dark room, the image is outstanding, and it remains surprisingly watchable even in a fairly bright room. That said, don't expect it to match the deep black levels of a good television—that's simply one of the trade-offs with projectors. I should also mention that I'm currently projecting directly onto a wall and not using a dedicated screen, so there's likely even more performance to be gained. For me, this projector is absolutely capable of replacing a TV. I'd rather have a much larger, immersive image at this price than a smaller display with slightly better brightness or contrast. The projector really shines with high-nit HDR content, where it demonstrates what it's capable of. Colors look very accurate right out of the box—rich and vibrant without appearing oversaturated. I was also curious about the laser speckle that some reviewers have mentioned. If it's present on my unit, it's subtle enough that I haven't noticed it during normal viewing, and it certainly hasn't detracted from my experience. Overall, I think this is an excellent purchase. I'm still experimenting with the picture settings to see if I can squeeze out even better performance, but my first impressions have been extremely positive. If you're considering making the jump from a TV to a projector and can control the lighting in your room, I don't think you'll be disappointed. ... show more

Beyond My Expectations! Feel Confident Buying

Our 10 yr old Epson home projector died, allowing for a home theater upgrade. The tech landscape has changed dramatically over the past decade, with triple laser DLP replacing bulbs, etc. I did a quick but thorough research of "projectors from $1,000 - $2,000" and decided on the Horizon 20 Pro. It has higher lumens than the standard 20 but less than the MAX. The 20 Pro also has the 'red ring' lens of the MAX. Short of much else, they're all fairly similar in form and function, especially considering my use is in a dark basement theater with a proper gray cinema screen (so I don't need "max" lumens). I was concerned by the 13% of 1-star reviews, but there seem so many others who rave about their Horizon projector...and add me to the list. I'm extremely happy I purchased the Horizon 20 Pro. The June 2026 firmware upgrade seems to have fixed most of the complaints mentioned by unhappy customers. Please note: I did NOT install the optional USB-delivered DLP firmware upgrade--that seemed a pathway to problems per some reviewers. Everything has worked just fine so far. I've spent a week now learning about and tweaking the various display configs, which are many. Honestly, I was blown away right out of the box! The image clarity is great, even at 1080p. Image motion has been smooth, too. Everything tied in nicely to our 9.1 Pioneer receiver using the eARC connection. The included projector controller works great with everything, including controlling sound level for our receiver. All very convenient. Last night, I watched Disney+'s Mandalorian & Grogu movie, which had all the high-end streaming features, including 4K, IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Vision, etc. I worked with my AI companion to determine which settings to turn on or off to get the best cinema experience. Once I was finished, the lighting, the color, the 4K clarity, the dynamic blacks...everything was amazing! I'm extremely happy with this choice. No more aging light bulb and loud fans. If not using with earc or expecting long-term support then buy it. Otherwise run.

The mount for this projector has poor documentation and is not accurate. The projector itself is okay, but earc to a denon receiver does not work. The only solution is to disable earc for the projector to display the output of the receiver. This being my first xgimi projector I am a bit disappointed for the $ spent to not have features work as they should. Xgimi is focused on marketing the "latest and greatest" product every year without supporting or fixing the current ones they have. ... show more

Amazing Projector.

Just to set the stage. We have a dedicated theatre room, and have had a 4k Projector for a while. Since around 2019, that's when we made the 4k upgrade. At the time we chose one of the top-of-the line 4k lamp projectors. It's worked out fairly well. At the time, it was considered 'bright', by bright I mean roughly 1800 lumens. What this really meant was that a DARK room is required for best results. That's OK, we have that, we have a dedicated theater room, with curtains and can darken the room. For movie nights, it was fine. Fast forward to 2025 and I want to use that room for more than just 'movies'. Nobody wants to watch TV in the dark all the time and the projector just simply wasn't useful with the lights on. It was a struggle to watch. So I wanted a daylight viewable projector, and also one with LOW LATENCY so I could game in there if need be. The problem, though was that all these laser projectors that met my needs were north of $3k and I wasn't ready to do that. This projector is absolutely amazing. Marketing says it's 4100 Lumens so more than double the previous projector. While I haven't measured it. I did spend some time with another projector claiming 3800 Lumens and they were very similar. But I stuck with the XGIMI. Why? For the following reaons. 1) Super easy to mount. Hard to tell from the docs, but there is a standard 1/4-20 screw hole on the bottom and that's all you need. 2) It's portable. While mine is mounted currently, I could unmount it in about 2 minutes and take it with me. 3) It's not just a projector. It's also a SmartTV (GoogleTV to be exact). While our media room has an AppleTV, all of that is piped through a 4k / Dolby Capable reciever for the surround sound. So unless I'm using the Google TV, I'm driving it through for the reciever for the surround sound. Having said all of that, the sound from the unit itself, in our room is pretty fantastic. 4) Quick startup time, the other projector had significant delays starting up and shutting down. 5) Color and brightness are out of this world. While some folks complain of 'rainbow effects' from laser projectors, I don't see any of that so I'm super happy. But I also have a pro-level screen it's being projected against. So for me it's just 120 inches of awesomeness. It literally draws 1/3rd the power of the previous bulb projector. So what are the cons? 1) The form factor is a bit odd, but I'll take it. 2) The fact that it has an integrated GoogleTV OS. Google could just decide one day to brick it or get out of the TV business and you're hosed. That's a very real possibility. But for now I'll take the flexibility and roll the dice. I expect even better projectors in the next 3-5 years. FANTASTIC VALUE. If you can pick this up for $2k or less don't hessitate. It will change your projector world. ... show more

Bluetooth Issue (FIXED June 2026)

UPDATE — July 2026: The June firmware arrived as promised. The Bluetooth discoverability toggle works, the pairing popups are gone, and the projector is back in use. Fairness cuts both ways — XGIMI said June, and they delivered. I’m leaving the original review below. If you’re buying today, enable the Bluetooth discoverability toggle in Settings immediately — especially if you live in an apartment or anywhere a neighbour’s device might be nearby. The picture has always been exceptional. The software is now where it should have been at launch. Original Review: The picture quality is genuinely excellent — bright, sharp, great color from the triple laser. I want to be upfront about that. But there is a software defect that has made this projector unusable in my home, and XGIMI support has now confirmed in writing that it is a known issue with no current fix. The problem: any nearby Bluetooth device that is advertising for pairing (in my case, a device named "G760X") triggers a full-screen pairing prompt on the projector. It happens three to four times per minute. You cannot watch a movie through it. Accepting the prompt does nothing — the device never appears in the paired list, so there is no way to "forget" it. And there is no setting anywhere in the projector to make it non-discoverable, block a specific device, or suppress these prompts. I contacted XGIMI support with a detailed description. Their response, verbatim: their R&D team confirmed there is no immediate solution, and a "Bluetooth Discoverability" toggle is planned for a firmware update scheduled for June 2026. In other words, XGIMI is acknowledging that a $2,000 flagship projector shipped without a basic Bluetooth privacy setting that every smartphone, laptop, and tablet has had for well over a decade. If you live in an apartment, condo, townhouse, or anywhere a neighbor's Bluetooth device might be within ~30 feet, you should know this before you buy. My projector is currently sitting unused, and I have no guarantee the June firmware will actually arrive on schedule or fully solve the issue. Picture quality: excellent. I have had mine for about a year and it has been fantastic. At night or in dark rooms I generally lower the brightness to 1/10 and only raise it if I have the side window open. Still need to get speakers for it when not using my Arya Organic headphones, but the built in speakers are still very good. I’ve pretty much stopped going to the movie theatre all together unless it is a family outing, which kind of speaks for itself :) I’ve also used it for gaming and it is incredibly immersive ... show more

This projector is seriously amazing, it allows me to place it anywhere in a room and get a perfect picture due to its auto resize and obstacle avoidance features. Even my wife approved of the permanent placement in the (sacred) living room because I was able to place it out of the way and hidden Sound quality fills a room, the UI is snappy (as compared to the last gen XGIMI Horizon Pro) the the imagine quality is top notch. The projector is watchable even in bright daylight as you can see from my photo, and di you catch my placement? Can you see the projector in the pic? Hint: its nestled among the plants. ... show more
