I mounted this on the side of my bed in no time at all. Putting in the locking screw was a bit rough because my hands are not that flexible. Programming was a snap. I programmed both my wife's and my fingerprints as well as a new security code. I currently have a Shield X with 15 round magazine installed and a spare loaded 10 round magazine as backup although there is plenty of room for a larger one. I will soon be replacing that gun with my M&P 2.0 Compact with 4"barrel and Streamlight TLR-7 HL-X as soon as the Streamlight comes in. I'm very satisfied with the safe.     • Is the Xdeer a Good Gun Safe Choice? Maybe. Read on to find out why.
As I reviewed the many options for firearm lockup, I realized I would need to spend a minimum of $75 to get something decent. A thin metal box with a cheap lock will not due. You can opt for a strong steel box and a good pad lock and that probably isn't a bad way to go. Low tech and inelegant, but probably effective. You can also opt for a quality safe, but that will probably cost $250 or more, which is more than I want to spend and I want the ability to move and hide my gun safe, which isn't easily done with larger safes. So, several questions: 1) Is the safe box itself sturdy enough to withstand attempts to pry it open,? 2) is the lock itself difficult to pick,? 3) can the safe box be secured in place via both screws/bolts and a provided tether cable,? 4) can the safe box accommodate more than two firearms? I didn't want a safe box with fancy electronics (which invariably will fail all too soon) only to find out simple brute force easily defeats the box. I purchased this particular box because it's made of sturdy 12 gauge steel and has two locking points. I am satisfied on those issues. That said, a 3/16" inch gap around the perimeter of the closed down box top may make the top susceptible to prying open. I don't think it would be easy (if it can be done at all) and it would certainly take a very stout screw driver or other steel tool. The two lock loops are not only screwed in to the top door, but also appear to be welded. No way for me to know whether the locking mechanisms in the box are also strong. One of the competitor boxes similar to this one had a very weak wafer lock which one reviewer was easily able to pick in 20 seconds. The lock on this box is different and I have no way to know if it's better. I think it is. The Xdeer box does have two holes in the bottom to bolts or screw the box down so someone doesn't walk off with it and also has a slot to accommodate an included tether cable. The tether cable itself is only about 1/8" thick and I wouldn't rely upon it. Instead, I enlarged the existing hole and installed a 3/8" threaded eye bolt which I padlock to a heavy duty chain which is bolted to the wall. As to space, the box will easily accommodate four pistols in two layers and may, if some of them are compact, accommodate five or even six. That will certainly meet my needs. In summary, of the gun safes selling for under $100, I think this is a good choice. Given enough time and the right tools, I suspect a persistent thief would gain entry so the real objective is to make doing that too time consuming for them to attempt during a burglary attempt. As far as keeping children away from your guns, I certainly think this will work. Lastly, the code works perfectly well along with the keys and I haven't bothered with the fingerprint scan. Whether or not it works is the least of my concerns. In my opinion, focus upon how the biometric access works misses the elephant in the room, which is whether a low tech attack with a pry bar will quickly gain access or not. ... show more

Great product so far, easy assembly. It is working properly so far. The setup for the app and pairing it to the safe was a bit tricky. It took awhile until the app paired up properly with the safe. Once it paire it worked like it is supposed to. I can unlock it with the app from my cell. I installed it the trunk of my vehicle. I have it attached to my subwoofer box. Went to take it out of the box and some little spring fell out of it. It didn’t come with and hardware or manual, and it doesn’t lock. I was able to lock it 2 times and after that it won’t ever relock. What a joke

    • Best safe ~$100 can buy
Great little safe that I installed near a rear entry door. Large enough to keep my EDC kit options in one place away from kids hands. I keep a .45 and 9mm, two spare mags for each firearm, my EDC knife, and a small tactical flashlight. It is a tight fit, but it does all go in to my wall mounted set up. I’ll likely add some 1.5”-2” foam with custom cutouts, but for now it works as needed. I also throw spare keys into the safe so they are not just hanging on a peg or sitting in a drawer. Fingerprint reader was easy to set up. I’ve tried my non-programmed fingers, all the kids fingers, and a few friends… it never opens for anyone except me. Digit code lock was similarly easy to program / reprogram. 3-6 digits permitted; only thing that could use improvement here is if you use a combo that is short (3 digits), the lock will beep if you hit 3 incomplete buttons letting someone know how many digits your combo is. Easy solution is just use six digits and you have a combo with 46,000+ possible ciphers. Mounting to the wall was simple and the hardware was included inside the safe. Super surprised they included hardware for it. I opted to use a better, beefier anchor to make it more secure, but the included hardware would be adequate to mount it safely. One review mentioned that the security cord hole has a direct line of sight to the pin reset button. True; however the safe includes a tamper proof cover that fastens from the inside the blocks the hole and makes the reset button inaccessible unless the safe is open. Now, this is no replacement for a good fireproof vault. It wont make it through a fire. Don’t store important documents, cash, jewelry in here as a permanent solution. A determined person could break it open with enough time. But for my purposes - secure firearms from kids and smash/grab type home robberies - there isn’t a better way to spend a single C-note. Definitely recommend this safe. Wish they made a shotgun-sized version to put in the bedroom for my home defense 12-gauge. ... show more
