A lot of the reviews said the straps were too short so I bought additional straps. Totally not necessary. If you strap it in the way the instructions say to, they are exactly the right length with about a foot of slack. I don’t know if those reviews were for the folding ones or if they came with shorter straps than mine did, but I got the non-folding ones and they were great. Very sturdy. Installing was kind of a headache but I’m never great at installing things.

We own a couple of tandem kayaks that weigh over 75 pounds each. This is slightly over the recommended usage, but, they fit fine and work well. The straps that come with it are strong, and we have tried it with our tandem kayaks, but you’ll want ratchet straps. If you have anything large like we do. For single person, kayaks, the straps that come with a set are perfect so just be aware of, how bulky and big your kayaks are. These will take time to install, but once you do, it’s worth it. Just make sure that you have patience with some of the small washers and nuts for the screws, but it’s worth it in the end. We actually left it on last winter, and it did not rust.

These kayak racks were easy to install and are a good value for the price point. When strapped correctly, the straps were more than long enough and easy to use. Something to note, these aren't foldable, so they're always upright, which I didn't think about before purchasing. Additionally, the bottom lip of this rack sits quite high, and as a shorty, makes it nearly impossible for me to clear to load the kayaks myself, but that's a personal defect, lol! To mention, we were impressed with this set up for a couple weeks. I had these delivered on 6/22 and by 7/10, the soft wraps around the bars started to split and we've had to electrical tape them to use and keep our kayaks unscuffed. In addition, we took a longer trip (5 hour drive, half county road driving 55-60 mph and half hwy driving at 70-75 mph) and the straps started to fray. We've used them less than a month, and honestly less than that because the first few trips we used ratchet straps until we learned how to properly secure with the straps provided. So, if you're looking for a quick and affordable set up for local opportunities, I think these are a terrific value. If you're looking for quality and longevity, I don't necessarily recommend the product.

I used them on my 2020 Ford Explorer with after-market crossbars. They worked great! Installation was simple - took 10 minutes. They can only go on one way so it’s a no-brained. Very sturdy and easily accommodated 2 large kayaks!
