So these are nice knives, yes, but the metal is noticeably thinner on them than an identical set that I purchased some 20 years ago. Kind of makes me sad that everything seems be getting more cheaply made while simultaneously becoming more expensive. We all know why that is, of course--profit. But when you buy something "German made," you're doing so in great part because you want a product that puts quality first, and you're essentially saying that "I'm willing to pay for quality." When you put out the money, you want the quality. You're no longer getting it with these knives, and that is, as I said, disappointing. ... show more

    • Great knives make a difference

My wife and I cook non-stop. We had an old set of knives that one day squished a lime before cutting it...that was the last straw. I did a few weeks of research and came to the conclusion that Wusthof was the best value. They are right up there in quality with any other knife, but are priced much better than some of the others of the same quality. The Wusthof website also offers a lot of help for those who need it regarding maintaining your knives - telling you the difference between honing and sharpening and how often to do each and HOW to do each. 1 week in these knives are great. We've cooked every night and these knives just flat-out get the job done. Meats, vegetables, anything...these knives make it easy. They also are great for cutting thin slices when you need it. So far, we couldn't be more pleased. Initially - the chef's knife came with a tiny chip in the blade near the top, but I contacted the seller and they already have a replacement chef's knife on the way with a return label for the chipped knife. If they didn't take care of it, I called Wusthof USA and they said they would take care of it. Really good to know the service is that great. ... show more

    • Block isn't the one they had shown!

My gf has the same set and I love it. So I decided to get this set too. Her block is engaved with wusthof and I think it looks slick. The one that is pictured is a engaved one but the one I got has a sticker plate stuck to it. Look a little more cheesy or cheap to me especially for an expensive set of knives. I would have given more stars but I don't think there service is as good as it could be. Costumer service isn't what it used to be. It's not my fault they have the wrong block pictures but with the response below I was kind of put off. I was going to order more knives in the future from them but if there costumer service is like this I'll send my money elsewhere. Again the knives came and there awesome. Just not happy with the block. This is my first review ever. Sad it's not a good one but I felt like buyers should know! Just beware. There going to change the picture soon. "Our apologies that the block wasn't engraved with Wusthof like the picture shows. Some of the blocks, like the one you received, do not have it engraved and just come with the sticker plate. We will have the photo of the block updated to avoid future confusion. It is still a fantastic block to own and is 100% Wusthof. Glad you like the knives!     • Excellent blades hold a good edge

I bought my first Classic IKON chef's knife about a year ago, and love the balance of the knife and the edge that it takes. Decided to go all-in on a set. This is a very good value! The individual chef's knife was about half the cost of this entire set. I also have a set of Wusthof Gourmets, which are good, but don't take as good an edge or have the same balance in the hand. These blades are forged vs. stamped and you can actually hear the difference on the honing steel. The Gourmets don't quite ring the way the Classic IKON blades do. ... show more

Before I lodge my complaint I want to say up front that I do not blame the seller for this issue. Also, I believe someone else made this same complaint in a prvious review. If you take a look at the picture of the block that this knife set comes with it clearly shows that the Wusthof logo is 'burned' into the block. As a matter of fact, the box this set comes in from the factory uses the same picture. However, the block provided does not have the 'burned' in logo. It has a metal stenciled label (about .5" x 1") glued to the block. And, of course, this is misleading and I would have much preferred the other logo. But, this is secondary to the knives themselves. They were what I was expecting and were in fine condition. Had the block been up to par this would have been a 5 star item. My appologies for the picture quality. ... show more

I'm not a foodie, nor do I cook much, but I wanted a good set of knives, to make it more pleasant for when friends or partners come over and cook. But wow, a great set of knives makes a difference even for me!     • Buy a box of band-aids as well

These knives are very sharp and it's clear they will most likely last a few decades. I was used to using dull knives and there was a bit of a learning curve while adjusting to them. I have cut myself a dozen times so far but that's clearly just my own stupidity. These knives are very well balanced and look great too. The company I purchased them from, JL Hufford has done everything they can to make a satisfied customer. Unfortunately the little metal insignia on the block was upside down. I was able to fix it very easily though. JL Hufford was willing to send me a new block to recitify the situation but that wasn't needed. 5 stars for the knives and 5 stars for their customer service ... show more
