Very nice quality hand planes. Very comfortable to use, and the finish on the planes is very smooth. I got tired of restoring old hand planes so I bought these and only spent a few minutes on each blade to get a razors edge. I read that numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6 handles were small, but I disagree with that. I'm 6'3" and have older planes with small handles. These ones actually fit nicely, although the number 4 was a little smaller than the rest, which I thought was strange. Adjustments are easy, but the lateral adjuster is a little too stiff. Otherwise it takes very fine shavings and leaves a glass smooth surface on the wood. Tested with red oak. All planes were sealed in a plastic bag and covered in an oil to prevent rusting when being shipped. The planes were easy to take apart and clean. I highly recommend this product. If you were to buy each of these individually, you would be spending nearly twice as much. I'm confident that these planes will last a lifetime, and maybe passed down to my son when he gets older ... show more

    • Awesome set
Size: #3, #4, #5, #6 Kit
I didn’t have a good set of hand planes but only a couple small block planes. These planes rock. Great out of the box. Wipe em down good and sharpen the irons and you’ll see they work very well.

    • Excellent value and performance!
Size: #3, #4, #5, #6 Kit
As a daily user of WoodRiver bench planes (I have their #1, #3, #4 1/2, #5 1/2, #6, and #7), I can attest to their high quality and excellent value. After a bit of "fettling" (a term often used to describe the final adjustments needed for all but the most expensive planes), these bench planes can perform on a level equal to planes easily costing twice as much. I was privileged to be in one of Mr. Rob Cosman's Purple Heart Project classes in 2017; and he taught us how to fettle, sharpen, and use bench planes properly--with his OWN WoodRiver planes. Quite a recommendation from a world-known and highly-respected teacher and furniture maker. ... show more
