  • Excellent vise, strong, versatile
I'm using this vise to route, carve, and smooth gun stocks. It is absolutely perfect. Strong enough to hold as I use a cabinet scraper 12" out on a cantilevered part away from the vise's jaws. Just perfect.

  • Worht EVERY penny!
While this is not a cheap vise as far as cost. It is worth every peeny if your into carving. Thing is built like a tank and works perfeclty for what it is inteded for. Only issue I had is the threads where the rod screws into the vice would not let me screw the rod all the way down. I had to make a board with a hole through it to make a spacer so I could tighten the vice down where it would not wiggle. Other than that there is not a single thing I could bring up negativly. Great product and VERY fast shipping!. ... show more

  • More versatile than I expected!
6 Month Update: So I wanted to do a quick update since I've had the vise for just shy of 6 months now and have had plenty of interaction with it to get a better understanding of the quality & possibilities in using this vise. I have to say that I'm probably even more impressed by it now than I was initially, and I loved it from the start so that is really saying something. I have yet to find a piece of wood, no matter how oddly shaped, that this thing wasn't able to hold with an iron grip. I truly wish I would have purchased one of these years ago. I'm mostly a hand tool woodworker, I work both green & dry wood of all sorts of shapes & sizes. This vise has proved invaluable thus far in clamping everything from simple boards to complex shaped carving pieces, including spoons & kuksas. The clamping power is strong, and the included padded jaws have great grip, even on oddly shaped pieces of wood. Impressive capacity and so easy to mount. I simply mounted it to my everything bench (my spare bench that I do everything other than fine woodworking on). Easy to take off and move if needed and mount elsewhere so it's quite portable. I'd highly recommend this vise to anyone that's looking for a versatile, and portable clamping option. Don't let portable fool you, it may be portable, but it doesn't sacrifice on strength and build quality from what I've witnessed thus far. ... show more

  • Excellent choice for woodworking.
This is probably the most useful vise you could find to work on a piece of wood. If it will fit between the jaws, this vise will hold it firmly; in my case I use it for gunstocks and dovetailing.... Perfect. It will attach to any work bench that has a hole in it or that you can drill a 3/4" hole in. I held my breath when I ordered it, not knowing for sure what I was getting. I'm totally pleased. Made in Taiwan; great fit and finish and operates smooth as butter. The wood jaw faces have a nice rubber laminate that grips the work piece firmly, yet doesn't mar it. Have no fear, I think this vise is worth what you pay for it. ... show more

  • The best vise I have ever bought!
I make cigar box guitars and this thing is perfect for holding the necks while I work on them. This is the best vise I have ever bought. If you want it for working on gun stocks you couldn't ask for a better vise!!!

  • Good for guitarmaking
This style of vise is exactly what you used to get when you bought a vise from a popular luthier tool supplier. That supplier changed to a different paint color and a different handle style which is now a wheel-type handle. I always preferred this handle and am pleased to have gotten it here from WoodRiver at a better price. Now I have one of each and am pleased at how this has performed so far. ... show more

  • Could be better for the price
Pros - Useful and it works for what I want to use it for Cons - Not cast base as shown in picture, stamped out steel Wood jaws not properly aligned and crooked Had to tighten loose bolts Sloppy fit between the two rails and cast parts, I may re-machine to tighten it up eventually It looks the same as offered by others at a similar price and similar to one offered for much greater cost by another source. ... show more
