First off, these do not look real. To me, anyway. My hens love them. These eggs are shiny, whereas a real egg has more of a matte finish. If you're looking for a "real egg" look, these are a bit off, however, these are the best eggs I've ever used with my hens. For context, I plant them in the nest boxes to give my hens ideas about what they might do there. Here's why these are the best; 1 - My hens think these are real. Ceramic eggs look more real to me, but my hens never liked them. I think it's because of the weight and feel of them. My hens would just peck them to pieces. These eggs have a similar weight and feel to real eggs, so when they push them around in the nest it feels right. 2 - I can tell at a glance that they are not real. These eggs have a slight shine to them, which makes it easy for me to tell the difference between real and planted just by looking in the nest box. I don't have to pick up each egg in the nest box to tell which is which like I did with the ceramic ones. 3 - These are very sturdy and durable. My hens have not pecked at them yet, but if they do, the eggs will be just fine - no shattered pieces and angry chickens like with ceramic eggs. 4 - You can't beat the price. They're a bit more expensive than plastic Easter eggs from the dollar store (which did NOT go over well, by the way...), but for the sudden rise in egg production, general happiness of my hens, and long term durability, it is a win/win. I would absolutely recommend these for hen house use.

If you have chickens that lay brown eggs, these are hard to tell the difference from the real ones. I had to mark them to keep from picking them up by mistake.

Realistic, just like real eggs. The only way i can tell them apart is by weight. But, my chickens are still eating their eggs. It worked for the first few days, i collected all fresh eggs, but now there are only eggshells left in the nesting boxes.

Going to use these about 6 weeks before we are going to get 6 chicks in the mail. I seperate a hen that makes a decent mom and that I know will go broody. (Turken) I use to sacrifice real eggs to do this but that can get messy when they get stepped on. These wooden ones are perfect. Perfect weight and texture on the outside as a mama hen needs to roll these as she "incubates" them. It takes about a week or so in a seperate from the flock "mama hen luxury apartment" that I made for a hen to become broody. I made a deluxe nest out of hay and I lay about a dozen eggs in the nest and and make sure she has her own water and food and she isn't bothered by anyone and make sure I hate raising chicks. I hate raising chicks in the house. It's so messy and anxiety ridden. Heat lamps and even the warming tables can be potential fire hazards. I don't have to worry about any of that. I just set up mama to do what comes natural and I sit back and do nothing lol These wooden eggs are PERFECT for this!
