  • I have been using it for 25 years
Color: Violin
I have been playing the violin for 25 years, and teaching for the past 12. When my younger students come of age, I always switch them to this shoulder rest. It helps them keep their violins parallel to the floor while playing, and having that proper hold really makes a difference. After reading some of the negative reviews complaining about how the shoulder rest won't stay on, I can't help but think about how many people in this world truly don't have any common sense. The brackets on either side are sturdy, yet pliable. They are meant to be bent inward to ensure a more snug fit if one is having issues with the shoulder rest staying put. I hate to be rude, but it doesn't take a genius (Or does it? 🤔) to figure that out. ... show more

  • This is a fully adjustable shoulder rest.
Color: Violin
I have been playing the fiddle for three years using an inexpensive shoulder rest. The only adjustment option was a moderate change in the height. Recently, I was experiencing pain around my collar bone and neck while practicing, so I purchased the Wolf Forte Primo Shoulder Rest. It's sturdy. You can adjust the height, and you can bend the bar that has the foam on it. You can also tilt the bar. The foam is thick. You can bend the brackets with the feet to fit your violin, and you can turn the feet to the right and to the left. The feet are covered with thick rubber so they won't scratch your violin. I am very happy with this shoulder rest because I don't have pain anymore. This might be because of the thick foam and because I was able to adjust it to be higher than my previous shoulder rest. Somebody said this shoulder rest is only good for people with long necks, but my neck is not long and it works for me. Somebody else above asked if it would fit a 7/8 violin. I have a 7/8 violin, and it fits it very well. I highly recommend this shoulder rest. ... show more

  • Love It
Color: Violin
My teacher recommended this shoulder rest on day 1. She uses the same and allowed me to try hers. I fought with my original one for 3 days while waiting for this one to arrive. To be honest, I felt so defeated by the time my new shoulder rest has arrived. I already had violin hickeys forming, and my muscles were so sore and tense from trying to hold my violin properly. When I put on this shoulder rest, everything felt so much more natural, comfortable, and secure. Because I wasn't struggling to hold my violin properly, my sound improved, as did my bowing. I did not have issues with adjusting the height of the shoulder rest. I like that either end swivels to "collapse" my rest for easier storage. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews here. It certainly helped me. ... show more

  • Finally found a shoulder rest to fit my Yamaha Electric 4/4 Violin!
Color: Violin
In looking for a proper fitting shoulder rest, I've tried several different brands and models. For my acoustic violin I settled on the very lightweight Kun Carbon Fiber rest (2 oz). But I also have a Yamaha Electric Violin, and the rigid feet of the Kun don't stay on the frame of the Yamaha. (Anyone who is familiar with that violin would understand what I'm talking about. It's frame is much thinner than the height of the curve in the feet where the violin attaches.) So, it kept slipping off. I also tried the Wolf Forte Secondo (2.79 oz), which was better (because it has rubbery grips), but it had too much 'play' in the adjustment, and it also slid off the Yamaha. Realizing I needed the rubbery feet, I found this Wolf Forte Primo (2.61 oz), which gives just enough pressure against the frame that it holds on very nicely. Others I've tried were the BonMusica (3.46 oz) and the Everest (basic). ... show more

  • Nice for long necks
Color: Violin
Been playing for a decade and a half on the same Kun rest my first teacher recommended and have always had a hard time with being too tense while playing. Turns out I have a long neck and needed a different rest. Scoured youtbe for reviews and came upon this rest. Wow what a difference. I feel like the instrument is really opening up to me now. The cost and construction are good. The pad size is generous and the height adjustability is really an improvement over the kun. ... show more

  • Perfection!
Color: Violin
This shoulder rest is everything. The feet are made of thick gum rubber, not foam, and they do a great job at protecting the finish of my expensive-for-me violin. They twist and fold down for a lower profile to store in an outer pouch if your case has one. The shoulder foam is really dense, comfortable, and it grips well. The metal plate under the foam is just malleable enough to get it where you want and it holds its shape well. I'm not familiar with the quality of the base model, but this was definitely worth the upgrade. ... show more

  • Falls off constantly, for long necks only.
Color: Violin
The school requested we purchase a neck rest when my daughter chose violin. I think we could have purchased a $4 foam job from the music store, and in retrospect I would do just that even though I can afford "better". My 9 year old daughter has a long neck, so this is okay in that realm. When my younger son was born we joked that he was born with no neck, and he continues to be a kid without much in the neck department, a feature only my husband and I actually notice. I would push back on any neck rest for him, but I certainly would not buy this again. Also, this thing falls off constantly. I spent more to get higher quality, but you would think that would mean not having to fiddle with it (see what I did there) all the time. It makes me frustrated for my daughter who has to deal with it constantly. I should probably give it fewer stars! ... show more

  • Garbage
Color: Violin
I'm well aware that this is one of the most popular shoulder rests however I found this to be absolute garbage. First off it doesn't really fold. The screws might bend down a little but this wouldn't even fit in my large violin case. It is too straight and has almost no bend to fit the shoulder it It's Too Tall even at the shortest setting. I have an average female neck length. it falls off my violin every time I remove it from my shoulder. The brackets with which this holds on are very large and crudely covered. It is also very wide. I just could not get comfortable with this shoulder rest. Not to mention it broke within a week. I purchased the kun collapsible rest and it is wonderful to say the least ... show more
