If you leave the foam cushion off it can support a clarinet or a flute though the flute is not as secure because the post is sloping and thicker at the bottom. Why I say mostly sturdy is because my flue when I rest it on the stand thingy it is very wobbly but it does stay there and doesn't fall off. But other than that this is really awesome
