these work Great I've bought two sets of these in the past they get moved from boat to boat ,the inserts work great for cup holders too ,Scotty 311 drink holders,They make other items that you can you with the inserts, the inserts ,They are flush with the top of the gunnel so nothing to bump or break off,though when the rod holders in they are solid and tough,very good product sometimes they are a little hard to get the spinning rod out, bait caster rods work better ,but they do what they are supposed to do and thats hold your rod ... show more

    • Great addition to my kayak
Summary: These rod holders are a great addition to my kayak, but you have to be careful when adjusting their position. I installed these at the rear of a tandem kayak so that they don't interfere with rowing, but are still within easy reach of the rear seat. They keep my rods out of the floor of my kayak and also allow trolling a lure, live bait, or my portable transducer when moving from one location to another. Each holder comes with a separate flush mount. This is a great feature because it allows removing the rod holders when transporting my kayak on my truck's rack. Once I get to the water I can easily install the rod holders. The holders both swivel and tilt up and down, so if I'm trolling with two rods I can angle the rods holders out to keep the lines separated. When I stop to fish, I can tilt the holders down so that they don't interfere with casting. The holders swivel by lifting them slightly off the base, rotating them to the desired position, and then pushing them back into the base. Once pushed into the base they are very secure. The holders are removed from the base by rotating them to a specific position and then lifting them from the base. I nearly lost one holder and a rod by trying to adjust the holder's position while in motion. When I was rotating it to the desired position I happened to get to the removal position, pulled up too much, and pulled the holder from the base. Both the holder and the rod it was holding nearly went overboard. But I blame myself rather than the design of the holder. I've enjoyed these rod holders so much that I plan to buy two more to install in the front of the kayak. ... show more

    • Pretty darn good.
On the big side. Will fit both bait casting and spinning rods easily. Has a highly visible locking collar to prevent loss of your rod and reel. The adjustable angle feature is a plus at this price point. I wouldn't suggest trolling for tuna or marlin with it though. The only negative I can see is the mount cannot be installed upside down (on a bench seat in a row or jon-boat) and still have a locking feature to prevent it from spinning 360 degrees.     • Good for the money
Good for the money but not as good as a Scotty. The reel seat of all my rods over 6 ft rest right at the level of the plastic ring that holds the rods so you really can't secure them in. Instead they just slide in through the top and aren't held in well. Smaller rods work ok though.

These rod holders are great. Although not as solid as my scotty rod holders they work well. I agree with other posters that say you shouldn't fish for big fish with these. However I always use the bait alarm free spool method for flathead so these will work fine. Would buy again!

These are very cheap. The upper part where the rod handle sits is flimsy and feels like it would break very easily. Should have bought the Atwoods. I have two of those mounted and there is no comparison. Wise may make some decent products but these rod holders are definitely not one of them. The white collar that slides over the rod handle to help secure it in the holder broke the first time I used it. Now I have to take my time to take off the Wise bases because the Atwood holder will not fit in their base. ... show more

These are not as good as attwood. They claim to accommodate spinning rods but they’re not properly designed for this. You have to flip the spinning reel over so the reel is facing up instead of down, otherwise you can’t utilize the locking feature. This is not the case with Attwood. I had the same problem with the Scotty rod holders I bought. The Scotty are much sturdier than these though. I’m not at all pleased with this purchase. I would recommend spending a little more for attwood. Even if your not using a spinning reel, the attwood have a much sturdier build. The only reason it’s getting two stars instead of one is because they’ll work well enough for baitcast and spincast reels. ... show more
