I installed this system on a car that sits low and has limited visibility, to aid in parking. This is a high-quality, wireless back-up camera system which is easy to install, and provides excellent color accuracy, as well as daylight/low-light/night images. Each component is well-constructed and functions together well as a complete system. The camera-to-video monitor link is wireless, and in my specific installation, connect time averages approximately 6 seconds. When powered on, a graphic appears on the monitor, followed by the image from the camera. Initial pairing of the camera and video monitor is straightforward, relatively quick and is controlled by a one-time Settings option on the video monitor menu. Subsequent pairings are automatic. The 4.6-inch video monitor produces a clear image and provides buttons for various image-related settings, e.g., brightness, contrast, color saturation, etc. Shipped with the system is a license-plate mount camera (different than the one shown in the product description on Amazon) with infrared LEDs for night vision, a 5-inch video monitor, a transmitter/sending unit, wiring harnesses, a cigarette lighter power adapter/lighted switch, mounting hardware, electrical connectors and printed instructions. The wiring harnesses and connectors, along with the included hardware, allow for virtually any mounting configuration desirable. In my installation, I used the provided suction-cup apparatus to attach the video monitor to the windshield. It’s highly adjustable and requires only a one-time ‘press-and-forget’ mounting. Installation is simpler and less time-consuming than previous wired models, in that there is no wire required to connect the camera and monitor. This saves the time and effort required to route a wire through the car to connect the two components. In my installation, I chose to utilize an On/Off switch on the console, so I routed a fused power cord extension from the camera, transmitter and monitor to the car’s electrical bus, via the switch on the console. This offers the advantage of being able to turn the system on or off at will, eliminating the need to have the car in reverse. However, this is NOT a requirement of the system’s design, but rather, my own personal preference. As with other back-up camera installations, I utilized security screws to attach the camera to discourage tampering or theft. The installation/instructions manual requires some interpretation to make up for specific details lost in translation. The seller acknowledged that this needs to be addressed. I’ve worked with this company previously and found that they are very responsive and helpful with questions about functionality and technical issues. In my experience, it rates as one of the best for this type of product. Being a wireless system, the advantage is a simpler, less time-consuming installation. The trade-off, in this case, is camera-to-monitor connect time (~6 seconds). While this may seem like a long time to wait, especially if you choose to wire the system to the car’s reverse lights, knowing the delay time in advance and out of repetitive use, the wait is anticipated and becomes a non-issue. If, like me, you choose to hardwire the system directly to the car’s electrical bus (bypassing the reverse lights), the system will power up as soon as the ignition switch is turned on and will be operational by the time you’re ready to roll. For my application, the connect time is not an issue. It should be noted here that, in the meantime, the seller is introducing an updated version which will eliminate the separate transmitter component, and significantly reduce the camera to monitor connect time. I’m currently in the process of bench-testing it and will provide a review of it shortly. As I’ve only had the system installed for a short period of time, I can’t provide a rating for reliability or longevity. For the purpose of this review, however, I’ve assumed a high degree of reliability that is characteristic of the seller’s other products.     • Exactly What I Needed!
I have a Ford Excursion, which is a big SUV, and I always have issues backing and hooking up to both my utility trailer and our 29’ toy hauler, plus it’s such a big car that I always worry about backing up and not being able to see if something low is behind me. Wow, what a difference this little camera has made for a car that’s my “I’ll keep forever car.” The camera and monitor is sharp, and with the lines on the screen, I can now back right up to the trailers tongues without the need to be guided. Backing out of parking stalls I now can see behind me, and with added lines on the monitor I know how far I can backup and not worry about getting too close. The camera was very easy to wire up as I connected it to the license plate light, so it’s on when I turn on the lights, which is every time I drive anyway. The monitor is surprising sharp, and easily plugs into the cigarette lighter, and it has a nice on and off button with an indicator on the plug. I think I’ll hard wire it into one of the fused circuits just for a cleaner look. I am so impressed with having a good quality, and simple to attach, backup camera for an older car that I now plan to get a second RV camera for when I tow our 29’ toy hauler trailer. UPDATE 11/28/2022 Wow, I was offered and sent a “free” backup camera for our trailer, and I am so impressed with how it works and looks! We have a 29’ toy hauler which was pre wired for a camera, so the installation was very simple. However, I had to buy a male-male connector between the plug on the trailer and camera, which was about $10 on Amazon and made it a simple connection. The camera has a female connector and the trailer had a female connector. The pairing was simply and it only took me about a half hour to install. The clarity was very good, and almost better than the car camera. I now have both a split screen or a single view of the camera on both my car and trailer. I mounted the nice size 5” monitor on the windshield above my rear view mirror so it’s not on the dashboard and a distraction to my view. I had been looking at individual RV cameras with larger screens, but they would probably have to be mounted on the dashboard and be a distraction and block the front view. CUSTOMER SERVICE The customer service has been excellent! When I sent the email requesting the second camera I received a response within 24 hours, and was sent the camera within a few days. Their only request to receive the camera was to write a review, with no requirement or pressure to write a good one. A month after installing the car camera it stopped working. I did all the things that were suggested in the trouble shooting in the manual, but couldn’t get it to work. I sent the company an email with the issue and what I had done to try and fix it, and received a response within 12 hours stating they would send me a new camera. I received the new camera the next day! Wow! I have to say that it isn’t often I’m impressed with a product or customer service, but with these cameras I’ve been very impressed. If you want a good car or trailer camera, or actually both, I wouldn’t hesitate to get this camera and monitor. ... show more
