I've lived in NYC all my life and have used many ACs over that time including those that claim to be whisper quiet. There have been none that live up to that name except for this one. It installs in minutes, like 5 minutes! So easy a caveman could do it. It looks great in the window ( see attached photo) . and once you turn it on and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes it quiets down o the point where you barely recognize it's on. I use it to cool my entire 2 bedroom apartment and love that when it is on I cannot hear it all in my bedroom which I leave the door open and use a tower fan to bring the cold air to me. At first you will hear not the typical loud humming of an average AC which never gets any loqwer, but a sort of buzzing sound. Thhis will be noticeable for about 5 or 10 minutes as the AC begins to cool the room. After this time that sound will go almost inaudible and all you will hear and very low wooshng of thefan if set at low. In fact if set at low you might not even hear the fan at all. The buzzing gets barely audible if you are in the same room and unnoticeable in other rooms. And unlike other ACS when it cycles on and off there is no noticeable big shaking of the window pane or in the walls. It just goes on, the buzzing starts and then goes away. The longer it stays on the quieter it gets. So as far as the AC is concerned , it's great. Cools 900 square in 30 minutes at high fan which i then turn down to low. Is very very quiet, and looks super clean in the window. I'd say buy this one. My only negative about this AC is the Wifi App to turn it on and off remotely. When I first installed it, it worked fine. I was able to turn the AC on or regulate the temperature when i was at work to get ready for my arrival and turn it down or off when i was out. Very handy indeed! I loved it. However it stopped working, and when i tried to re-install and reconnect , well lets just say after 5 or 6 attempts ( and I'm very tech savvy) i got frustrated and deleted it all my data. Kudos on the AC but fix the APP to make this a super special Air Conditioer

This thing is junk. Before I go any further I should say that I also wrote a negative review on Windmill’s website, but they hid it. So that’s cool. First, it does cool. I’ll give it that. I worry about longevity given some of the other reviews, but for now, it cools. I purchased this thing in May of 2025 for two reasons - the ability to set an automatic schedule (Automations) and the promise that it would be quiet. Well my first unit was incredibly loud, and the Automations never worked. I spent all of last summer trouble shooting with Windmill, jumped through a million hoops, issues were never fixed. Fast forward to this year, put it in, same issues, contacted Windmill, told them I was done with the trouble shooting run around, they sent me a new unit (great)! Except not great. The new unit is LOUDER. I’ve attached a video of the incredibly annoying rattle. And, the automations (schedule) still don’t work. I’m not setting them up in correctly, they just don’t work. So, again, it cools. Great. But so do a million other window AC units, at a lower price point. This thing markets itself on WiFi connectivity and low noise and both of those claims are false. I think I could deal with the Automations failing as infuriating as it would be, but it’s SO LOUD, regardless of setting. Two units, so it’s not a fluke. Don’t fall for the marketing, it’s false.

I’ve had my Windmill AC for two months and could not be happier with its ability to quickly cool my studio apartment, its quiet nature, its efficiency from an energy standpoint, the technology / smart compatibility, and customer service. The unit arrived promptly within two days after purchasing from Windmill, and being someone who supports small businesses, buying directly from the company’s store on Amazon was an added bonus to an already great product. Setting up the AC was seamless and straightforward, with concise yet detailed directions that made the installation process stress-free and quick. The ancillary items provided with the unit (insulation, adhesive foam, hardware, etc.) were great and more than enough to safely and efficiently set up the AC (and required no trips to the hardware store that were all too common with past units I have purchased). From start to finish, I was able to set up the AC unit in under an hour, and contrary to other units I’ve owned that were oversized or required an abundance of foam / installation to prevent cold air from escaping the room, the items provided were more than enough to secure the unit, insulate the room, and make the unit look great. In terms of output and performance, the Windmill AC unit exceeded my expectations from the start, quickly cooling my studio apartment that often gets very warm during the late afternoon. The fact that the air flows up from the unit, versus straight out like many other brands, enables you to cool down a room with tall ceilings or awkward dimensions (very deep room etc.). The “eco” feature is another positive that I’ve loved about Windmill as it balances energy consumption via fan speed and desired temperature to maximize efficiency. Lastly, I spoke to a Windmill representative about the “smart” setup given my disdain with technology, and he went above and beyond to ensure I could operate and monitor the unit from my smart phone – something that I would never have been able to figure out. Overall, I highly recommend this AC unit for anyone looking to have a powerful yet efficient machine and guaranteed easy installation process, not to mention the exceptional customer service and support of small business.

This is a really well-designed AC unit. The box, added parts and instructions are easy to follow and well thought out. The installation was easy for me and should be straight forward for others. The unit is balanced which made it easy to support once on the windowsill. I liked how the side curtains are part of the unit and extend out. They get screwed into the window frame and sill. The vertical screw on the sill was the challenging one of the two. The aesthetic panels go on over the side curtains and really makes the unit look nice. This is the best-looking AC unit I have ever had. It has an App which lets you control it remotely and that is cool. There is a small remote and touch controls on the face of the unit. It is quiet and pushes out cold air. We have had the unit installed for 2 days. I am excited to have this ready for the summer heat.

Update after one month: IT RATTLES. After using it for one month, it has developed an incredibly annoying rattle every time the cool and eco settings are used. I don’t believe it’s the fan, because it doesn’t make the same noise when the fan setting is being used. This leads me to believe that it’s likely something to do with the compressor. Just a thought of having to. Just the thought of having to remove it and return it for a replacement feels exhausting. I’m not sure what to do now. I don’t know how reliable it’s going to be in a few months if it’s already experiencing issues after only being used for one month. Original review: This was a super easy install. My husband was able to install in less than 20 minutes. It’s VERY quiet. My regular fan is louder than this unit on high. It cooled the room quickly as well. The app was very easy to setup, intuitive and fast. Aesthetically… probably the best looking window unit I’ve seen. Very impressed and definitely recommend.

Edit: This fall (2024) when I removed the unit for the winter, it was no longer working. So why the still high rating? I worked through the Amazon system to discuss the issue with Windmill and they asked for some photos of the unit. It showed two errors, F0 and F8. I could not find any info on what the problem might be, and when they saw these images of the errors on the unit screen, they offered a full refund or replacement. I took the refund since I won't need it again until June or July. It was all very easy. So given their handling of the situation and the quality of the unit, I will still consider another next summer. I won't do it again if it fails again, but they really did stand behind their product. Original: This AC is quite efficient and for that I love it. It's also reasonably quiet. But only reasonably. I measured it and it met the stated specs, but the reality is that even this seemingly quiet AC is pretty loud when set to full cooling (highest fan setting). Now, that's not to say it's loud, just loud when I need to be working e.g. on zoom calls. Again to be fair, those on the other end don't hear it. And in fact it may be pretty quiet commpared to other machines. It's just that I had high expectations given the ad copy. In short, I'm mostly happy with this unit, and it is almost certainly much less expensive to run (power consumption is low by many standards). The lower running cost is actually much more important to me in terms of my footprint on power consumption overall. If I can get the same cooling at a much lower power useage, why not? Hope this is helpful.

Installation was incredibly easy, and it is SO QUIET AND COLD! Granted this was replacing an absolutely ancient window unit, but I couldn't handle another summer of trying to sleep with that godforsaken thing rattling and humming all night long and cooling unevenly at best. This was a huge upgrade, but also it's just beautiful to look at and works so quietly and thoroughly. This is a huge upgrade and will help me as I trudge through another another NYC summer.

I wanted to love this AC unit. I fell for the marketing on the sleek look and super quiet. "Library quiet" Unfortunately it has a deep rumble when part of it kicks on and I can feel the vibration in my chest when I'm trying to sleep, sometimes I can feel it kick on when I'm downstairs and it vibrates the house. It feels like half of a panic attack and even when it's running quietly I spend half the time dreading the deep, louder noise starting up again. I reached out to support and they kept telling me to re-install the magnetic front cover. I had these issues when I first got it but tried to make do. Last year I didn't even install it so now just 2 years from the purchase date they're denying the warranty. They obviously don't stand by their products if they limit themselves to 1 year. Save yourself. Go with a conventional brand that's been around for a while. I spent $540 on something I cant stand.
