  • working great
value, sheerness, thickness, all 5 stars for what I paid. While this is on the small side of vices, it is perfect for what I need. A small vice for small projects like wood and metal, and the face even has some cutouts to help center tiny things without needing anything extra. I've used this vice moderately and really cranked on the handle for some steel plates (for my dirtbike) and the threads hold up great. The vice keeps everything stationary while I grind on it, and for the asking price, I am pleased with its size and performance. Would highly recommend for anyone on a budget as long as they realize the maximum size. It's small, but it's tough as it gets. The ceramic paint coating is glossy and very easy to keep clean. ... show more

  • Worked for my application.
I picked this drill press vise to drill into metal. It fits my bottom of the line, 5-speed, 8" Central Machinery Drill Press from Harbor Freight that sells for around $50. This 3" size fit the drill table well. For that drill press table, you'll need 4 hex bolts that are 1-3/4" long including the bolt head, with the threaded part being 7/16" in diameter. Also you'll need two washers and a nut to fit that size bolt properly. The outside diameter of the washers should be 1". I attached the bolts, one in each slot with a wrench so that the crank of the Wilton vise was facing me. One washer under each bolt head, one above each nut, the nut facing down under the table. Tighten secure but do not over tighten the bolts. Center the drill carefully and pre-punch the work with a centering punch to keep the drill bit from wondering too much. I prefer to use Molybdenum bits to drill metal as they're stiffer, less prone to overheat, stay sharp, and last a long time. Set the belt of the drill press on the slowest speed to drill metal. Overheating the bit increases the likelihood the bit will break and wear prematurely. For safety's sake, wear eye protection, don't force the bit into the work, and drill a tiny bit at a time. Raise and lower the drill bit like a woodpecker. If it smokes you're going too fast. I also recommend using a couple drops of Tap Magic cutting fluid (for use with steel, or Alumatap brand for aluminum) to keep the bit cool, lubricated, and to prevent it from smoking. I don't know which drill presses this vice will fit on. But the spacing of the slots on this one works with the press I mentioned above. The jaws have good depth which I needed. Be careful as to your drilling depth, if you go to far you can hit the metal rod of this vice. There is a drill depth indicator on the drill press. Move the drill head up and down to see that you won't hit it before you apply power. Good quality unit, did the job well, though I had to glue the balls on the handle back on with superglue gel, which was easy enough. Also I put some synthetic grease on the screw. ... show more

  • Nice quality
Nice quality vise, but I returned it because the webpage is sorely lacking any meaningful technical information (namely, measurements). It was taller than I wanted for my CNC machine, so it was returned.

  • Jaws not hardened and only one jaw has grooves
I received my vise today. Yes I am happy with my purchase. This vise is better than anything available from Harbor Freight, Lowes, etc... and actually cost less. Wilton has been a brand I trust for many years. However just to be clear. The "jaws" as stated in the description are not both grooved. They are also not hardened as stated in the description. The jaws are low carbon steel stock cut to length with a chop saw. All of the edges had sharp burrs which were easily removed with a file (aka not hard). The mounting holes were not chamfered. For the price you may be hard pressed to do better. I looked at a vise at Lowes and the jaws would not close parallel, making the "pony vise" utterly useless. Some people mentioned the follower tube that runs the length of the vise. That the drill might hit it. Trust me. You want that. Its what keeps the jaws inline and parallel. Just set the depth on your machine. If I need another vise (which I do) I will purchase a Wilton vise. ... show more

  • Nice drill vise.
I bought a new bench top drill press and decided to upgrade my vise. This is perfect for my uses. I’m a hobbyist, mostly, so I rarely need a larger vise, but I also expect my work to be done well, so I need a good quality vise. I highly recommend this vise.

  • A well made, heavy and sturdy vise.
Smooth operation with no misalignment or ride up of the jaws. Some have complained that the following rod runs through the center of the vise where the drill bit could damage it during drilling. So? I adjust my table for every drilling or tapping job. I adjust the bottom stop so that the bit stops short of striking the following rod. Problem solved. Doesn't even require an extra step. The side slots on the vise didn't mate up exactly with my Ryobi table. I simply placed both bolts on one side of the vise. If, down the road, I have problems with centering on a job, I will just drill out larger diameter holes in the slots of the vise. It is only about 1/8" off. Or using a smaller diameter bolt might do it. ... show more

  • Great but arrives filthy
The vise itself is excellent, nicely machined, precise, heavy, a very good deal for the price. I'm happy with it. The adjusting screw is a little stiff but that's OK. I use it to hold electronic circuit boards and parts during assembly rather than in a machine shop. MUCH better than the lightweight, cast, cheapo vises I've bought elsewhere. The only problem is that it came covered top and bottom in filthy black oil (I guess because it's made in China?). It took me five paper towels to clean it up, but after that it's great! ... show more

  • First vise bad, second vise perfect.
The first vise arrived damaged. The handle was completely sheared off at the acme thread shaft. Looked like the vise took a pretty severe blow, yet the the package didn't appear to be damaged. I used Amazon's return service and also had them send me out a replacement immediately. The replacement vise arrived quickly and it's in perfect shape. High quality everywhere you look on this vise. Finely ground surfaces on the jaw slide and base. Jaw inserts have nice v-cut grooves for holding round stock. A real step up from the cheapie $15 vises you see around. Fits perfectly on my WEN 4210 Drill Press with Laser, 10-Inch . ... show more
