Everything on this boot from the premium textured leather upper, eyelets and laces, to the sole and heel- loop are all one tonal color. The classic pascal 8-eye boot, reinvented in a monochromatic colorway, with zip detail. Clean, crisp and totally minimalist–perfect for the more fashion forward among us. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air- cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Well let me start with, this is my first pair of Doc Martens. Out shopping with my Daughter last Christmas. She needed a new pair of shoes for her job. Everyone at her job wears Doc Martens. I was never interested in them they always seemed so klutzy and big. So looked on Amazon and ordered a pair of chelsea unisex’s size 8 and they were too big, and I sent them right back. Ordered pair 1460 unisex again, and again too big, sent them back. Amazon is so great about returns. Went to a local shoe store and tried on a pair of womens 1460. I am a true size 8.5 I tried on a 8 and it fit perfect. The Womens Doc Martens are cut slender and not bulky for women feet. These are great! Super soft leather, easy to get on and off. As usual with Docs, there is a break-in period. I wore mine around the house for several days. I do have a wide foot, so when I was not wearing them, I used some compacted packing paper to shove into the toe area to stretch them a bit. They now fit great! ... show more

This is my third pair of Docs, and my favorite. The soft leather made them so much easier to break in, and the zipper makes them perfect for quickly slipping on. I love that the zipper is on the outside of the shoe, with inside zippers I sometimes hit them together on my ankles.. not with these!!

What girl doesn't love a good combat-style boot? These pair phenomenally with jeans & a T or a cute dress and floral black tights. There is the expected break-in period, but it was only about a week of moderate use. This footwear is notoriously hard to size, and I agonized over what size to buy. Order your regular size. I wear them with regular socks, but could wear them with heavy socks if it were ever cold enough here. My toes have room to wiggle & do not feel scrunched. The heels rub, but that may be because I wear orthotics, which lift the feet within the shoe slightly higher than most shoes are designed for. The leather is flexible in all the right places & buttery soft. My feet are exactly 10", I ordered a size 9, and wear arch supports from our chiro (which require maybe an extra 1/2 size when I buy shoes). I hate when people just put that they ordered X size & the shoe fits: it's not helpful, so I hope that helps someone. ... show more

I was excited about the option to have a side zipper. But when I received them I didn’t care for how they looked. Not crazy about the pebbled leather look and the style of the lace holes. I returned them and got the standard/classic Docs. They need to make a zippered boot in the classic style. They are a pain to put on but I still love them (my original Docs). ... show more
