  • Game changer
Total game changer. This was helped me continue breastfeeding while working 6/12 hour shifts in a busy Surgery department. I work in healthcare and sometimes breaks aren’t able to happen. I have a below let down, The willow has ensured I’m able to pump every 3 hours and empty every time. I usually pump for 2 cycles, so 50 mins total. The suction hasn’t been a problem for me. I would recommend buying a second charger. Also plan on buying a carrying case for it. It would be awesome if Willow could come out with a padded case. I ended up just buying a compact padded camera/lens bag with 2 compartments. I think every mom should get a willow. I’m able to use it at home and continue to do things around the house. I also love that you can switch between the re usable containers or the spill proof bags. The system is a little expensive but sooooo worth it in my opinion for the continence it offers. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY WILLOW PRODUCTS. They are awful.
Willow 3.0 and Willow Go are both cheap, difficult to use/clean, and not worth the money. I got the Willow Go breast pump through insurance and still had to pay $184.99, which I was fine with because I am a homecare doctor so therefore, I had to have a portable pump when I returned to work. I have been using my pump for 2 months and they have broken twice. My left pumps motor went after 3-4 weeks of use. I have to exclusively pump due to an issue with my son's tongue and since my new motor wasn't coming in the mail for several days I had to drive over an hour to the closest baby store and buy a new pump to use in the meantime. I ended up also buying the Willow 3 online because I thought 'if my Willow Go breaks down again while I am working I am screwed' so I needed another portable pump. That was a mistake and a waste of $439. I immediately had issues with it. For starters, you only get the option to pump into bags with the starter kit. So I had to spend another $50 on a breast milk container. I bought a 21mm because that's what I had successfully been using on my Willow Go. I had nothing but trouble from the first time I used the Willow 3.0. Milk leaking from between the two main parts, the pumps not automatically switching from stimulation to expression (you can't manually do it by the way, horrible design), error codes, limited milk expression. I talked to tech support to see if I could return the pump. Nope. But they did tell me I was probably using the wrong size flange. I complained about all the money I already spent so they sent me a free 19mm attachment, the only positive thing I can say about them. I got my Willow Go motor replacement before the new attachment so I went back to using the Go. Here I am 1 month later, the motor breaks on the Go again. The replacement one the sent just a few weeks prior. Same issue. I have to get ANOTHER replacement motor. So I go back to using the Willow 3.0. I made sure to try it out before going to bed so I knew it would work with the new 19mm flange attachment. The first time I used it everything went well so I thought I was in the clear. But at 2am during a feeding wake up, blinking yellow light again. Another error code. With baby screaming I had to feed him first and then figure out the pumps after. I do a deep clean, which is what is recommended for this error code. You know what is really nice when you have a colic baby, who rarely sleeps more than 2 hours at a time, when you have postpartum depression? Washing a pump you spent almost 500 dollars on and barely used when you should be asleep. It is now 3:10am and I try the Willow 3.0 again because my plug in pump isn't set up. Still get that blinking yellow light. By this point I have had enough so I put my one Willow Go on, pump one side for 20 minutes, then pump the other side after for 20 minutes. I layed down for less than 20 minutes and baby starts screaming again. It's time for another feed. I am in tears by this point. After this feeding I bust out my plug in pump from another brand and pass out. I am so incredibly disappointed with Willow. I tried chatting with someone on their website to express my concerns but they don't have a complaint department. Just a person who works in tech support who will "pass my concerns along to his supervisor". I figured I would write a review on the product on Willow's website but I can't find a way to write one. I have now read multiple reviews outside of the Willow website and have found I am not the only one with these same issues. I understand breast pumps are considered 'one time use' products and for sanitation or whatever reason you can't return them. But when the products are garbage you should be able to get your money back. ... show more

  • Quality, durability, ease
Okay I’ve waited to write my review!!! After I had my baby a nurse at the hospital informed me about the willow breast pump! She told me the price, she told me it’s a learning Curve but she loved them. I gave it some thought and kept plugging the wall breast pump in for a few months when I could. Well I wasn’t keeping up with my baby, I was missing my pump schedule because my schedule was busy! I thought about it and thought about it, i needed something that I could have more ease. I decided to go with the Willow. The willow is a game changer! If you are a mama on the go and you pump every three hours these are for you! I still have my wall breast pump for back up but I mostly use my willow. I work a FT job, and college PT and my daughter is three months old. I wasn’t pumping like I should with the wall pump because I was go go go! I got the willow and was scared because of all the reviews!!! Well there is always going to be bad reviews! I finally have learned my willow and more milk is being stored in my freezer finally! Yes I have had mishaps, but it really helps when you watch the videos and research. I definitely would say buy the reusable containers the bags get too expensive the containers I just pour into my wall breast pump bags and freeze the milk. I ordered my flange sizes to small in the beginning, and you can tell because your nipples are sucked so hard they feel like there going to fall off! But as soon as I ordered the correct size it was fine!!! When I get the error messages I don’t stress out I always check my app and do what it says and I’m up and pumping! It’s an investment but I would take this over a cord anyday. One thing I would change is they need two chargers or one that has two connections... I’ve had to replace one of my Willow’s because it started making a loud noise but the process was so smooth! I never missed a pump with the exchange process. Yes, I’ve spilt a little milk, yes I have flipped the pumps over before changing the one to two and spilling a little milk. Yes I’ve bought the wrong flange sizes, yes I’ve spent money! But it’s worth it! I pack them up and take them every where I go! Does it make my boobs look bigger! At Times yes but they fit under my shirts, or I’ll wear a sweater or jacket to cover. Are they loud? At times yes, I think they are louder with the containers than the actual bags. Can you bend over? With the containers you have to squat, the bags I could do almost everything. I love that the app keeps track of my history. Suction. Well sometimes it’s uncomfortable and the suction maybe a little stronger but after I changed sizes the process was better. ... show more

  • Pretty darn good, little things to improve
Willow was the only reason I was able to keep pumping while round in a NICU without completely disrupting the entire team's workflow. It's not perfect, and it wasn't my full time pump (I think it 95% emptied me) but it was pretty good, and got me more than enough milk plus a freezer full to keep using after I stopped pumping. It's portable. It's leak proof. It's very easy. It definitely did not work for me straight out of the box. I had to play around with 19mm inserts (ouch) before finally realizing that beaugen cushions in the 21mm flange were my magic ticket. And then it was great. I pumped rounding, doing procedures, running resuscitations, in the OR, in the car, on the beach, on planes.... Everywhere. But the bags (which I never once used) are stupidly expensive and the containers have deeply curved edges that are a pain to clean, and the valves can get gunked up. It was hard to tell if flextubes were worn out or I just wasn't getting a good letdown sometimes, and these parts are expensive. It does seem that other pumps last longer. In 10 months I did have to get two replacement sets of hubs through the warranty due to cracks. That's just silly, although it was easy, no questions asked. They really need to figure out what's causing so many people to get these cracks on such an expensive product. I would buy this again. It's not perfect, but once you figure out a system that makes it good enough, it's so liberating and the only reason I was able to continue breastfeeding. ... show more

  • I’m still pumping thanks to Willow!
UPDATE: after pumping for 7 months one of the plastic parts inside my Willow chipped and I was worried I was out a pump. I called their customer service number and they were so extremely helpful and are sending me a replacement pump. It was such a relief for me considering I paid out of pocket for it! I am so happy with my purchase and so thankful for their wonderful customer service!! Original review: I struggle with breastfeeding to begin with and was considering quitting because I hate being connected to tubes and flanges all day. I did a TON of research and was very nervous about this purchase but decided to invest in the Willow. I am so glad I decided to get one and I credit it for me still breastfeeding. Slight negatives- There are learning curves to using this pump but the company provides how to videos on their app that are super helpful! The pump is STRONG! It takes some getting used to. It is HUGE…. I wear a B cup and these make me look, as my husband puts it, like I had really bad plastic surgery. But I don’t care about how I look when using it, and if I’m using it around someone I actually care about I just tell them what it is and they’re totally amazed by it! Positives- I have a hospital grade pump as my primary pump and this honestly is as strong if not stronger! I often get more and out of the willow than I do out of my main pump! I LOVE being able to be hands/tube free and live my life. I use this on the road, while visiting people, out to dinner, walking around Costco… it’s great. I also have both the sealed bags and the reusable containers… both are super helpful depending on the situation I find myself in. Honestly this pump is one of the best purchases I’ve made as a new mom. I would highly recommend it! Good luck out there mama’s! ... show more

  • I wanted to love this pump, but...
2nd update- don't bother if you want to keep your milk supply. Of my three months of breastfeeding journey, I have spent 4 weeks dealing with "Willow Help." You just get passed around and left with $500 worth of equipment that doesn't work. Update- my replacement pumps started malfunctioning after 2 weeks of use. I am now on day 3 of working with customer support a solution. So, in my 3-month breastfeeding journey, 2 sets have failed There are still improvements needed to be made to this pump. WHEN it works properly, it is nice. I will start with pros since this list is shorter: 1) Great to use pump in the car, on the go, or other odd ball places you venture out to. Also nice to have the freedom to chase after one child while pumping and holding infant. Being tied to an outlet sucks. 2) Battery life of pump holds for a day's worth of pumping sessions that are spread out in 3-hr increments. 3) Can use any handbag to store the parts. 4) Can pump one side while breastfeeding on the other. 5) The pump automatically stops after 25 minutes so you don't have to set s timer or keep track of the time (which is nice when you are exhausted and feel like you're constantly attached to a pump). Cons: 1) Pump is not discrete, especially for smaller-framed women. I am a D cup, and these pumps are just as large as my boobs. I have to switch bras when using because they do not fit within my regular breastfeeding bras, and I still have to watch that they don't fall out. Not sure how one could exercise with these things on. They are also not quiet. Hopefully in future generations these pumps will be lighter. 2) The reusable pump parts are sold separately. When you purchase the actual pump, they send you the components to use the storage bags. While making a freezer stash of milk is great, this isn't feasible for every session or in the beginning when you are establishing a milk supply. This means that you must spend another $50+ dollars to obtain the reusable containers and parts...and they recommend you replace parts every 3 months...becoming even more expensive very quickly. 3) There are lots of areas that malfunction and leak during the process. You must use the motor to pump milk from funnel to container when removing from breast. This sometimes does not engage or will leave some milk in the tube. This requires you to tip the containers in 2 different directions, dripping milk everywhere. Even when everything works properly, you will still lose some milk during the transfer. It is this transfer component that I wish Willow would focus on the most for modifications. 4) Difficult to see output as pumping and readjust alignment once a session has started. 5) My pumps malfunctioned after 4 weeks of use. Both of them. Took 2.5 weeks for Willow to get replacement pumps to me. Thankfully, I still had my Medela pump from my previous breastfeeding journey to use as my back up during this time. 6) The app isn't accurate when calculating how much milk is pumped. I find it to overestimate around 0.2 ounces of what is truly in the container. 7) Milk gets trapped behind the sizing inserts creating another leaking point (another component you must spend extra money on if you are not the standard size). 8) Greater learning curve in general when compared to my old pump. ... show more

  • To be improved
I really want to love the Willow 3.0 pump, but I have mixed feelings about it. Bottom line, TLDR: Pros: - Hands-wireless pumping offers freedom to do other things while pumping, e.g. bottle feeding baby, changing baby, laundry etc. - Strong/different suction that could help with clogged ducts in some instances Cons: - the pump itself is expensive, and all the extra pump parts are also expensive - Pump parts not easy to maintain - Not practical for exclusive pumping - Not practical for pumping larger amounts each session unless you have multiple sets of pump parts - Not practical for using in car or outside of home Long story: I am exclusively pumping since my baby’s birth (14 weeks old at the time of this review), starting with 8 pumps per day (ppd) and have gone down to 7 ppd then now 6 ppd. For the past 10 weeks or so, I have been using willow pump for 1-2 sessions per day and use another pump (Spectra S2) for the rest of the sessions. I did not use the Willow pump right from the start, because 1) I was too tired to figure out the complicated steps required to use it, 2) at the time I was pumping small amounts of colostrum and it didn’t make sense for me to use these bags for such small amounts. Hands free and wireless For me, biggest draw and selling point of this pump was being able to multitask while pumping, which is absolutely a big win here. However, note that these pumps are not very discreet (unless you want to look like Pamela Anderson, quoting my friend who is also trying this out) and they are not very quiet. I would not use this out and about, or even in front of my in-laws while they are in the house. Suction For me, the suction felt different from my regular pump. It seemed uncomfortable at first and it took some time getting used to, eventually after a few sessions. However, I often have clogged ducts and I did find that in several instances, the strong and different suction did seem to help clear the clogs. Volume limit The max volume of the containers and bags is only 4 oz each side. For me, personally, that limit is okay for 8 ppd and once I got to 6-7 ppd, it is not enough to empty my breasts sometimes, I can only use it for sessions when I know volumes are lower. The pump will automatically stop pumping once you reach that 4 oz limit, it would require switching out a new bag or container to continue. The process is cumbersome, since it would require you to unlatch, take out the pumps and “flip to finish” and re-latch. With other pumps you might have the option to use larger containers, or simply swap out containers while still latched. Learning curve There definitely is a learning curve. It took me a few sessions to master the “flip to finish” required to get all the milk into the bags or reusable containers so that there is no milk left in the flex tubes. I think new users probably should expect to lose some milk from leaks and mishap in the beginning. The quick start guide and the videos in the Willow app are very helpful and clear but the steps to use it effectively are complicated. Issue 1 (occurred more than once a week ) It is awkward to double pump on both sides. You cannot latch on both sides at once. You have to initiate latch on one side first, once you have one side latched, you have to quickly latch on the other. I have a quick letdown, so if I don’t quickly latch on the second side, often times I get a mess, and the second side becomes hard to latch on as it is wet, often triggering one of those orange blinking light warnings and it would not let you proceed unless you can reattach the flex tube and/or flush the valve with warm water (impossible to do in a car or away from home). I often end up using a 2nd container to continue, crossing my fingers and hoping that I would not run into the same issue with the 2nd one. Issue 2 (occurred at least 4-5 times) I occasionally get the issue with the milk containers not filling to 4 oz but the pump/app says it is. 3-4 minutes into the session, with 1-2 oz in the container, it would say it is full and stop and would not let you continue with same container. Again, I would use a 2nd container to continue, hoping I would not run into the same issues. Cost of parts The pump does not come with the reusable milk containers. They cost another extra $49.99 a pair at the time of this review. In practicality you would need at least two sets. The pump only comes with one pair of flex tubes, so one would need at least one extra pair for practical purposes. Also one of my milk containers already cracked after about 2-3 months of use. Conclusion While innovative and the freedom it offers delightful, the willow pump does not fulfill all my needs as an exclusive pumper who wants to consolidate pumps to fewer pump sessions per day (thus more volume per session), also not as someone who occasionally like to pump on the go in the car. It is hard to justify the costs of the pump and all its parts. The issues I encountered make it unreliable to be used on the go. It seems to have a lot of potential but much is still left to be improved. ... show more

  • Too many problems for what they cost
I have a demanding work schedule and don't have the option of plugging in to pump. I bought the Willows because I had heard good things and figured I'd spend more money now to deal with fewer problems. I didn't want to get a cheaper hands-free option, have a bunch of problems, and then have to buy a more expensive version so that I would end up spending more than what the Willows cost anyway. The Willows work when they work but they aren't consistent and I don't have time to be troubleshooting them as I pump multiple times throughout the day. -About once every other day, I put them on and one or the other gets no milk out, so I spend the 25 minutes that they run before shutting off, go take them off and there's nothing in the bag (I do not struggle with milk production, there is milk available to drain). If you complete a session and then put them back on, you have to change the bag or it gets too full of air. -I rarely get more than 2oz out per side when I am able to get 3+ oz with my plug in Medela. If subtlety is what you're going for, the Willows aren't a good idea for you. You walk around with robotic Dolly Parton boobs. This also just makes them harder to carry around than I expected. And while they're relatively quiet, other people can definitely hear them. -My app has trouble connecting to the pumps almost every time I use it, so I am not able to track how much milk it gets out of each side and I cannot control intensity, start/stop from my phone (you can do this from the pump itself). -Wasteful (and expensive) with the bags, esp as I pump multiple times per day. I tried the reusable containers and they stopped working for me after about 10 pumps (naturally this happened with the first one when I was working a 24 hour shift so I could only pump one side at a time with the working container. After the next wash, the next one stopped working.) I washed them in the top rack of the dishwasher as the instructions said I could Good things: On a full charge, I get about five 25 min pump sessions before having to recharge I have been on hold with customer service for about 10 minutes now hoping to discuss the issues I've been having/get a refund. ... show more
