  • Whynter Portable A/C Product Review
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
I now have two Whynter A/c units. I was so impressed with the purchase in 2024, I purchased a second unit. I knew I would purchase the same brand without a doubt. They are quiet, reliable, efficient, great cooling and easy set up. I like that it is a smart appliance as wherever I am at, I can adjust the settings. ... show more

  • Excellent Cooling Performance and Surprisingly Quiet
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
After researching more than a dozen air conditioners, my partner and I ultimately chose this unit to cool the open kitchen, dining, and living room area of our 900 sq. ft. two-bedroom apartment. Our apartment has a somewhat unique layout. When you enter through the front door, there’s a hallway to the right leading to the bedrooms and bathrooms, while a smaller entryway opens into the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Despite the layout, this A/C has performed exceptionally well. Setup took me about 30 minutes. The instructions were clear, and installation was straightforward. Even though this unit is significantly larger than our previous A/C, it fit the window without any issues. I haven’t had a chance to use the dehumidifier function yet, so I can’t comment on its performance. However, the companion app was easy to connect, and I had it integrated with Alexa in less than 10 minutes. One thing that really impressed me is how quiet this unit is. I’m including a video with this review showing the A/C running at full fan speed while our TV is set to volume 20. Even at maximum output, the noise level is low enough that we can comfortably watch TV, hold conversations, and go about our day without constantly noticing it running. So far, everything has worked seamlessly. The unit is surprisingly quiet, especially considering how powerful it is. We haven’t experienced temperatures above 85°F yet, but it has had no trouble keeping not only the main living area cool but even the spare bedroom comfortable as well. Overall, this A/C has completely exceeded my expectations. It’s powerful, easy to install, simple to control through the app and Alexa, and much quieter than I expected. Based on my experience so far, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to cool a larger apartment or open living space. ... show more

  • Excellent portable AC 😎 powerful, solid, and easy to install
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
I’m very happy with this purchase. The unit arrived packaged extremely well in a sturdy, secure box, and everything felt protected during shipping. The air conditioner itself is solid, well-built, and clearly designed with quality in mind. The instructions were detailed and easy to follow, and the installation kit was straightforward and simple to understand. Setup was much easier than I expected. The cord length is also good, which made placement more convenient. Most importantly, this is one of the most effective cooling units I’ve ever owned. It feels robust, puts out a strong and steady breeze, and cools the room down very effectively. Based on its performance so far, I feel confident that it will keep the room comfortable throughout the summer. Drainage has not been an issue for me. Since I live in the Northeast and mainly plan to use it for cooling rather than as a dehumidifier, I do not expect to need the drainage tube often, if at all. The price point was also very reasonable for the quality, features, and performance. Overall, I would highly recommend this air conditioner. I’m very glad I bought it and would absolutely purchase it again. ... show more

  • Well designed,Well executed....
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
It runs continually and thats a good thing. Set the temp once and let the electronics use the variable speed compressor to control the actual room temp. It works and it works well. It is 100F right now and I'm cooling the kitchen ,living room and breakfast nook with no problem. I love the two hose into one concept. Makes installation easy. They supply more than enough adapters, sticky foam, etc to make the installation simple. Couldnt be more happy. ... show more

  • Extremely Quiet Consendor - Great Cooling - Be Ready to Cut the Window Kit's Extension Panel
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
Noise Level: I'm most impressed with how quiet the compressor is on this unit. I'm used to the older tech where every time the compressor turns on, it makes this really loud BOOONNNNNNGGG / humming noise. Traditionally, the compressor has been the source of most of the noise coming from the unit. With this Whynter unit, you barely notice the compressor has engaged as it only makes a slight, high-pitched noise. All the noise (which can be considerable) comes from the speed of the fan BUT, you can control that to your preference. I leave my unit on auto and it rarely runs at high fan speed but YMMV depending on your situation. Cooling Performance: Cooling is much more efficient with the dual hose design. My old unit with a single hose was running more often to keep the room cool and I believe this is specifically due to the dual hose design. If anything, this unit tends to cool my room TOO much and I've been trying to strike the right balance, which for me has been 73 full auto with "i sense" enabled. I'll discuss "i sense" in the physical remote section below. Features: I would say this product is fully loaded with all the features you want and some extras too. I am not using the wireless app to control the device but, it does have some app-unique features such as setting schedules, check function (which is a self-diagnosis test for the health of the machine), boost mode (max cool / max fan speed), express run (this is where you can program and activate a specific mode, temp, and fan speed with 1 button), and of course, the convenience of controlling the unit remotely. Physical Remote: the physical remote is simple and easy to use but, it's range is finicky which is the only negative thing I have to say about this unit overall. For example, on the remote, there is a button labeled "i sense" which uses the remote as a temperature sensor / thermostat. This is a feature I have on my old unit, and I was glad to see it included with this Whynter unit. The way it works is that the remote reports back its temperature sensor reading every 3 minutes back to the main unit which reacts appropriately. The key here is making sure the remote has a clear line of sight to the main unit and isn't too far away. Max range of the remote is 8 meters / 26 feet and the remote needs to be pointing DIRECTLY at the main unit. I've found that it's very easy for the remote to fall out of communication with the main unit so, I test by placing the remote where I want it to sit and then hitting the temp up or down button to make sure the main unit reacts. It's quite sensitive to line-of-sight issues so, test communication thoroughly when relying on "i sense." If the remote cannot communicate with the main unit after 7 minutes, "i sense" automatically disengages. At least there is a small icon on the remote (which is shaped like generic person’s head and shoulders) indicating the feature is active. Window Kit: The unit comes with a VERY large set of panels for window installation. I have a 36 inch wide window which was the perfect, wrong size. My window was too big for only using the panel with the cutout for the dual hose so, I added the extension panel. But the extension panel was too big as it covered 70% of the exhaust cutout when fully ended on a 36 inch wide window. I read the manual and it said to cut the extension panel to size…which I easily did using a circular saw after measuring. You will need to be prepared to cut the extension panel to size if your window width is larger than 28 ½ inches but smaller than 42 inches. This is a VERY common range for window sizes so, be prepared to cut the extension panel. Overall: I love this air conditioner and can attest to the increased efficiency of the dual-hose design. It cools very well and operates well by setting a temp and then using the auto features. Worth the extra cash money for the quiet compressor / dual-hose design. ... show more

  • Incredible cooling and actually quiet, but it is a absolute beast to move!
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
I bought this Whynter ARC-1230WN to cool down mjy 850 sq ft apartment for the summer afternoon sun. I am incredibly impressed with how well this thing performs. What I like: Real Inverter Cooling: Unlike my old portable AC that constantly clicked loudly on and off all night, this one just adjusts its speed smoothly. Once the room hits 72 degrees, it drops into a low, steady hum that easily fades into the background. Dual-Hose Efficiency: The hose-in-hose design is brilliant. It cools the room down in about 20 minutes flat without creating that weird negative pressure that sucks hot air from the rest of the house under the door. Smart App Integration: Setting up the NetHome Plus app took less than five minutes. I love being able to turn it on from my phone on my drive home from work so the bedroom is ice cold by the time I get there. ... show more

  • 3 Year Review
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
I like a nice cold bedroom to fall asleep in, but didn't want to cool my entire house to 68 degrees - that would be too cold, and on a 95 degree day, cost a small fortune and probably wear out my central air unit a lot faster. Going on my 3rd summer with this unit in my master bedroom and it still works great - Whynter has solved a lot of the issues these floor standing units used to have such as: It never needs emptied - it evaporates all of the condensed water back outside. I've unplugged it to empty whatever water was left at the end of each season, and there's not a drop to drain out. It has also never accumulated any ice inside as a result, even on really humid days. Intake and exhaust - doesn't suck in cold air and exhaust it outside, which makes it more efficient and faster to cool a room down. Inverter technology - regardless of what temperature you set them, traditional AC's have only two modes of operation. OFF and ON. These new inverter units can run at many stages of being on, from 0% to 100% and in between, making it more efficient, and less stressful on the internal parts - aka it saves money and prolongs durability (in theory, at least). I find it also makes it quite a bit quieter since it can just throttle on a little bit as needed to keep a room once at set temp. Bonus - it's smart. The app works well although it takes a little getting used to. Using the app, I set it to run on a smart curve cycle. At 8pm it turns on and starts cooling the room and stays cold through the night. In the early morning, it starts to step up a couple degrees every hour, then turns off until the following evening. Every day, all by itself. Cons The bracket is pretty minimalistic and you will probably have to cut it if you have a window opening less than 3 feet wide or so. It does look more attractive than a big AC sticking out of your window, it mounts into the track your window rides in - so you can still close the screen and keep bugs from getting in. It has wheels but it is heavy. Have fun getting it up the stairs, lol ... show more

  • The best portable AC I've used, just had to duct tape the seal
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Cooling Only Pattern: Air Conditioner
I previously had used an LG-LP1419IVSM for 4 years, got it right around the time when dual hoses just barely started to show up and it was used heavily the entire 4 years to beat out southern USA heat until it finally displayed a CH38 (refrigerant) error and their support was unacceptably bad, anyways, this Whynter ARC-1230WN 14,000 BTU unit so far seems to be better in every way. Still relatively early to gauge energy use but it seems to be more efficient, at worst it's costing the same amount on the electricity bill but cooling the room much more easily, the hose of the previous would constantly feel warm/hot and this always feels like room temperature or so. The filter is a single piece (instead of the 4 pieces of the previous AC mentioned) so it's very easy to maintain. Connecting the hose to the window piece is a bit more difficult, and has a few tiny openings where light (and bugs) could get through, so I had to duct tape around the end of the hose to feel like it's more properly sealed, and the shape of the end of the hose has some variation to it which makes it a bit difficult to duct tape, but that's a simple fix and I haven't seen any obvious sign of insects yet. I assume those openings are too small so in terms of cooling it's probably a negligible difference. Also I had to cut the piece down to fit my window, which is mentioned in the instructions and luckily wasn't too difficult for me, but does make it less accessible for any who doesn't have a window which matches the size of the included parts. Once everything was set up, I've got no issues with it, it cools well for what I need, it's easy to maintain, it seems to be efficient on energy, it costed less than my previous portable AC, it's not very loud and I'm used to idle noise so the noise it makes isn't disturbing to me. If it had that slight hose issue fixed then I think it seems to be the best a portable AC can be currently, I'd recommend it. ... show more
