After researching more than a dozen air conditioners, my partner and I ultimately chose this unit to cool the open kitchen, dining, and living room area of our 900 sq. ft. two-bedroom apartment. Our apartment has a somewhat unique layout. When you enter through the front door, there’s a hallway to the right leading to the bedrooms and bathrooms, while a smaller entryway opens into the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Despite the layout, this A/C has performed exceptionally well. Setup took me about 30 minutes. The instructions were clear, and installation was straightforward. Even though this unit is significantly larger than our previous A/C, it fit the window without any issues. I haven’t had a chance to use the dehumidifier function yet, so I can’t comment on its performance. However, the companion app was easy to connect, and I had it integrated with Alexa in less than 10 minutes. One thing that really impressed me is how quiet this unit is. I’m including a video with this review showing the A/C running at full fan speed while our TV is set to volume 20. Even at maximum output, the noise level is low enough that we can comfortably watch TV, hold conversations, and go about our day without constantly noticing it running. So far, everything has worked seamlessly. The unit is surprisingly quiet, especially considering how powerful it is. We haven’t experienced temperatures above 85°F yet, but it has had no trouble keeping not only the main living area cool but even the spare bedroom comfortable as well. Overall, this A/C has completely exceeded my expectations. It’s powerful, easy to install, simple to control through the app and Alexa, and much quieter than I expected. This AC unit works GREAT!!! The phrase "you get what you pay for" certainly applies to this AC unit!... meaning... I know this unit is on the higher end for price when it comes to AC units, but man does this thing perform! Sure we could have gotten a different unit for probably half the price but I read way too many reviews of those units having too many issues and not performing to expectation. We bought this unit for our master bedroom which is around 250-300 square feet. Unfortunately in our hot Colorado summer days our master bedroom that is located on the 2nd level of our home just doesn't cool down the way we would like with our home's built in AC. Beacuse of this beast AC unit by Whynter we can finally cool our master bedroom down to sleep cool and comfortably. It is really quiet for the amount of cool air it puts out, basically putting out white noise which we love and helps us sleep, and has tons of functionalities. Don't even look for another AC unit besides this one... trust me! You won't be disappointed! ... show more

I like a nice cold bedroom to fall asleep in, but didn't want to cool my entire house to 68 degrees - that would be too cold, and on a 95 degree day, cost a small fortune and probably wear out my central air unit a lot faster. Going on my 3rd summer with this unit in my master bedroom and it still works great - Whynter has solved a lot of the issues these floor standing units used to have such as: It never needs emptied - it evaporates all of the condensed water back outside. I've unplugged it to empty whatever water was left at the end of each season, and there's not a drop to drain out. It has also never accumulated any ice inside as a result, even on really humid days. Intake and exhaust - doesn't suck in cold air and exhaust it outside, which makes it more efficient and faster to cool a room down. Inverter technology - regardless of what temperature you set them, traditional AC's have only two modes of operation. OFF and ON. These new inverter units can run at many stages of being on, from 0% to 100% and in between, making it more efficient, and less stressful on the internal parts - aka it saves money and prolongs durability (in theory, at least). I find it also makes it quite a bit quieter since it can just throttle on a little bit as needed to keep a room once at set temp. Bonus - it's smart. The app works well although it takes a little getting used to. Using the app, I set it to run on a smart curve cycle. At 8pm it turns on and starts cooling the room and stays cold through the night. In the early morning, it starts to step up a couple degrees every hour, then turns off until the following evening. Every day, all by itself. Cons The bracket is pretty minimalistic and you will probably have to cut it if you have a window opening less than 3 feet wide or so. It does look more attractive than a big AC sticking out of your window, it mounts into the track your window rides in - so you can still close the screen and keep bugs from getting in. It has wheels but it is heavy. Have fun getting it up the stairs, lol ... show more

Wow! This thing is amazing! I purchased a portable A/C no name brand on Amazon and it could not get my bedroom cold. I just received this Arc-1230 and oh man does this thing work great and gets my room cold right out of the box. It’s actually really quiet. I was going to give this 5 stars but the plastic clips on the hole are very brittle. I felt like I was going to break the clips when I snapped them in. It also had some gaps but I taped it together. It’s a shame to have an awesome A/C unit with cheap plastic clips. I would highly recommend this model tho! ... show more

It delivers exceptional cooling ability and really great features. I love the smart functionality of this unit. The companion app connects via WiFi and lets you control everything remotely. It gives you the ability to turn the AC on from your phone, which is perfect for pre-cooling a scorching hot garage or workshop before you even head out there. And since it uses an inverter compressor, you will see a notable difference in your energy bill because it doesn't just blast on and off—it smartly scales power down once it reaches your target temp. Coming to the cooling performance itself, it works remarkably well. It effortlessly pushes cold air across a large 600-square foot room, and the dual-hose setup means you aren't fighting negative air pressure. While the fan is definitely audible when running at absolute maximum speed to cool a hot room, it gets exceptionally quiet once the room has reached the target temperature. It makes your life so much easier because it burns off the moisture internally, meaning you rarely ever have to bother with emptying a dripping water tray. My only pet-peeve is the overall weight and bulk. It tips the scales around 80 pounds, so lugging it up a flight of stairs is absolutely a two-person job. But given how effectively it beats the summer heat and how efficiently it runs on lower power, I am absolutely thrilled with the investment. I bought this Whynter ARC-1230WN to cool down mjy 850 sq ft apartment for the summer afternoon sun. I am incredibly impressed with how well this thing performs. What I like: Real Inverter Cooling: Unlike my old portable AC that constantly clicked loudly on and off all night, this one just adjusts its speed smoothly. Once the room hits 72 degrees, it drops into a low, steady hum that easily fades into the background. Dual-Hose Efficiency: The hose-in-hose design is brilliant. It cools the room down in about 20 minutes flat without creating that weird negative pressure that sucks hot air from the rest of the house under the door. Smart App Integration: Setting up the NetHome Plus app took less than five minutes. I needed to replace my window AC and wanted something more manageable as I age. I decided to purchase a portable dual hose AC and chose to go with the Whynter ARC model. I've been using it for four days now and it does an excellent job cooling the desired space. Although installation was relatively easy, the directions were less than helpful. One of the problems I encountered with the directions is the drain hose. I think that the directions should make it clear that water is expelled from the AC unit and some type of bucket is needed to catch the water otherwise it will drain on your floor. The other problem I encountered is the opening of the hose is totally expose to the outside so when it rains water will leak into the unit. I already experience that problem and have attempted to prevent rain from coming into the unit by building and installing a plastic roof over the opening. I think that will work. Otherwise the unit seem to be well build and works well. Time will tell. ... show more
