I am very pleased with this unit. It moves a lot of air. I tried a smaller unit and returned it before I invested in this one. It cools for the square footage that it is advertised to work. I am using it in a room that is approximately 450 square feet. It is reducing the temperature in the room on a 95 degree day and holding that temperature at 70 degrees. As a rule of thumb an air conditioner works if it is able to hold the temperature between 25 and 30 degrees. This one is actually lowering the temperature while working against the growing outside heat. The unit is extremely quiet. I have to check to make sure it is still running because I can't hear it. The only noise it makes is when it initially starts. I love the inverter tech on this unit. I hope this will keep my bills down. The controls are intuitive. I have not connected it to the wifi smart ap, nor my home assistant (I use Alexa) I really like the hose-in-hose design. I have one complaint with the unit. I am venting through a sliding window on the vertical. The adapter fitting for vertical installation is hard to use, and there are gaps in the adapter. I improvised with some painter's tape in covering those gaps. This approach is effective, but it is also unsightly. this does not apply for horizontal venting. This unit is attractive other than the gaps in the adapter plate. Even though I do have mild criticisms for this design flaw, I really love the unit and how effectively it works. Considering how portable AC units used to be very inefficient this unit shows how far the technology has evolved. ... show more

The Whynter ARC-1230WN portable air conditioner delivers impressive performance and a strong feature set, making it one of the best options I’ve tested in the 12,000 BTU (SACC) range. Rated at 14,000 BTU (ASHRAE), this unit effectively cools rooms up to 600 square feet and does so faster than many of its competitors thanks to its dual-hose “hose-in-hose” design. It also dehumidifies and circulates air well, offering a three-in-one solution for hot, muggy spaces. The added bonus of smart Wi-Fi connectivity—compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home—makes operation intuitive and flexible, especially when used through the NetHome Plus app. In terms of real-world performance, the ARC-1230WN impressed me by lowering room temperatures by nearly 12°F within an hour, a result that outperformed popular models like the Black+Decker BPACT14WT. The inverter compressor not only helps achieve rapid cooling but also keeps energy usage relatively moderate at about 1.293 kWh per hour during heavy operation. While it’s not the absolute most efficient unit available, it certainly holds its own in the premium category and justifies the power draw with its cooling speed and stability. What really sets this model apart is its remarkably quiet operation. On high fan mode, it registered just 58.4 dBA at a distance of four feet, which is notably low for a unit of this size and power.     • My unit failed after manufacturer warranty ended - WHYNTER replaced it anyway

This is an odd 5 star review for me. I own 2 of these units, purchased around the same time. One still going strong, no issues. This unit worked flawlessly for a year, then it gave us the strange error code "EL OC". I have owned other portable air conditioners but will never again buy any other type but this inverter style from Whynter, even after the failure. Some research showed that this code is universal for all home AC type products, from window units to mini splits to these portable units. It means "out of refrigerant". Apparently there was a coolant leak into the water chamber. When I was draining water from the unit (I thought that's what it was), it was the system's coolant. I had purchased the unit a year and 2 months earlier. Whynter offers a 1 year warranty. I reached out to their support and connected with Jose, who works for their Santa Ana CA office. Given this unit costs $550 new, I figured it was worth a try to ship it back to them for repair - cost on me since it was out of warranty. Without me asking, pushing, or complaining at all, Jose's first reply back on resolution for repair was to give me a one time warranty extension to the end of the month, so I only had to cover the cost of shipping and they would handle repair or replacement free of charge, whichever was necessary. Furthermore, after repair or replacement I would receive a warranty extension for the repaired/new unit for one year. Incredible. But that was only the beginning of the pleasant surprises working with Whynter. They send you a detailed but easy to read set of instructions for return shipment. They link a replacement shipping box from Home Depot that fits the unit snug. They explain what packing materials to use to ensure damage won't occur. They even have a discounted shipping estimate link set up for you to use with UPS as a Whynter shipping special, unless you can find cheaper elsewhere. They cover all your bases to make the process painless. But, painless isn't good enough for Whynter. So when I emailed them back with the shipping weight of my boxed sealed unit (85 lb), they responded that they have some other options and would like a quick call. We connected the next day, and Jose explained that if I wish, they are waiving my requirement to ship the unit at all, and offering a free replacement of the same unit if I am willing to pay $75 for shipping to me. No shipping my unit back, it is mine to keep and discard whenever I wish. And of course my new unit would be under warranty for a year. Needless to say, I shipped them a check first class, and about a week later, I have a brand new replacement QC'd by their Santa Ana team and on its way to my door stop tomorrow. Oh, and this whole process? Jose would respond by email in an average of 30 minutes after my messages. Excellent doesn't begin to describe this company. Yes, there are other similar companies offering the same style of unit for less money. What you get with Whynter is best-in-class of the entire industry service. No other company, Midea or whoever is selling budget appliances in this field, can compete with how Whynter takes care of customers. They made a customer for life out of me. Thanks Jose and Whynter for going above and beyond any expectation I had for a unit no longer under your warranty, and without me asking for any special treatment from you. I don't know that many companies in any industry around the world strive as hard as you do to take care of your customers. It makes purchasing with you a no brainer, I hope Whynter continues to be recognized and receive accolades for this much effort and expense to be the very best. ... show more
