  • Served it's purpose preventing bathroom mold and mildew with healthy humidity level
I bought this about five months ago and have been using it continuously ever since. My boyfriend and I live in an older home and so things like bathroom fans just really aren't up to par. Our master bathroom (only calling it that because it's the bathroom off of our master bedroom...haha) Doesn't even HAVE a fan. I lived with him for about a year and was constantly struggling to keep the bathroom mold and mildew free. I knew it was unhealthy to be around but I couldn't for the life of me prevent it with typical cleaning products. I started reading more about the subject in general and what humidity percentage an area should be kept at to be in a "healthy" range and prevent those two gross little culprits. I realized that our only REAL option was to buy some kind of dehumidifier and thus began my search. When I buy things off amazon (ALL THE TIME <3 ) I scower products and reviews, pouring over reviews until I find something I feel confident in buying as well as satisfied for what I should* be getting for the set price. Obviously, this is the one I chose. I can say that I absolutely do love it and am thankful for it all the time, and now for a few notes: -There is a low humming sound but it's really not loud at all and not an annoying pitch so it's actually kind of calming in a sense if you like background noise sometimes..I can BARELY hear it from bed but it still helps me fall asleep. -LITERALLY no more struggle with mold and mildew. I still clean the bathroom regularly of course but now it's just standard cleaning and not at all comparable to the chemically potent scrubbing I did before. -It's small enough that we just keep it on the back of the toilet and it takes up maybe a third of that space, not bothersome at all. -It's super easy to maintain being that you can easily remove the reservoir (automatic shut off when full) dump it, slide it back in (clicks in place) and then flip the switch on again. -When we shower the bathroom humidity could easily reach the 90's (I bought the AcuRite 00613A1 Indoor Humidity Monitor to see how well this little guy was working) within a half hour of showering the humidity will be back down to low eighties, another half hour in the seventies, and then it goes at a faster rate after that-keeping our bathroom at about 40-60% humidity when not being showered in. Please note that we live in Georgia currently and these last months we've had says in the 20's and others in the 80's so the relative humidity effect s what it actually should be inside. Point being that this dehumidifier has served it's purpose perfectly by preventing mold and mildew and keeping our bathroom/bedroom at a healthy humidity level. (I saw bedroom too because the spillover from the bathroom no longer affects the bedroom) As far as I'm conerned, for the purpose I bought it for and the price point I think this product is awesome and I have no cons to write about it. Hope this helps! AcuRite 00613A1 Indoor Humidity Monitor ... show more

  • Good little machine, requires reasonable expectations
These are good little machines. I use them in my closets and the bathroom. Understand they do not make a room bone-dry and I see people complaining that they have wet walls and glass and "it's not working" but you have to understand that if the moisture is not already in the air this little puppy is not going to get it off dripping wet surfaces like glass, shower curtains and cold tile. Cold air will not hold moisture. It's important to keep cold surfaces warm -- such as glass and tile and to encourage the air to circulate. This little machine is not going to suck streaming water off ice cold tile across the room. Warm up your bathroom surfaces before showering and use a little fan to help move the air around and this little guy will keep the moisture below 50% over time. Also empty it very frequently. It works better and why let standing water sit around in the machine when it's very easy to empty. ... show more

  • Small and Efficient
I've only had a few days but it seems to work well. Compact size, pulling a lot of water out of the air but it's noisy. I placed it in the bathroom so it's not disturbing my son while he sleeps, but I probably wouldn't place it in a bedroom if anyone is a light sleeper. It does the job well so far.

  • works for me
I had a condensation problem in my RV. One of the RV websites said to get one or two small dehumidifiers, so I checked around and found this one on Amazon. Received the product and have had it almost two months now and it works great. Condensation (the enemy of RVs and contents) has been greatly reduced. Here's my observations on what worked for me. Don't expect it to take the moisture out of the air as soon as it happens, that's just not realistic. If you want that you need to spend the $$ and get a big noisy unit. This little guy works on the slow but steady plan and can get overwhelmed at times but eventually catches up. I have to drain the reservoir in mine every day or at most every two days. Mine runs 24/7 unless there's a nice day and I can open up everything. Sometimes while cooking when the outside temp drops quickly I get condensation on the windows but in a few hours it's usually gone. Keeping drapes and blinds open makes an obvious difference. Placement of the unit is critical. I experimented and found that if you put it in a corner it is not going to work well. My RV's kitchen is in the middle and I have it on the kitchen counter out from the wall in roughly the middle of the RV. Is it in the way? Sometimes, but it's doing the job and that's the measure of success. Sometimes I have to move it when there's lots of kitchen work but I put it back as soon as I can. It does make a big difference. I've read that sometimes 2 units are necessary and I will probably add a second one (30' RV w/slider) because while the condensation in the front bedroom & rear bath is reduced, there is still more condensation there than in the middle (main) room. Another thing I do is keep the closet/cabinet doors that were the biggest condensation offenders open which is sometimes a pain. But condensation in my book/DVD storage cabinets and in closets is not good. Before I bought the dehumidifier I discovered the condensation in damp books and found a couple of mold spots on my favorite leather jacket. I cleaned it, put it right back in the same closet and now it stays dry 24/7. If you want to keep the cabinet/closet doors closed all the time even a big noisy dehumidifier isn't going to solve your problem. If the dehumidifier can't access the air in a closed cabinet/closet, it can't dehumidify it. That's just life in an RV. I noted some complaints about the noise, however I found the unit to be reasonably quiet. That's probably a personal thing, some people just don't want any noise at all but this unit is quiet for me, just a very quiet background fan sound. There may be large production variations on an item like this. It is made in China with cheap parts and labor costs and product uniformity suffers from that. I also noted some comments about longevity but I'll have to edit my remarks if the unit quits too early. So far I am very pleased with this unit. I'm OK trading some inconvenience in return for getting rid of a nasty problem. ... show more
