I loved the drama almost as much as I loved the s*x. If you’re looking for a strong MMC that’s not afraid to show vulnerability then this is definitely a book I recommend reading.

What Was Meant To Be was an enjoyable and angsty taboo romance book. It is dual POVs of the main characters (Jacob Price and Whitney Monroe) and has some great tropes like: an age gap, father’s best friend, godfather/goddaughter, a second chance and a forbidden romance. Also, there is cheating in this book but it does not occur between the main characters. I would highly recommend though, checking the other content and trigger warnings before reading. The overall premise was quite enjoyable; there were some heartbreaking, angsty, amusing, and heartfelt moments. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I really liked the forbidden/taboo aspect in this book as well. I will say though, there were a few subplots that could have been further explored upon. The romance between Jacob and Whitney was very spicy. I loved how devoted and obsessed Jacob was with her even after their 3 year separation. The tension and chemistry between them was off the charts. Again, the spice was definitely the main highlight of this book; just so intense, hot and kinky. There were also snippets of Jacob and Whitney’s relationship in the past throughout the story, which I also really appreciated. Being able to read some of their history and how much they meant to each other made their romance more intense. However, their present relationship did feel mainly physical at times. So I would have liked just a bit more relationship building in the present or more moments that showed them getting to re-know each other again after their separation. Their secret relationship and how it was exposed was unfortunate, Whitney’s ex-fiancé was absolutely horrible for what he did. The ending and last few chapters were quite rushed and resolved a bit too quickly, but the epilogue was really sweet. Overall, just a very fun and steamy read.

Did I read this book in one go? Yes. Am I currently a puddle of feelings over Whitney and JP? Also yes. I tried SO HARD not to binge this all at once, but like all of QB’s other books I just couldn’t make myself stop. Full review to come, just know you’re only plans on November 10th should be to read this book!! Updating to add: 1. If this is your first QB Tyler book, buckle up buttercup. You’re about to fall down the rabbit hole that is her backlist of sinfully sexy taboo stories (sprinkled with a couple not taboo but no less sexy / angsty) 2. In case you were wondering, I’M STILL A PUDDLE OF FEELINGS The love Whitney and JP have for each other even after how much time had passed gives me all the warm fuzzy heart feelings. I really loved seeing the flashback scenes to when they were sneaking around years before. 🫶🏻 and the present day sneaking around… 🔥 The back and forth of will they/won’t they (which we all knew was a matter of WHEN and not IF), their banter, chemistry, dynamic, and the constant fear of them getting caught before they could come clean on their own…. it’s really no surprise I couldn’t stop reading. My heart was pounding for the last 25% just waiting for the shoe to drop. Not a single thing played out how I expected even though I’ve been reading QB’s books for years. It takes a special kind of talent to have as many books as she does and still be able to surprise her readers. I could ramble on and on about how much I loved this book and all the reasons why, but I’ll end with this: if you love taboo stories, you’ll love What Was Meant To Be. It has age gap, parents best friend/godfather, daddy kink, and second chance romance 💕

I Fell In Love With Taboo Reads, Just Not This One

🛑SPOILERS🛑 ⭐️: 2.75/5 I just want to say this book started off with a bang and I literally got to 50% in oneday. However, sooner than later the book lost its momentum 🤷🏾♀️. First, I didn't see or feel any chemistry between Jacob or Whitney. It seemed forced and there scenes didn't send a spark within me as a reader or there sexual scenes. Second, when they saw each other after three years it wasn't anything memorable or a moment when everything standstills it was just they saw each other and then came the emotional and sexual tension 😕. My biggest issues was not seeing enough of there past. I had an issue in QB Tyler's book Forget Me Not when the past was discussed so much, but there was no scenes regarding it. I don't know if she wants to keep the book short and sweet which I understand or she has a hard time including scenes that examine a then and now situation. Even Whitney's fiance storyline was lackluster and didn't hold much weight. To be honest the cheating I didn't care about because he was no saint. Not to mention he was just unlikable. When Jacob confronted him I thought the scene was going to be more indepth and he would get his karma, but he didn't. I can say the scene when her family found out was amazing, but after that it was rushed. I was glad for them to get there happily ever after, but it was just cut to the chase. I am thankful this book pulled me out of a bad book slump I was in. But, QB Tyler has great plot and stories to tell. However, I just think she has a hard time at articulating them. This book was not filled with sex scenes and I was thankful for that, but that showed me she has a hard time writing dialogue between two charaters when it doesn't revolve around sex. I will continue to read her books just to see them progress and I always recommend people to read books even if I wasn't the biggest fan of them. This just wasn't my greatest read eventhough I had high hopes.

What a wild ride!

Q.B. Tyler, unsurprisingly, did it again! This boo blends the taböo and delicious perfectly! It’s a gift she has of making it all make sense when there should be NO clarity and HEA, she makes it happen. Bravo! This book was full of taböo situations that SHOULD have come off salacious but ended up sweet. Jacob and Whitney are couple goals. The chemistry and stëam levels were off the chain hot AF! Packed so full of yummy scenes I was guaranteed something to make me fan myself VERY frequently throughout the story AND still had story! Usually it’s either straight smüt, which I LOVE, or story with a little…whelp, as always with W.B., this had it all wrapped in one juicy story. I tried to listen and read but once I started it was hard to stop and wait to be in my car to listen as o was fully immersed in the story from page one. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of one of the narrators unfortunately. J.F. Harding always brings the heat and passion to his reading but I couldn’t get into Juniper Young for this role. Just don’t mess well for me. All in all, loved this book from page one and I love how I can always come back to this author and not be disappointed.

A Timeless Love Story

Whitney and Jacob have grown up knowing each other as part of the same family, essentially. Jacob, also known as JP, is the best friend of Whitney's father and also Whitney's God father. However as she gets older and starts to realize what she wants, Jacob is in her sights. Without giving away too many details this book will cover the initial two year relationship they had (in secret) and the break-up that nearly ended them both. But even more time has passed and Whitney finally forced herself to move on from Jacob and is engaged. “Yes, Mason. I am insane. I let the woman I love slip right through my fingers. I want her back and I want her back now.” This is really where the majority of the book picks up and stays focused. Jacob hears about Whitney's engagement and returns to win her back, acknowledging that she's the MOST important thing to him and they need each other. But they will face a lot of hurdles 1. Whitney is ENGAGED 2. They have to reveal their relationship and past to everyone 3. Whether or not they can overcome their past This book was absolutely stunning in it's ability to portray such a difficult situation and all the emotions from every angle that really held me in. There are a few scenes that were physically painful to read. Watching a family experience sorrow and betrayal had my stomach clenching in angst as if I was the one there experiencing it. "The love has changed and morphed into different kinds of love but you’ve always been here from the second you entered the world.” On top of all the emotions this book is filled with, I also adored the one-on-one time with Whitney and Jacob. They are amazing together in ways that I was hoping for, but never expected to see. They compliment each other perfectly and their love is timeless.

Q. B. Tyler is and will always be my go to for insanely hot taboo romance. And this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Five chili peppers and five stars. The history between the mmc and his friends feels real and deep, genuine in a way many authors can’t quite evoke. I adore the relationship the fmc has with her family, but most especially with her protective big brother and cousin, who were the ones to support her in the darkest times of her life. The spice is absolutely top tier, but fair warning if you’re not into pegging. It only happens once and it is ✨Perfection✨, but I wouldn’t want anyone to stumble across it accidentally if it isn't to your taste. On that same note, this book does contain infidelity, though not between the mains. The angst is deliciously painful, the spice is ✨chef’s kiss✨ and the author does not shy away from the not-so-nice implications of the mcs’ taboo relationship. All in all, another fantastic read from an author who has yet to disappoint me.

JP and Whitney's parents have been best friends since college. Whitney and her brother Mason are JP's godchildren. JP and Whitney got together when she was grown and started a two-year affair where they profess their love for one another. After making the tough decision to not reveal their affair to his best friends, JP breaks up with Whitney, and goes to Mexico for three years on a medical assignment. Leaving Whitney behind to nurse a broken heart, JP tries to unsuccessfully forget about her and move on. When he finds out that Whitney is engaged, JP heads back home to get back the woman he never stopped loving. Determined to not be swayed by JP, Whitney is doing her best to ignore the chemistry between them. Denying that she still loves him gets harder by the day, until she finally can. That's when all the fireworks really start. The heat between JP and Whitney is even hotter since their breakup, and I loved it all! The narration by J.F. Harding and Juniper Young was great. J.F. is one of my favorite narrators and his portrayal of JP was awesome. QB Tyler wrote a very thought-provoking and very steamy tale.
