This tool is dangerously faulty. When plugging it in for the fisrt time with the switch in the off position it started up. Turned switch on and off repeatedly until it eventually shut off. In disbelief, I turned it on a couple more times to see if it would shut off on the first try and it did not.

    • A sensible angle grinder.
The WESCO 4 ½” Angle Grinder is an uncomplicated tool with an uncomplicated purpose. It is an electric, handheld angle grinder designed to cut, grind and deburr during metal work/fabrication. More advanced uses (to me at least) involve the cutting of pavers or tile. Finally, the skilled user will use it to polish and sharpen. The WESCO comes with three metal grinding discs; other sorts of discs will need to be picked up wherever you choose to buy such things. Like many tools, this one comes with a long list of safety precautions, all spelled out in the manual. Read it and obey, earthling! A grinding tool used unsafely can absolutely injury you or others. Speaking of the manual, I did find it formatted in a wonky way. The diagram legend is buried at the back of the manual, while the diagram is the lead page. I’m splitting hairs, I know… This unit draws 6 amps, and has a spin rate of 11,000, both of which are enough to easily satisfy what’s needed for home projects, and maybe even for the handyman. It weighs a tick under four pounds, which is sensible. Assembling the wheel guard and installing your grinding disc is a snap. The WESCO came with a handy spanner for tightening the flange that secures the grinding disc; it was done in seconds. While I haven’t used it beyond a sample shake down cruise in my garage, this WESCO 6.0A 4 ½” grinder has all the sensible attributes I needed for a cost-conscience electric angle grinder in a (mostly) residential setting. ... show more

    • Great value for the price!
This is my first angle grinder. I've always wanted one but since I don't need one all that often I simply couldn't justify the price tag for the brand name tools. This grinder is pretty simple: Standard 5/8" arbor with integral support for 7/8" cutting/grinding discs. The tool is your standard brush-type motor, gear box with spindle lock, adjustable 180 degree safety guard, and a handle that can be moved to either side of the spindle. Also included are a tool to tighten the arbor and 3 60 grit metal grinding discs. Unlike some other models there's no handle attachment point opposite the spindle which makes using this as a cutting tool a little more awkward than it should be. The safety guard uses a screw instead of a quick release so needs a screwdriver for adjustment. The power switch is a slide switch with integrated lock that's located in an awkward place on the left side. I'm a bit leery of the integrated lock on these sorts of tools since I want them to shut down if they get away from me, but because of the awkward location you almost have to use the lock. I would have vastly preferred the trigger to be on the back of the unit. With these sorts of tools proper PPE is essential. Goggles for eye protection (a face shield is better!), heavy duty leather gloves, and proper dress are essential. Never operate the tool without the safety guard installed and properly oriented. Always hold the tool with two hands. Always operate the tool such that sparks are directed away from the user and combustable materials. Only use the tool such that tool motion is directed away from the user. When using indoors hearing protection is a must. Leave yourself plenty of workspace for safety and proper tool use. After setting up the tool I found it to be quite loud (this was expected) with quite a bit of rumbling that comes from the gearbox. I was using it outdoors so I didn't feel the need for hearing protection. The tool got warm in use but not excessively hot. Even though I was using two hands the body of the tool was thick enough that I had difficulty maintaining good grip on the tool itself and found most of my grip was focused on the handle. I found that when attached to the right side (I'm right handed) the handle tended to loosen up in use - you'll want to check it frequently and tighten as necessary. For a budget angle grinder I think this is a fantastic bargain. I would have liked a carry bag with it but at this price point that would be asking a lot. For a few dollars more other brands have one or two features that are missing from this unit but you can also find significantly more expensive grinders that aren't any better than this one.
