I originally bought this DEWALT angle grinder as a gift for my dad, who does a lot of DIY metal fabrication and repairs around his garage. His old corded grinder was on its last legs, and I wanted to get him something portable but just as capable. We've both been using it for a few weekend projects, and it is a massive upgrade.Performance & Everyday Use:The FlexVolt Advantage: This is the real reason to buy this specific model. If you use a standard 20V battery, it’s a solid, reliable grinder. But when you attach a 60V FlexVolt battery, the power jump is incredibly noticeable. We were cutting through thick steel plating and rusty bolts, and the motor never bogged down or struggled. It genuinely feels like a corded tool.Safety Features: As my dad gets older, tool safety is a bigger priority for me. The E-Clutch and Kickback Brake on this model are fantastic. If the cutting wheel pinches or binds up in the metal, the motor shuts down in a fraction of a second. It completely prevents the grinder from violently jerking out of your hands.Paddle Switch: The paddle switch is very comfortable for extended use, and it acts as an automatic dead-man switch—the moment you let go, the grinder stops.The Downsides:Battery Drain: Because this is a high-draw tool, it will chew through standard 2Ah or 4Ah 20V batteries very quickly if you are doing heavy grinding. You really need to own the larger FlexVolt batteries to get a reasonable runtime, which adds to the cost since this is a "tool only" purchase.Weight: With a heavy 60V battery attached to the back, the tool gets quite heavy.     • Excellent grinder, the instant shutoff makes all the difference
I use a portable grinder quite a bit for work, cutting down rebar and sheet metal. A grinder is a pretty simple tool, all it does is spin a cutting or grinding wheel, so it is difficult to see how it could be greatly improved upon. This tool greatly improves old grinder technology. Firstly, the power of this tool is excellent. As powerful or perhaps even more powerful than many corded grinders. The downside of that is of course that it chews through batteries at a pretty fast clip. A fully charged 2ah Dewalt battery will last a few minutes, and a 4ah will last about 8-10. I don't have any flexvolt batteries so I was unable to test out how they perform, but even without a flexvolt the power is more than adequate. But what really sets this tool apart from all the other grinders I have used is the safety shutoff feature. Fraying, cracking and shattering abrasive blades happens in an instant with a normal grinder when the blade gets bound up (which happens very easily on long straight cuts, cutting anything with tension from weight such as rebar). This tool instantly cuts power to the blade and it stops - faster than I can see it happen. This does two things - one, it saves stuff from flying off and hitting and possibly injuring you. That alone is worth the purchase. The second is that it SAVES the blade. When you cut with this tool, the blades last much longer because they don't fray, crack and shatter on a regular basis. Even though abrasive blades are relatively cheap, I can tell already this tool will pay for itself in the reduction or elimination of blades damaged by the tool.     • Great portable grinder.
A true dewalt tool, not a knockoff. Had plenty of power, but like all grinders its pretty quick on the battery. Light weight and well balanced makes it easy to use. It doesn't tey to rotate in your hands. The value is there for the way its built and its dependability.

Great used it for removing rust from a used Shipping container. Be sure to have multiple large batteries if you use this for an extended job.
