The XAG04Z is ideal for grinding, cutting and sanding a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit, and more. It's part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star protection Computer controls. Star protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over- discharging and overheating. Received this yesterday and used it today with a 6.0 generic Makita battery for around 2 hours, with numerous on and off cycles, and still had half battery left. Everything on this grinder is beast, and I'm extremely happy with it, but do not believe the statement on the listing which says that the wheel stops spinning after 2 seconds of releasing the trigger. I really don't care, and it was not an issue for me, but some others might find it important. The fact is that it takes anywhere between 4 to 6 seconds for it to stop spinning. The cutting disk caught me at one point, but that is because I am a little bit reckless with my operation of it. I love this purchase. ... show more

The grinder worked well right out of the box. Performance was superior as you would expect from Makita. The grinder accessories left behind when my old corded Craftsman grinder died fit just fine. I honestly am surprised by how hefty and heavy duty the built for this grinder is. I am recently trying to get into the XGT Makita tools but given how they are still very expensive (batteries especially), reluctantly went with this LXT version and it feels like a beast.

Ok, I've committed to the we Makita brand and I used this to grind an old light pole down to repaint, workid great. As expected, you burn through the batteries, but I had extras and 2 chargers going. They stood up to continuous usage. Then I did some grading of cement in a confinded space and there was a lot of dust. After a while when you would switch out the battery, you would have to work the switch a few times to get it to turn on. Could have been excess dust in the switch or in the brushes.
