This versatile machine both aerates your lawn while also removing thatch, debris, dead grass, and other unwanted organic matter. Our powerful 13-amp motor rotates up to 3300 times per minute, clearing a path up to 15 inches wide with each pass. The unwanted thatch is then collected into the included detachable collection bag. Choose between the 16-blade scarifying head and the 24 steel-tine dethatching head depending on the task at hand. The 5-position height adjustment features five depth settings: +1/4", -1/8", -1/4", -3/8", -1/2". I have thatched my yard every Spring for years using a commercial thatcher. This is the first time I have used a residential thatcher. This Wen thatcher set me back $135, each rental of the commercial thatcher runs me $55 not including the gas to run it. The results were identical! Both work very well. The commercial thatcher does not include a debris catcher, the Wen has one that sucks! Either way, you are going to be raking! The commercial thatcher is a bit easier to use because of its weight. It hold to the grass better. But that comes at a huge disadvantage, the weight makes it very hard to unload and load from car! For this reason, I am going to call this topic a draw. Having to manipulate the electric cord was a nuisance, but was not unmanageable. The time taken to thatch my modest sized lawn was a bit more for the Wen, but that does not include hour each way to go to the rental facility and pickup/deliver the thatcher. This is a huge win for the Wen! So, the ultimate win/lose will be how long it lasts. Clearly the thousand dollar commercial unit is designed to last for a decade or more of commercial use. It is a better unit in every way, but the Wen is so cheap that all it has to do is get three uses to make it win the comparison. Will it last that long? I am betting yes. But even using it only once a year, I would be shocked if it lasted 10 years. It is not well made, it is going to die. But until it does, I am very happy with it! ... show more

Well ... just wow! Love it. I've never owned - or even used - an electrict dethatcher before but I'm shocked at how well this machine works. I'll give you my only con first: I hate that it's corded. If you can figure out a pattern where you're not always tripping over your cord, it's great! On the plus side, it's light, simple easy to use, low noise and ... wait for it ... does the job! (I always like it when a product does what it claims.) I used the dethatcher first and filled up four yard waste bags. Then I did the scarifier. Holy Cow! I filled up 11 more bags plus a large can. I think if I lowered it and went back again, it might be even better - but by now I'm wiped out. I did this as a prelude to overseeing. Great machine. ... show more

Worth every penny! While I love maintaining my lawn, every spring I dread dethatching with the garden rake. It's exhausting and takes a long time. I bought this dethatcher and I was done in about 15 minutes, front and back yard. It's incredibly easy to use. The one thing I will say is that there isn't a guard against cement/sidewalk. You have to be careful really careful how you position it. The machine itself is a bit bulky, so you do have to get used to maneuvering it. And since I will probably only use it twice a year, I take it apart and put it back in the box. This way it doesn't take up too much room in my garage. Also, make sure to read the grid on the suggested settings. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and can't wait to use it in the late summer/early fall. ... show more

Took less than 30 minutes to set it up. Appears very nicely built. On my first trial, picked up so much thatch. Very easy to use. Just get a 100 feet cord. After the first use, I will recover the cost of hiring someone else to dethatch my lawn.

Worked great! Easy to assemble. Easy to change blades. Just get ready for a lot of raking. This thing kicks up so much dead grass it's amazing. By the way, the raking is much easier than if you were just to go out and take your lawn. When you rake after using the machine all the dead grass is just laying there on top of your lawn, you're not pulling it from the ground nor is it intertwined with the grass. I'm looking forward to a much improved lawn this year and this machine will be the reason. ... show more

Was a little disappointed when I first received of the condition the box was in but it was packed pretty good and no damage and all pieces where there. Only used it for a test so far due to the weather here but I can tell you this will do the job seems very durable and light weight which is nice and has plenty of power just make sure you use a 12 awg extension cord ... show more

Wow this little monster is effective. It was much faster than raking by hand. Maybe a bit too aggressive for my needs. However, after using, I planted fescue in the fall, The grass came up better than ever before. I have ST. Augustine in the front yard, and I can't use it there as It would rip up the rhizomes. I didn't use the catcher because it will quickly fill up. Good price too. ... show more
