  • Good basic bench but needs additional parts and work.....
Style Name: Weider Platinum Standard Weight Bench
Updated: 08-27-2022 For the price, this is a good bench for the basic home gym. Color is great; easy to assemble with a good illustrated instructions manual. HOWEVER, after assembly this bench was just too wobbly for me to use. (Too see what I'm talking about, someone posted a video showing the wobble; see the February 28, 2021 review with video). There was a feeling of unease as I exercised. The problem IS there's too much play or gaps between the bench frame (member #3) and the crossbar (member #2). The gaps are at the flange bolted connection between the two members. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TIGHTEN THE BOLTS, the bench will always wobble due to the existing gaps! So DON'T OVERTIGHTEN THE BOLTS YET or you will bend the frames and that's not good. *I was about to return it. BUT, other equipment made by other vendors have the same neg-reviews expressing flaws or something else. In addition, I would have to pay more. (During THESE TIMES, NO thanks!) After further research and price comparisons I came to the conclusion that 'I REALLY LIKE THIS BENCH'. One, for the paid PRICE and two, it suits my needs. NOT too bulky where it takes a lot of space. So, I decided to keep it. I solved the wobble issue by carefully hammering-in toilet plastic shims into gaps at both sides of the bolted flange connection (See photo). BOTH Sides! These wedge shims are made by EVERBILT and you can get them at your local Home Depot. I like these shims because I could install them then snap off the excess remainder. Some filing and cutting is necessary to make them clean and flush. After installing the shims I tighten the bolts a little more making the bench was a lot more sturdy and tight. That should will help me workout with confidence and no worries. I'll see how this works for now but later, I intend to install metal shims and that ought to do it for good. My barbell has an abrasive surface for gripping. Every time I set the bar to rest the surface from the barbell scraps up paint off the top of the weight rest (member #15). To solve this issue I installed EVERBILT 2-inch self adhesive anti-skid pads at the top of the weights rest (See photo). These rubber pads will eventual wear out but luckily EVERBILT sells them in a pack of 8 and I can always purchase them at my local Home Depot as well. I like the adjustable levels for the barbell rest. However these have a tendency to come off during bench exercises. This can be a safety issue! SO VERY IMPORTANT; make SURE to lock each weight rest (member#15) by attaching 1-inch spring clamps at the rear of each rest (See Photo). You will need two, one for each barbell rest and these are NOT included with this bench. I purchased the clamps here on Amazon (see photo). In Summary: I really like this bench so I made it work. There are issues with it. Again, suits my needs (price and fitness). BUT the bench needs some extra work. To further improve this bench, refer to the March 19th, 2022 review with heading "Decent for the price but a bit clunky". I intend to follow this person's solutions to fix the wobble at the leg extensions and hamstring curls. Hope this helps y-all out. ... show more

  • The pegs scare me!
Style Name: Weider Platinum Standard Weight Bench
So far, this bench has been working great, but the pegs move and I'm afraid they might fall out when I need them the most. They stick out too far and sometimes I hit them with the barbell, and I am as far away from the supports as possible. Also, the supports are at a weird width! As stated in other reviews, I have to spread my arms wider than normal to be able to pick up the barbell. I have a 6-foot wingspan, so I can imagine it would be very difficult for shorter people. ... show more

  • Sturdy Bench at an affordable price
Style Name: Weider Platinum Flat Bench
Bench is lightweight, yet very sturdy with no wobble when assembled. For the price, I didn't expect it to be as solid as it is. At 6'4" and 240 lbs this bench easy holds my weight. Very easy to move and store as well. Would definitely buy again.

  • Great Home Gym - Easy Assembly
Pros : - Price - Great instructions! A++. Probably the easiest to follow instructions I've come across in my life. - Very easy to assemble. 85% by one person. - Lots of options for exercise - Pretty sturdy for the price Cons : - The shroud that covers up the weights gets in the way of the weights. So as you lift, the weights will clang against the mid-section that holds the 2 pieces together. You can bow them out a bit for temporary relief, but it will eventually straighten back out and start hitting the weights again. I may just remove the shroud. - When using the lower cable with more than 2 weights for pullups, the entire machine can pull off the ground on the leg end. So if you have it close to a wall on the weight end, you could end up hitting the wall with it. Standing on the base will solve that issue, but it's not always comfortable or desired. Overall it's a great piece of workout equipment at a very good price. You're getting your monies worth here for sure if not more. ... show more

  • Decent for the price but a bit clunky
Style Name: Weider Platinum Series Utility Benc...
It’s a relatively inexpensive bench and does the job well but Weider could have made simple manufacturing changes that would significantly improve the quality and performance of this product. I read the negative reviews but decided to purchase it anyway since I figured I could correct these issues. As other wrote in their reviews, there is a 1/4 gap on either side of the hinge point of the leg extension which allows it to wobble when doing leg extensions or hamstrings. I solved it my purchasing a pack of 2 inch round nylon furniture sliders from the hardware store and making a hole in each the size of the hinge bolt (see picture). I’ve been using it for several months and the fix works great. The other issue is the bar hold the weights is only bolted into place. Full hamstring curls cause the weight bar to move back and forth in a teeter totter way. This can be solved by simply welding the bar where it meets the frame (see picture) instead of using a bolt. Many other bench manufacturers do that. It is a slight annoyance which I will fix with my welder at some point but most customers don’t have that option. And finally, the lift points for the feet and legs aren’t adjustable. If you have long legs or taller than 70 inches, you might find that it is a bit small. But in the end, I’m satisfied as it serves its purpose and I knew what I was buying. ... show more

  • A Nice Olympc Bench for A Home Gym.
Style Name: Weider Platinum Olympic Weight Benc...
This bench is better than a basic one, it seems well made and worth the extra money. The bench part that you lay on is made of thin plywood though. It's the only part that concerns me in the future, as far as durability.
