Received two pieces and they fit perfectly into the fish tanks -- one vertical, and the other horizontal. Watch out, though, since they leech tannin, and can make your water tea-colored. I think you need to soak them first before putting into the aquarium. ;)

The wood looks amazing but be aware that all wood leaches orange tanins into the water. You need to pre-soak or boil your wood. If like me you didn't know this and turned your water orange, you can use Seachem Purigen to soak up the tanins. 250 ML cleared up my 15 gallon tank in a day.

- The most important aspect of a review for this type of natural product is the photos, so take a look: I ordered TWO of these (separate orders) I'm fairly happy with the look of each, though I kind go like the first one more. That's to be expected since this is a natural product and each piece is going to look different. I ordered two of these to increase the odds of getting a great piece. - Mine were 14" and 16" respectively, so, true to the advertising promise. - The shapes and complex surface textures are fairly appealing but one of the pieces has several freshly-cut limbs (see photo #2) which makes it look less natural so not a great look in my book. Maybe these can be covered with moss or buried in sand. If your local fish store has these you might consider the possible benefit of paying 2x the price for the advantage of being able to pick out the best one. I don't mind that 1 of these may end up on the shelf, possibly to be used later or given away. Of course you may feel otherwise and that's the thing: there's room for subjectivity in these things since every aquarist is going for their own look. - I have ordered several of these before from various venders and some have come with instructions for multiple/prolonged boiling of the wood to leech out all the tannins that will turn your aquarium water brown. Some people like this look and apparently the fish don't mind. But most people don't like that murky look. My past experience suggests that a 1 week bucket soak and then 45 min of boiling on the stove will mostly solve this. There was still slight tannin leech but eventually went away with the usual water exchanges. - Recommended. Hope this helps ... show more

    • Beautiful driftwood- pros and cons

Pros: -really is beautiful. No boring chunks of wood. -Each piece slightly greater the size stated slightly so you get an amount equal to or greater than you paid for. -pieces are chosen to complement each other. -Most pieces can be placed in a variety of positions (right side up, upside down on its side) versus some that can only go in one or 2 sides these are more versatile. -lots of branch or root extensions to create hiding places and underwater worlds -Way way way cheaper than any pet store. -ship fast and packed safe -dirt cleaned off before shipping. Arrived clean without excess bark or rotten wood Cons: -Need to be boiled 2 or 3 times. I actually soaked the wood in a bucket and changed the water a few times, boiled once, put back to soak in bucket a couple days. I boiled one more time and that was probably a little excessive (Some tannins are good for your tank.) -you need to wait to put them in unless you want to boil 3 times (completely boil and then soak in bucket in between boiling every few hours. -Can’t choose any of the pieces. -may need to cut wood to make the shape you want Overall great pieces at a great price. I don't write reviews unless I am truly wow'd. This was my first time ever buying driftwood, and I was nervous. I researched lots of options at different price points, and this seemed to be thest best value. I was really worried especially because you're not seeing exactly what you're buying, but the pieces I got were amazing! The pieces were dynamic, large, and unique. I want to buy more just for the surprise of getting some really beautiful pieces! You will have to boil them, but it's easy! Grab the biggest pot you have, and if the pieces aren't fully submerged, don't worry...just take some extra time to flip them and let the other sides boil. One of mine sunk first boil because it was smaller and thinner, but the bigger piece is on it's third boil and it's semi-sinking. The tannins and color are beautiful. I thought boiling would be a tedious process, but it is quite fun! ... show more

The pieces were nice and different. I understand the having to boil, soak, and clean the driftwood. What I didn't appreciate was having to sand the ends and removing little splinters to avoid the fish getting scrapped. Too much work for the price. I have found my own driftwood in nature and the treatment was not very different ... show more

I thought I was taking a chance buying driftwood online. I'm very glad I did. I got three really nice pieces in excellent condition. No mold and very solid. All were a good size for my aquarium. I'm very happy with this purchase. Very reasonable price, too.

I was really impressed with the wood: I received well packaged and interesting shapes, two larger and one smaller. Like other reviewers noted, there are a LOT of tannins so be aware. I did 3 days of booking (regular water changes once the water was too dark to see thru), then about 2 weeks of soaking with water changes as needed. The two larger prices have been amazing in my tank with no issues, the smaller piece never was able to get saturated enough to sink so it floats in my large aquarium even now after a few months. The two larger pieces have been in my 30 gallon shrimp aquarium about 3 months now with no issues. The smaller piece floats in my 55 gallon aquarium, and still have enough tannins after 3 months of use to cause light water coloration after about 2 weeks (turns to the color of weak ice tea), but it's not unattractive and easily remedied with regular water changes. Doesn't bother the fish, and actually the floating log is a great addition for my top dwellers. All in all, a bit of work on the front end but we'll worth for the price and quality. ... show more
