Directions: It's better boil with soda. Recently I have seen a lot of customer feedback about red water problems. I went to do a tannin removal experiment, add soda and boil, boil for 15 minutes. Soak in hot water until the water is cool. Add new water and continue to boil, cycle 3-5 times. My experiment was repeated four times. Then continue to soak in water, change the water once a day, and remove tannins need for 4 days.

I order in two sizes and loved the pieces I got in each package. They are beautiful and very unique. You do have to have some creativity when it comes to arranging them. They are an amazing price in my opinion. The sizing is pretty accurate although you may get a talk piece or a relatively skinny piece with no branches jutting out. I soaked them to remove some of the tannins but I probably could have soaked longer, but I got impatient. They released some tannins, but it’s healthy for the type of fish I own. I ordered the mopani driftwood, 2-piece 10-14" option. They are beautiful!! I originally looked in local aquarium and pet stores so that I could select one that I liked and would work well in the set up, but the selections were disappointing and expensive. So this is my first time ever have an aquarium, let alone driftwood. I bought these two pieces, and they are beautiful, even though they are a bit smaller than I anticipated. I saw everyone saying in the reviews and the product listing to boil the heck out of this wood, and I did just that. I boiled water and dumped it in a small cooler I had since I didn’t have a pot or pan big enough to use to boil water with the wood. I did this roughly once every day or two for a little over three weeks and the water I was dumping out after letting it sit was STILL brown. I finally just said to heck with it and put them in my tank. Water has not turned color at all since adding, but I also have a Seachem Purigen packet in my filter so, that might be helping . They sank just fine thankfully, so no issues with floating up or having to anchor them with something. I’m like 90% sure this wood was sprayed with some sort of coloring or treatment because it just felt really chalky upon arrival. But regardless, it is nice wood. Just don’t buy if you plan on using it quickly because this requires so much time and patience. ... show more

These driftwood are SO cool. I love their funky shapes. What I don't love is that it took weeks for them to sink in my tank. They are still leeching tannins, which is fine because it's nontoxic and health promoting, but I've had them for months and am wondering when that ends? They also accumulate fuzzy stuff/algae very quickly, which has not happened with other driftwood/decor. That's fine too because I give them a good rinse every week. If they weren't so beautiful, I'd say it was a nuisance. ... show more

    • Driftwood floats!!!!!!!

Purchased WDEFUN Natural Driftwood for Aquarium Decor. The "driftwood" floats. Cannot anchor it to the bottom of the aquarium. Leaving it to soak in aquarium to see if it will absorb water. Is of zero use in an aquarium due to floating !!!!!!!!!!!! Have never written a comment on Amazon before after years of use, but this aquarium decor is of zero use. Follow-up comment: Was able to get it useful in aquarium by drilling hole in a slate rock using a concrete drill bit, putting a wood screw through the drill hole and screwing it into the bottom of the "driftwood" and covering the slate rock with the gravel from the bottom of the aquarium. Way too much trouble to stop it from floating to the top of the water. Did not boil the "driftwood" and it has not turned the water in the aquarium dark after 2 days. It was however soaked in a 5 gallon bucket outside in the sun for 3 days prior to putting it in the aquarium. The water in the bucket turned dark brown. Changed water in bucket 3 times. ... show more

I received nicely shaped big pieces of driftwood. They will look great in my 75 gallon planted tank once I get them prepped. I don't like tea colored water, so the prep takes days. That said, I followed the instructions. I boiled both pieces in a large soup pot four times, total of 8 plus hours, with fresh water for each boiling and let the driftwood sit in the pot afterwards. The water was the color of strong black coffee each time. I'm on phase two which is soaking the wood. I have them in a five gallon bucket because it is easier to dump and change the water rather than putting them in a 10 gallon tank. The wood was saturated after boiling, so there was no issue floating. I started soaking day 4 after boiling the wood. After about 8 hours, the water in the buckets has a brown tinge. After a day, it looks like weak tea and like strong tea day 3. I left it to see how long it would take to change the color of the water when it is not filtered. It's day 7 now and I'll see what this looks like after 24 hours. I think it will be soaked well enough to put in the tank as long as I put charcoal in the canister filter to remove the tannins. Very nice wood, but plan to prep and wait before landscaping the tank. ... show more

I’m so pleased with the looks of these pieces of driftwood. Was a little apprehensive as to what the pieces would actually look like but as you can see they’re interesting with lots of nooks to tuck plants and a cave like twist for a future pleco. These will look great in my 40 gallon breeder tank.
