  • Great product and color
Color: Ebony Size: 16 Ounce
I purchased the ebony and was happily surprised and opened the box to no spilled stain. They actually put metall tabbed lockers so it can't be spilled. The directions were easy and the first coat went on easy and looks beautiful as you can see in the picture. The pictures are on a light almost birch like butcher block I plan on doing one more coat since this product is build able. It can be very sheer to pretty much black and comes with buthcer block oil built in so that's a plus. ... show more

  • Butcher Block Sealer
Color: Hazelnut Size: 16 Ounce
Easy to apply and work with. Has done a great job thus far with new butcher block countertops

  • Just what I wanted from a stain
Color: Hazelnut Size: 16 Ounce
Very easy to apply and smooth into the wood. Follow the instructions and you'll have no problem. I did three coats on the longer countertop and used a rag to apply. I used one coat on the smaller countertop and used a paint brush to apply.

  • Easy to use.
Color: Hazelnut Size: 4 Pack
Safe for food preparation surfaces which was my #1 goal for this stain. Do a few test pieces, time the application to wipe off so you can replicate your stain job. For sealer, I used a food grade mineral oil. I don't recall if it was 3 or 4 coats of sealer. I will continue to reapply sealer as needed. A light, very light sanding between coats. ... show more

  • Meh-For Woodturning
Color: Ebony Size: 16 Ounce
I purchased this Watco oil-stain with a specific use in mind. I turn (i.e., woodturning) finials that to highlight their form are best if they are black to conceal wood color and grain. Woodturners often use Ebony or Black African wood for it's color and hardness to make finials. I have ethical issues with using exotic woods not to mention their cost. So, I use Rock/Sugar Maple which is creamy white in color. Ebonizing the finial gives it a close enough appearance as using an exotic wood. To ebonize the wood I have used leather dye (Fiebings) or Indigo ink (Speedball/Cat)-which works well with a topcoat of lacquer. I'm always looking for alternatives and I was looking for an alternative that is food safe since I was hoping to use it on bowls. This product appears to work well on Sugar maple but not another wood I was thinking of using-Osage Orange. Osage Orange is, according to Google, one of the hardest North American woods. So, it would be good for finials. I was experimenting with this oil-stain on Osage Orange and I'm guessing because of it's density the oil-stain sits on the surface and does not penetrate the wood. It therefore leaves a streaky appearance. It does work OK on Sugar maple. Indigo ink works fine on finials but I don't know if it is food safe so I wouldn't use it on salad bowls. My bottom line suggestion is -experiment with this product before you commit to using for your application. You might like it or maybe not. ... show more

  • Great stain
Color: Hazelnut Size: 16 Ounce
Tried this in pine, did 4 coats and if definitely darker than the picture I posted, will use it again in other wood surfaces, I can say is some what water resistant

  • Semi-transparent
Color: Hazelnut Size: 16 Ounce
Covered nicely in 1 coat. However if you want a true Walnut color, use soft wood, ie, pine or Poplar. I used on Ash and Oak and was very light in color.

  • Exactly What I Wanted
Color: Hazelnut Size: 16 Ounce
Home Depot didn't carry this so I had to order it on Amazon. I used this to turn a pine plank into four serving boards (Don't use pine for cutting boards!!) and the Watco stain and finish turned out GORGEOUS. It brought out the wood grain and finish wonderfully. I followed the instructions on the container carefully, sanding between each coating and letting it dry the appropriate amount of time. These were used at my brother's wedding and will go on to be Christmas gifts for our family from him and his new wife this year. I did use mineral oil to seal them after finishing the project. I don't remember if that's recommended or not for this product, but it was on some other boards I bought so I included that in my process. The picture is from before they were oiled. Just a very lovely finish. Highly recommended. ... show more
